Despite the fact that the table was packaged as if it were glass, complete with a custom made wooden crate inside of the cardboard box, the table arrived nearly destroyed with one whole side and two legs completely torn off the rest of the desk. This stroke of bad luck changed immediately. Larry was prompt to reply to my online inquiry and showed up the same evening to fix the table. Larry fixed the table to like new condition. You cannot tell it was nearly destroyed unless you turn it upside down to notice a very slight imperfection. Best of all, Larry communicates with you. If he's running behind for any reason he's prompt to call or text. He is also punctual. And reliable. Communication, reliability, and punctuality are very important to me. Larry hits the mark on everything. Very friendly also, after some brief banter I found out he had fixed a door jamb that someone kicked in earlier in the day, and after he fixed my table he was going to replace an exterior drain pipe with tree roots inside of it. But when we needed to change out an old bathroom vanity for a new one, we knew we had to get serious about it. And if you hire a plumber to do the work, which DOES involve some plumbing, then it costs way more. I resigned myself to the search and literally just contacted the most popular handyman service in my town based on Yelp reviews. Guess what? thank goodness I did! 805's Handyman (NOT to be confused with "805 Handyman") responded right away--even though it was a Sunday and the World Cup games were on. I uploaded pics, sent in the details, got an estimate, and made an appointment. On the day of, a nice truck drove up with the logo painted proudly on the side (not a guy in a fancy sports car, like handyman #9). Two sturdy guys came in and got down to business right away--no fuss, all smiles, and dare I say it? Like they loved what they do. (Unlike handyman #7 who was a former engineer and complained the whole time, even refusing to do some tasks!) Long story shorter, the bathroom vanity switcheroo turned out to be bigger and messier project than expected. It ended up involving some retiling, grouting, electrical adjustments, alterations to trim, painting--and the plumbing bits and installation and removal. The workers were quiet, helpful, communicated the whole time and were just generally old-school excellent (unlike handyman #4, who was nice, but got everything crooked and a bit wonky, bless his heart). The 805's Handyman workers did ALL the plumbing/installing/electrical/tile work/painting--the whole shebang. And the end result is a sweet transformation for our upstairs bath (I also asked them to take care of a few more items on my to-do list, which they did quickly and again, with smiles). The whole thing was very gratifying. So much so, that the next time something in our house needs fixing, I will actually look forward to hiring 805's Handyman again. We're lucky to have them in the Ventura area and they are popular on Yelp for very good reasons.

The entry door, he locked after I clearly told him, I do not lock my door (I was only in the HOA patio for less than an hour): His response was: "You didn't say that you don't take the key"... Having no phone (it was in the house) I broke the window; His suggestion that replacing the door would be cheaper than replacing the glass.... I should have just paid the $425 to replace all of the glass, that way I'd still have a door that fits, instead of this new unfinished door. The old door has been discarded, so there is no going back. The door is level, but it is still wonky at the top left, the right side overhangs the jamb on the inside, & the door & top lock sticks... It still needs sanding/painting & the privacy window film put on. I haven't heard from him, and I'm not going to call: I have a few other jobs, but hey... I'm tired. I'm heartsick about this and every time I look at this door, I just want to cry.... UPDATE: The flaming door.... Fred offered to pay for the door, as being locked out was the cause of my breaking the window, but I declined. Instead he said he'd install & paint the door at no cost. Fred insisted that the door I wanted was only $300 at H.D. The door he showed me was not available at the local H.D. (but a $628 door was) which he didn't accept, Fred then showed me a screen shot of the particular $328 door, which was listed only at Burbank. So I ordered the door from Burbank. Burbank H.D. REFUSED to deliver the door to me or send it to their Oxnard store (even after Oxnard staff called & requested the door be sent to them) as they are not in the same area. Which was why Fred went to pick it up.... Fred didn't show up the next day as he stated in his comments to right the door..... and I haven't called, because at this point I'm tired too and don't want to deal with anymore of the stress & angst that this has caused me.

We received the estimate on Saturday, August 15th and stated we would like to move forward with the project. On that same day, we were informed they were not available until October. I replied with requesting October 7th. We were told to make sure we have the wood flooring in the room for two weeks to cure. We went to storage and loaded all of the wood up to the room. On Monday the 17th, I e-mailed them stating we did not hear back. They wrote back on Tuesday the 18th, "I apologize we usually don't send emails out on the weekend. Thank you for understanding. I would need to double check, I don't have my calendar on me. I will get back to you by the end of the day and confirm on that date." Did not hear back at the end of the day. The next day I received an e-mail apologizing, that she was not feeling well and had an ER visit. She offered a date and we exchanged e-mails regarding how long the project will take. I requested a morning start since it might go into the next day and then I received the following e-mail: "I'm sorry, but after giving it some thought, we've decided that we don't be able to move forward with the project. I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience, and I appreciate your understanding." So now we have wood planks sitting upstairs in our room with no installer. I'm disappointed. They seemed like a nice, young couple. I really wanted to give them the work since they are a small, local business. Maybe they got a bigger job or just changed their mind. Regardless, I hope they think about how they do business with people in the future. We are in our 60s and it was a lot to haul everything from storage and up the stairs. I did not think they would just change their mind and cancel the project.
