I am writing this email specifically rating my order placed on their website. I am learning to sew and making cushion for a set of vintage outdoor Homecrest furniture. I love these chairs so much (very comfortable) that I decided to set them indoor. Unfortunately no website making custom cushion was offering indoor fabric options (only outdoor grade fabric) I decided to change the design of those traditional cushion and add buttons to my finished cushions. I went online to learn how to do it. in my search, I came across an explanative video done by Farm Fabrics on youtube. It was so easy to follow that when I decided to order the special needle and nylon cord to do it myself, I chose to order on their website. They are teaching me how to do it for free and giving me the confidence that I can do it, I felt it was only fair to pay the free teaching video by buying my materials on their on their website instead of Amazon. I am all in to give as much business to local store. I live in Las Vegas, NV and the store is located in OH, so not local to me, but yet a real independent brick and mortar store other than a big corporation. I place my order, the items are price fairly, same as Amazon, so I felt ok pay for shipping this time. I was doing the right thing and it reassured me to buy from an upholstery store, thinking that their stuff must be the good stuff. Fast forward delivery time, that is were everything became an issue. First know that you may not receive a follow up email besides the initial order confirmation. I didn't receive a tracking number so I couldn't follow my package progress, didn't know if it was shipped or when it would be delivered. Fine. I'll wait a reasonable amount of time and if nothing shows up I will reach out to them directly. When I didn't see my package arrived, I went on the website to find their info. That is when I realized I could have the info about my package on their website going at bottom of screen, in customer help and click on track my order. So I did and found out that my package had been supposedly delivered but alas not to me. I followed up with post office, and as everybody knows is not helpful with missing packages or mis-delivered etc... anyway I contacted Fabric Farms and they are not willing to resend the items I ordered for free. I understand that the post office issue is not their fault (nor if someone stole the package) but yet I am out of $33.15 If you are going to have a strong selling presence online, even stating "Locally owned, nationwide shipping" you should stand by your service. You would think they would like me to be happy with my purchase, quality of their products etc... I reached out to Fabric Farms to explain the whole thing and they didn't do anything about it. They clearly either don't believe me, or don't care. They received their money so the fact that I didn't receive my items is not their problem at all. it was only a small purchase, I am not local so maybe they think that I won't be a returning customer, or I am not the customer that will spend money on fabric etc... Wrong assumption. for the project I am doing right now I spend a lot of money on the fabric and the shipping from Knoll Textiles. I am not made of money, I just saw the cushions a long time investment so i wanted quality upholstery fabrics. I was already looking at fabrics on Fabric Farms for more upholstery work. I don't have choice where I am. i was also looking at their drapery supply etc... I won't re-order from them ever. The fact that they are not willing to show a new customer that they can make it right for $33.15, why would I want to spend hundreds of dollars with them. I can only imagine what would be their attitude when something is really wrong when fabric is lost, or damaged or any issues that could occur in an online business transaction. That is why I am back on Amazon to order my 10" needle and thread to finally set the buttons on my cushions. I won't recommend Fabric Farms and I will again direct anyone to shop on Amazon. we can not like their policies or monopoly but at least they do the right thing per their customers and replace lost, stollen, mis-delivered, missing packages. That is local stores are disappearing when E-commerce increases and the customer service doesn't follow. They made $33.15 (including the shipping) but they already lost so much more. read more

The worst! horrible job on my chair. Ask them to redo and when they did it was still an amateur job. Have had many items recovered over the years from other upholstery places and have never had such bad results. I paid $1800 for a chair/ottoman that I had to deliver to them and pick up twice. Amazing selection, probably the biggest I've seen, fantastic sales and support staff, and a very nice front of the house experience. The samples of their work were exemplary, and from what I saw I believe they may do very fine work. We were ready to order and get things moving, but the upholstery labor estimates we got for our project were over double other estimates, and then when you add fabric, it was more cost effective to just buy all new furniture. So I wish we had emailed the dimensions and gotten a labor estimate first before spending so much time back and forth on fabric choices, that ultimately resulted in negative progress. If you are looking to reupholster something, I highly recommend emailing a picture with all the dimensions and get a labor estimate first. read more

Needed fabric to make some pillows for my home office, so we thought I would try them because we like to support locally owned businesses, especially right now, and not order online from a larger store. Great selection of fabric, especially in the clearance section, dismal trim selection, but most importantly to me: a full 3/4 of the employees I saw were not wearing masks at any given moment. Not only that, but the guy at the upholstery counter was WHISTLING the entire (short) time I was there. For the love of everything, if you're not going to wear a mask, at least don't be continually blowing your air into the area. Lack of masks = lack of consideration for your customers. Full stop. Really disappointing and we won't be returning. read more

I worked with Bernie for weeks being patient for his response to a large outdoor cushion recovering project. He seemed eager with the project. After weeks of back and forth I was ready to proceed. I asked for a more formal estimate to hand over to my boss, just a one page estimate instead of multiple emails with figures in messages. After several days I received a message that he's not interested in completing the project with absolutely no reason as to why. I asked for the reason and still haven't heard back. Super disappointed and he backed out of a project that would have been several thousand dollars. read more

Avoid doing business. We ordered upholstery fabric, we were promised to get it in 7-10 days. We found the fabric on line for much less, but we wanted to support a local business. 17 days later we found out that it had not been ordered. Then we were then told it was shipped and would arrive soon. Two weeks after that it still had hot been ordered, another promise was made to resolve the issue. The following week... the fabric still had not yet been ordered! Luckily they refunded our money. 6 weeks in and we are looking for a new source for our fabric. read more

I remember back when Fabric Farms was conveninetly located off Riverside Drive near the Arby's in Upper Arlington. No more-- the "new" (I'm sure they've been relocated for at least 10 years) location is a little hard to find, even with a GPS. While I lament the loss in convenience, the new space is huge and very organized. I felt like I was able to peruse all of my options in the most efficient amount of time possible. I was looking for fabric to upholster a partial wall in my home (sort of a sound-absorbing wallpaper stand-in), and I found plenty of options within my price range. I have to say, though, that the *perfect* piece was not quite within my range... you'll find things here from $10 a yard (in the sale section in the back!) to over $100 per yard. With all the variety, if you can't find something you like here, it probably doesn't exist. This is definitely not a place to find regular sewing fabric or cotton. This is strictly decorator fabric. Think sofas and window treatments, not dresses and quilts. Service was helpful, once I found the right person. My mom and I were looking around for over an hour and I even flagged a woman down and asked her some questions. She seemed annoyed that I was talking to her, and was not very helpful-- simply answering my exact question with a yes or no instead of helping me solve the problem. If she was focused on another task, she should have hooked me up with someone else who would've been able to be more attentive. Finally, though, we got a little guidance. You can also take upholstry classes through Fabric Farms. I'd definitely want to invest in this future-- someday when I have a house to fill with furniture, perhaps. Not enough room in my itty bitty townhouse for any of my potential glorious upholstry creations (besides the wall) right now. read more

I wish I had thousands of dollars to spend on all of the amazing fabrics here--but don't worry, if you're like me and you're broke, you can still get great stuff at Fabric Farms. First, if you're looking for upholstery stuff--metal tack strips, cardboard tack strip, dacron, etc--this is the place to go. I got all of the odds and ends I needed to reupholster a chair at a really good price. They also have foam and other upholstery basics. They also have some pretty decently-priced fabric, but there's a LOT, and you have to sort through it all. Some of the stuff on rolls in the back seemed to be lower-priced than the samples toward the front of the store--but upholstery fabric isn't cheap anywhere you get it, so. If you're new to buying upholstery fabric, expect to spend upwards of $30 - $50 a yard for many fabrics. If you're making cushions, definitely hit this place up because you can get fabric samples for $1 - $5; these samples are big enough to be the face of a large cushion, and you can get some really nice samples. I got three great patterns that I'm going to make into cushions with some neutral (cheaper) fabric on the back. I also got really great service. The gentleman who helped me was really nice and pleasant, and very genuine. I will definitely be going back when I have projects to do. read more

I have been in the store several times over the last few years. I even took an upholstery class there when they were still offering them. Bernie and his staff have always been helpful, friendly, and full of useful information. The first time I went in years ago was to see if someone could repair attached cushions on my leather couch that had started to pull away. Bernie showed my how to fix it myself free of charge. They are my go to store for upholstery supplies. My only complaint is that they aren't closer to my house. read more

I called today to find out if they carried a particular fabric. A man named Bernie answered the phone and looked up the fabric and said they could order it. I was interested in buying a high fabric and plenty of it. I had gotten a lower quote from another business and so I asked if they could beat my quote. He said no ....and quickly hung up on me. I called back because I thought the line had dropped or he could not hear me on my cell phone. I believe in being polite...always... since I too deal the public on a daily basis. The third time I called back I told him that he had now hung up on me three times but I that I wanted to ask another unrelated question. He argued with me and said what is your question...what is your question, rudely and so I asked to speak with the manager. He said "I am the manager and now I am going to be rude and hang up". He did. I thought this was ...unbelievable...behavior. I am in complete shock that they would dare to treat anybody like this. I have only been into this store once many years ago...so this my first experience with them in years. I can't believe that anyone would be working for that business and behave like that. I wish I could get to the owner and see why they have someone working at their store like this. I am in complete shock but I can definitely say they will never have my business. I had high hopes when I requested Fabric Farms "free reupholstery estimate" by emailing a photo of my chaise, as per their website. Instead of taking 2 days to get back to me, they took 4 (all weekdays/business-days), which wasn't a problem in itself except their estimate didn't comment on my specific question - how the price would differ for me to use my own fabric instead of theirs. Other places I've worked with are somewhat cheaper if you bring your own fabric - but not here. The first estimate was $675; when I wrote back asking for another estimate with "customer-provided-fabric," the price went UP to $812, and with no explanation or even apology for not commenting on this in the first place. Clearly they have enough business and the other reviews here make it sound great, but it sounds like this is just not the place for someone like me who can't afford this kind of money and/or tries to save a few bucks by acquiring fabric on their own. read more
