Turns out we are both from Long Beach and lived in San Diego and now love super close to one another, small world. Would highly recommend this place! You just drive up and inside the little building, pay and can either sit in your car until the very end or wait outside your car the whole time. They take your info, scan your vin, plug some thing in your car and print you out a smog check result. Couldn't have been easier!

Both vehicles had the check engine light on at the time. Before even scanning the cars, the technician looked at my dashboard, clearly saw the warning light, and still proceeded to run the emission test. As most people know, if the check engine light is on, the vehicle will not pass emissions. What frustrated me is that, as a professional in the industry, he should have advised me to repair the issue first and return after the light was off. Instead, he completed the test on two cars he already knew would fail, and charged me for both. Later, I returned with the check engine light off and asked if I would pass now. His response was, "Hold on, I'm eating," which came across as dismissive and unprofessional. When I then asked why I was charged the first time if he knew I wouldn't pass, the conversation escalated. He became very rude, told me to "go somewhere else," and essentially asked me to leave. Customer service matters--especially for a business like this where honesty and guidance should come first. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this location.

I mean, I understand how bureaucracy and oversight can cripple efficiency, but there can't be a better source of dependable revenue than the regulation and licensure of motor vehicles. The fact that I've endured so many customer service nightmares at our local MVD locations, and now rely strictly on private competition (MVD Now), is downright sad. You'd think the state could get more involved in emissions testing, as well, but with backyard operations like A 2 Z, it's hard to believe they could ever compete. This business, accessible only via Montaño eastbound between 2nd and Edith, claims a test will take 10 minutes or less. In my case, it took about three minutes (there wasn't a line out the door, however, and I do drive a Prius, so y'know, you could pretty much drink the exhaust). If you pay cash it's $17, an extra dollar charge for credit. The guy was friendly and obviously super efficient, and paperwork was a breeze. I didn't ask about detailing, but it looks like this obviously homegrown operation is doing an excellent job competing with the bureaucrats.

It was so efficient and I felt very happy with my decision to get this thing done last minute and the time well spent there. I loved that I didn't have to book anything ahead of time. The price for emission testing was super affordable ($15 all-in with Yelp check-in discount, $15.95+tax if you aren't checked in on Yelp...so still very affordable anyways!). Why was this important. I went to 2 oil change locations (Jiffy Lube, review next) and BOTH LIED TO ME. OH, yeah $64.99. I pulled up and they see the car (my parents Cadillac, I'm here helping) and it went to $109 and $119 each! I asked for the manager at each place, "That car needs special oil." BS!!! I looked it up online 5W-30. There is NOT a special oil that costs double. I left both places, and they seemed shocked. This place...yeah, it's normal oil. We have it come in! It was smooth and fairly quick (not their specialty). Manager was very cool. When he say the handicap sign, he asked about it. I told him it was my parents that I was helping. Myra did the test and it failed. :( She troubleshooted with me what the problem could've been that caused the fail. She recommended how to correct the problem. The emissions was $25 and she stated that I could get it re-tested for free at another location. I TOLD HER NO, THAT I WOULD BE BACK TO SUPPORT THEIR BUSINESS. It was NOT their fault for the "fail". A few days later (today Oct 10, 2024) I followed her instructions before taking the Santa Fe back for a re-test. It PASSED! I recommend to support our "local businesses".
