Soda Fountain
Suraj S.

Pretty standard QT here. It can get really crowded during the day and there aren't too many pumps so you may be waiting. The parking and car flow is also a bit cramped so it's a bit anxiety-inducing to back out and navigate around. Once inside it wasn't the cleanest environment but I'll give 'em a pass since it was quite crowded. They weren't out of any soda at the fountain which is nice and I got my Coke Zero with a pump of vanilla and cherry syrup added. If you are a Coke Zero fan at all you should seriously try it. I also noticed the hot dogs and rollers were well stocked and ready to go. QT's Buffalo chicken rollers are fire. The check out was well staffed too so the line moved quickly.

Collard Greens and Cole Slaw among the best I ever ate! Same with the catfish - outstanding! Definitely a must try place. Mac N Cheese and Baked Beans were also on point. Service was easy. Ambiance was ok - ordered on a late rainy Sunday evening. Sum up - Gus Fried Chicken is excellent.

We shared some fried green tomatoes and I had 2 piece dark snack and a side of potato salad. My husband had a 2 piece dinner with beans and coleslaw. We also shared a slice of their chocolate brownie "pie". I loved that the tomatoes were crispy and delicious. I would have liked them even more if they'd been sliced thicker. The chicken had a nice spice, very flavorful and juicy. If you like a crunchy coating though, this may not be your place. It is fried but not sure it is battered. The beans tasted like Bush's or some other canned beans--tasty, but not special. The potato salad tasted homemade and my husband enjoyed the coleslaw. The pie was also good, and not overly sweet. We were impressed by the price, we had an appetizer, dessert, drinks, and we both ate for under $40 with a tip! We will go back and I would recommend it if you are looking for a laid back casual chicken dinner with a touch of heat.

Tay's makes one of the best burgers in KC. They promote the quality of ingredients they use, and I…read morethink it shows in the food they bring to the table. The things I like most about Tay's include: the fries, sriracha ketchup, a fun car for kids meals, and of course the burger with all of the available toppings to choose from. I ordered a single with fries. My wife and I decided that we'll probably share next time. We might even get the slider with fries. My son loved the car his burger was served in. The ladies working were so friendly and worked quickly through the long line to get orders placed. We didn't have any issues finding a table to sit. They have plenty of high chairs and booster seats for kids too.

So the food... that's why we really came here. So many people hyped Tay's Burger Shack up that I think it made me set my expectations really high. I tried the Single Cheeseburger with fries, I will say that I didn't find it very special. My least favorite part was the buns, they didn't seem like they were toasted at all. Just your typical old cheeseburger. The fries were not my favorite. It does make a cute date night and maybe late night snack.

We had some time to kill after dropping off our cat at the vet, so we thought we'd pop into Shake…read moreShack and grab lunch while we waited. The store wasn't busy at all, but was clean and pleasant enough. We started placing our order at the kiosk (no human order takers here, as far as I could tell) and, after ordering 2 burgers, 2 Shakes, and a side of of onion rings, plus a bottle of water, AND being solicited for a tip by the kiosk (who exactly is getting a tip here? The kiosk?), our total was $52. FIFTY-TWO DOLLARS. for 2 burgers, shakes, onion rings and water. These had better be the best damn burgers and onion rings I've ever had in my life at that price point. Here's the thing...the burgers were good. Just...good. Not outstanding, mind-blowing....just good. The shakes? Well, if you're going to make that the namesake of your business model, your shakes should be big and they should be amazing...but these were just middle-of-the-road, very very ordinary chocolate shakes. The onion rings were pretty good...a total of 6 onion rings, for $4.50. SIIX. Look, the food was fine, the service was fine, but the prices, especially in today's economy, were just over the top. If you don't mind blowing over $50 bucks for what amounts to slightly elevated fast food, then Shake Shack is probably ok for you....for me, it's just not worth the prices they charge. We enjoyed our first visit, but are unlikely to return as we didn't get what I'd consider a good value for our money. Had the total been $30, it probably would have gotten a higher rating and better review.

You're…read moregoing to get a pretty good burger, maybe messier than other places, but it's going to be full of flavor and topped how you want it. But the brand that expanded westward so quickly doesn't seem to maintain its same zing, at least not at this location. This is a smaller location, clearly designed for more of a pick-up/delivery service operation, and the service definitely represents that. All of the ordering is done via kiosk, which is fine, but it embodies the impersonal nature of casual dining these days. The robotic nature of self-service seems to only lend to the blasé nature of the people that are working. They aren't rude by any means; they're just seemingly disinterested in actual service. Order, find a table, wait a few, and your food is brought to you. Lather, rinse, repeat. It's still a really good burger and there are lots of options. Shake Shack even gives you options for a mushroom burger, where the patty is replaced by a portobello mushroom. Maybe my burger wasn't perfect this time, and the "Parmesan Garlic Fries" were just fries dusted with powdered parmesan, so this visit wasn't exactly knocking my socks off. It was more a representation of the service than the brand. So if you're getting it to go, then you're probably in good shape. If you're getting it to stay put, then don't expect much.

An oldie but a goodie!…read more How can this place keep turning out great burgers, amazing hotdogs, delicious chili, and crispy fries? Took a step back to the old diner days and sat at the counter with my friend while we had a quick bite for lunch. The whole place is decorated to be a fun burger diner! Somewhere between the old 50s diner and the tasty freeze burger stand! We were waited on immediately, and not only did the person cooking hand us our food... but he handed over his catsup and mustard to liven up our burgers before he took them back and began working on a to-go order! What a fantastic little place to pop in and visit old KC. It likely helped that we had just come from the Berlin Wall exhibit, so we had a lot of OLD KC on the brain!
