I had one of the worst patient safety experiences of my life at the Quest Diagnostics location on Whittier Painter Avenue. I went in for a simple blood draw on Saturday, November 22, 2025, and the phlebotomist who worked on me was wearing long designer acrylic nails. This is a direct violation of CDC infection control guidelines that prohibit artificial nails for clinical staff due to the very real contamination risks. It also violates OSHA standards that require employers to provide safe conditions for patients. Her acrylic nails interfered with the procedure and she missed my vein. She caused significant pain and did not acknowledge it, did not apologize, and did not show even basic empathy. Hours afterward the site of the attempted draw was still painful and stinging, which is not normal for a proper venipuncture. The whole interaction felt careless, unprofessional, and unsafe. I left the site shaken and seriously questioning whether Quest has any real oversight at this location. If this is happening openly in front of patients, I do not want to imagine what is happening behind the scenes. I emailed Quest Diagnostics a detailed, formal complaint. I included the appointment code, the location, and the exact issues, along with the specific CDC and OSHA standards that were violated. It has been days and I have received no response at all. No acknowledgment. No follow up. Nothing. Their silence makes the situation even worse. When a company that handles medical samples and patient health information ignores a safety complaint of this seriousness, it tells you everything about their internal culture and priorities. I will now be escalating this beyond Quest directly. I will be filing complaints with the following agencies: * California Department of Public Health * Clinical Laboratory Field Services * OSHA No patient should have to experience this, and no one should be exposed to unsafe practices because a location chooses to ignore basic clinical standards. I would strongly advise looking elsewhere for your lab work until Quest proves that they take safety and accountability seriously. read more

I refused to go back to this place from their technicians not being able to draw my blood without hurting my arm leaving me bruised up. next thing I know I'm getting a bill for over $700 just for labs. be careful with these people this can happen to you. read more

Went at 6:30am as a walk in and never got called I left at 8:15am due to another doctor appointment If you plan to go here don't go in as a walk in they are fully booked with appointments and inconsiderate with walk ins they don't take time for walk. Went to this location for the first time and they were fast. I made an appointment the day before. I waited maybe 10/15 minutes and was called in. Phlebotomist was nice and friendly to my son ( who was the one having blood drawn) I was very happy with the service. I will definitely be bringing my son back when he needs blood drawn. Customer service, attitude and needed information. In order to be prepared when going to this place there should be some kind of information on picking up and dropping off test kits. Instead I received bad attitude when asked what I needed to do. And some of the people there don't know how to find viens instead of poking your arm all over then wanting to go to the other arm. Phlebotomist David truly deserves a recognition! I am trying to figure out how to recognize him through the Quest Diagnostics system. If anyone knows how to recognize an employee online, please let me know. David made an effort to make conversation with me as he knew I was anxious. He was reassuring. I am a hard poke with rolling veins and he got in on the first try. He only put the needle in once he was sure he can draw blood from that vein. I asked which needle was used and if my vein was deep in order to help my next phlebotomist in the future. He was more than happy to answer that. I wasn't feel rushed even if my appointment was on a Saturday. I truly appreciate his skills, especially how patient-centered he was. Scheduling: I booked an appointment online week before, arrived 10 minutes early as instructed, and checked in through my phone ( you can only do it 10 minutes exactly before your appt, not earlier ) and in the kiosk to scan my id's ( bring driver's license and insurance card ). No wait time at all if you follow their scheduling protocols. No idea about walk in though. Ample amount of parking. Quest is on the 3rd floor. They share space with other clinics and an Urgent care. read more

Terrible location, I waited 2.5 hours to get my blood drawn just to be told 10 minutes before their posted closing time that I'd have to go somewhere else because they were closing. The staff are not the friendliest, but this could be because of how short staffed and overworked they are. There were 20+ people on the walk-in list, 19 appointments for the upcoming hour and only 2 people being served at a time. There were not enough chairs or space in the waiting room to accommodate the number of people trying to get their services, most of which were elderly and needed somewhere to sit for the extremely long wait. Appointment was quick and easy, no issues. The person who helped me was kind and efficient. Now, for those who like the details before going to unfamiliar places... *I got an email the day of my appointment with a QR code that I'd use to check in with when I got there. *There is no fee or tickets for parking. The lot can be a little tight (most of the close spaces in the middle of the main parking area are reserved for physicians). But there are plenty of extra spaces if you go toward the very back to the left. (I went around 9:30am on a Monday). *Took the elevator to the 3rd floor. Suite 301. *There is no window/desk or person to check in with. You'll check in at the kiosk. I scanned my QR code (if that doesn't work, your phone number will). It asked me to place my id face up, then face down, in a little tray on the bottom right side of the kiosk while it took a picture of each side. And then again with my insurance card. *You can select to wait in the waiting room or be contacted if you want to wait outside. I stayed in the waiting room and was able to see the number of people currently being served and where I was at in line on a big Tv. The waiting room was big and clean. Plenty of seating available when i was there. *I was called back right at my appointment time and gave them my paperwork with the orders in the back at the beginning of the appointment. Don't got unless you have an appt. Walk-in's have to wait a super long time in the morning. Over an hour wait. They take people that have appts earlier than their appt so the walk-in's have to wait extra long. The other quest locations I have gone in for walk in and it is much faster and efficient. Horrible location and customer service!!! The Whittier blvd location is much better not as crowded and much cleaner - this place has an average of over one hour and a half wait with appointments or walk in. The employees are standoffish with patients asking when they're turn is and just incredibly rude so disappointing. When we came in one of them was fighting with a patient. I only came here for my grandmother because it was closer and she has been fasting all day but after waiting over two hours we left and literally got seen at the other Quest in a matter of minutes. read more

This place needs medical hygiene education. How can a lab not provide a mask and sanitizer to the pts. That screen is being touched by people during the whole shift. No one came out for disinfecting. I didn't have an appointment, but I did get there early since I had to fast for 12 long hours! The people there were so helpful with me. I had to check in and go downstairs to wait because they have an eight people maximum in the waiting room. At 7:45 am. There was only a 30 minute wait. I did not have my paperwork since my doctor sent it over electronically. When they called my mobile phone to tell me to come up, I was seen right away. They did what they needed to do quickly and more importantly, painlessly. If you go without an appointment, I suggest wake up early. read more

I had an appointment and I showed up early and they took me in early. There was other ppl waiting and I was pleased with that. The lady who took my blood was pleasant and proficient. BUT.... When I had to use the bathroom for urinalysis. The bathroom was DISGUSTING there was piss all over the floor. Little pieces of wet toilet paper all over the floor. One little shelf to put urinalysis sample on and of course piss all over it. The soap dispenser on the sink had one HUGE PUBIC HAIR on the dispenser, right on the part to push for soap to come out!!! Like Really??? Wat??!!! They need to implement a bathroom clean duty sheet or something!!! I literally felt dirty for having to use that bathroom. I shud have said something because why ask ur patients to use masks if we are gonna catch a disease literally for having to use that bathroom. read more

Go to the other Whittier location. This location is just awful. The parking lot is insane and the elevator was broken (Quest is on the third floor). The woman who was going to take my blood was in an awful mood, her scowl clear as she grabber four empty tubes to fill with blood. My work up included a standard urine test and and she would not let me use the restroom, she said she had to take the blood first. That's how it's done. I get everyone has bad days, but I don't want the woman who is about to insert a needle into my arm to do it in a huff. Never again. read more

Person taking my paperwork and insurance, very lovely. Apologetic that the building was a sauna. No ac, no ventilation. Got to my phlebotomy chair and I see dried blood where you put your arm. I asked phlebotomist to clean it please and she did, then proceeded to say, that's not blood. I'm a nurse, I know what dried blood looks like. Please clean your work station after every patient. I came here for some fasting blood work on a Monday morning, which is the only morning I had available. I didn't have an appointment and when I came at 6:15 there was a line in the hallway (they open at 5:30). A nurse started at the front of the line taking phone numbers and handing out pagers so that we could go downstairs and wait, which I think is the most practical way to handle the situation. I waited my car for 20 or so minutes and got a page, came up stairs and showed them my paperwork and 10 minutes later was called in. This is the BEST quest office I have ever been to! They are super helpful and nice! Very patient with little ones. Jackie helped us and took care of my uncontrollable child like if he were her own. Very personable. There is no receptionist to greet you but everything is on the tablets now. Even as a "walk in" you won't be here longer than 45 minutes. The only suggestion I would have is adding more hand sanitizer stations. David took care of us when we dropped off a sample and he was super quick. Truly I will never go to another site. read more

Horrible experience. I came in to just drop off a specimen my doctor requested and there's about 40 people waiting in this jam packed room with no air. There's 2 kiosk and people trying to check in online with no employees in site. I walked to the back to let them know I was just dropping off and had my completed form attached and they rudely told me to check in and wait. I arrived at the lab at 5:30AM for an appointment at 5:40AM. I arrived at the lab just as the doors were being opened for the day. I went in and checked in at the kiosk by 5:35AM. There were a handful of people that had arrive prior to me; several persons were in line behind me when I completed the check in process. I sat down at 5:35AM and patiently waited to be called by the staff. My appointment time came and went; the lobby was cleared of those who arrived about the same time as me, including those that were in line behind me. Then, they started taking people who arrived quite a while after I did. They started to take the fourth person who arrived well after me; I interjected and asked the staff member why they were taking people were front of me that had just arrived They said they would look into. Yet, they called two others in front of me - I interjected both times explaining my dilemma; It was 15 Minutes now past my scheduled appointment. Finally, a technician called my name; only 18 minutes past my appointment and a dozen people going ahead of me that signed in after me. Why did I even bother have an appointment? I have other options for lab care - I certainly do not require Quest Diagnostics for my lab needs. I am very disappointed with my recent visit and find the circumstances to be absolutely not acceptable. I will seriously consider my choice of labs in the future and have no intention to utilize the lab on Painter Ave in Whittier, Ca. Made an appointment at 2 for my daughter and barely had to wait. The staff was very friendly and were very patient with some of the patients that needed help signing in. When drawing blood from my daughter they were very supportive and calm through the process and helped to guide me to make the process as quick as needed. If there's anything to complain about, the parking does seem a bit cramped, but I was able to find a spot. read more

Well let's start by saying I showed up at 6AM . I put my information into the iPad in the front and my appointment did not show up. The lady at the front desk said my appointment was for tomorrow instead of today. I asked her if I could have my labs drawn today since there was no one in the lobby. She kept repeating that they have appointments scheduled for today and I could not be fit in. Very disappointing when there was literally no one in the lobby. I mentioned to her that there were no customers in the lobby and could she take me as a walk-in. She kept insisting that I had to keep my appointment for tomorrow and I she could not take me today because they were too busy. I reiterated again there is no one in your office today. Can you take me as a walk-in she finally relented and took me as a walk in. Worst customer service ever!!! The lady checking patients in was very rude. I usually don't complain because I work in customer service so I know how it is, but her attitude really was bad. I understand that you need to wait if you don't have an appointment but after waiting patiently for over 3 hours, and being the 2nd in line, to be told that they cannot see you because it's getting close to closing (they still had 20 more minutes) was not right.
