Went here for my sisters bachelorette party. After sitting down, the waiter (Malcom) insisted we order multiple truffle fries stating "girls love truffle fries" and continued to add things to our order without consent to increase our bill. After waiting over an hour for our food, we asked where it was and Malcolm responded "you didn't remind me" In turn we reminded him that is his job as a waiter. He came over to us and told us the kitchen messed up our order and offered us shots. We took the shots thinking they were on the house because the food never came and he offered them to us. When we got our bill he charged us $156 for the shots. I went to the manager to describe the situation and stated they were offered to us, we did not order them. She then accused me of lying and took me outside of the restaurant like a child and said "your story does not match up with was Malcolm is saying." It took about another hour for them to figure out how to remove the shots from the bill. All while this is happening, Malcolm is talking very negatively about our group in the corner of the restaurant. After leaving, we also heard the manager and other wait staff talking badly about us as well. Malcolm and the entire wait staff need a training on customer service and respect and should probably remove themselves from the restaurant business to avoid this happening again. read more

A group of us went here for dinner during NWF 2022 when the restaurant was especially busy. The service and food were both top notch. Our server, Casey, was personable and attentive. All of the food from the mussels (a must have) through dessert was delicious. read more

Big disappointment. Stopped by for lunch. Wanted chowder and a yummy salad. The chowder had decent flavor but it was barely warm. The beet salad was small with pale sickly looking beets with a mush of some orange goop underneath. The arugula sat on top, the only decent item on the salad. That disaster cost $28!! read more

We went here the other night for a nice dinner to celebrate our anniversary. Sadly, it was the least magical dinner we could have possibly have had on the island. I made a reservation so we could sit inside. We arrived a few minutes early and stood in the doorway for a few minutes before we were even acknowledged. The person who ended up greeting us was obviously an overworked senior waiter -- tall, wearing glasses and an earring. He asked our name, and then stared at his book for 2 full awkward minutes to determine we did indeed have a reservation. No, "Welcome to Queegueg's" or "Hey, good to see you tonight." He basically could not have made us feel more unwelcome. After standing there awkwardly for a few more minutes while he went over to the waiter's station to confer with another waiter, he came back and offered us a table. As though it were a gift. Um, thanks. We sat down. Then we waited some more. Another few minutes passed before the waiter came back with menus. Why he didn't have them when he was seating us is beyond me, but again, an awkward wait. We look at our menus over the next 5 minutes, found some entrees and drinks we liked, and waited again. If you're seeing a common theme here, yes, it's the poor service. And the waiting. About 5 or 10 minutes later, the same waiter comes back to us and asks if we would like some drinks? Sure, we put in a drink order for two glasses of wine. They were delivered a little more quickly, and then he took our order. The food itself was delicious. My wife got the braised short ribs, which were delicious. I had the striped bass which was a little overcooked, but otherwise also delicious. I wouldn't call what it was served with a "lobster and fingerling hash", but it was still a nice complement to the bass. (The mushrooms were virtually non-existent., but that was okay by me.) After our dishes were served -- plopped down on our table without a word -- the waiter -- who also never introduced himself by name -- never came back to check on them. Not a word. No salt on the table, either, so if you wanted salt, you were SOL. The next time our waiter deigned to give us his attention, it was at the end of our meal. Given his rude service throughout, we had no desire to continue our night at Queequeg for dessert. Which was just fine by him, because he had no desire to wait on us either. All would have been forgiven if he had ever bothered to say, "Oh sorry, we're short-staffed tonight," or "Oh sorry, it's just been a real busy night for me." But none of this. No explanation -- just poor service. What a disappointment this special evening was for us. With only a few meals to enjoy on the island while here in Nantucket, we unfortunately chose one of them to spend here. It was a mistake we won't make again. read more

We sat down at the bar for lunch. The bartender was directly in front of us pouring numerous shots from a bottle. Everyone sitting there was handed a plastic cup, "cheers!"... Everyone except for us. Feeling very welcome we settled in and took a look at the menu. After ordering the oyster po'boy and Bahn Mi sandwich, a group of women came to sit at the bar. Without being asked we politely moved our seats to the right giving them an extra chair. I guess they must have mistaken us for blind, non-english speaking restaurant guests because not one of them bothered to smile or say thank you. Let me state for the record that this is not at all the fault of the restaurant, simply an anecdote to provide a sense of the abundant atmosphere. The food arrived... To the bartender's credit he'd warned me that the Bahn mi was rich. He was right. Too many flavors happening at once. I should have heeded his warning. The oyster po'boy on the other hand carried no warning and tasted much the same way low tide smells at lynn beach. The saving grace of this sandwich (although not what I normally look for) was the high volume of mayonnaise... Or rather the much needed spoon full of sugar that enabled me to choke down this $15 beauty. We paid our bill and optimistically headed on our way for a second attempt at lunch. If you're in Nantucket looking for good food and a casual crowd, look no further than anywhere else. read more

This is a tasty option when traveling with children. They have a good menu and a very good children's menu. The restaurant is a bit dark, which is unusual for a Nantucket restaurant. We had: Heirloom tomato salad - It came with a small piece of burrata. Very good, but not enough burrata. Skillet roasted mussels - This dish was very tasty but not what it was described as on the menu. I expected shelled mussels in a sauce. This was typical Belgium styled mussels. Tuna Napoleon - The tuna was good, the wantons were bland. Red Wine Braised Short Ribs - on both the kids and adult menu - nice! They very good. Chicken Fingers - my daughter liked them Truffle fries - Good but a bit confusing. They served them with my daughters chicken fingers (chicken lying on top of the fries). I ordered them as an additional side. When they didn't come, I asked the waiter where they were. He said they are with the chicken fingers. First of all, so a child's order of chicken fingers comes with truffle fries? I don't know many kids other than my oldest daughter who like truffle fries. They are not a kid friendly item. Secondly, if I didn't order a side of truffle fries, does that mean the chicken fingers doesn't come with fries? Highly unusual. Anyhow, I got my side of truffle fries, separate from my daughters fries. they were very good. We opted not to have dessert here as we were not blown away by the 2 options. We ate here over the weekend (mid-April). We stopped by during the afternoon to make a reservation for about 7:30pm. They told us that there was going to be a wedding party earlier that evening but that it should be no problem to seat us by 7:45 or 8pm. So we took an 8pm reservation. Well the wedding party was still there and there was no table ready for us at 8pm. The waitress said we could wait at the bar. We waited 40 minutes for our table. No one seemed that apologetic about it. If it were me, I would have compt'ed the two drinks we had at the bar. Didn't happen, though. Overall the food was a bit overpriced. $10 for a lobster bisque soup that was just basically bisque and no lobster. It was pretty sorry soup. My main meal was the tenderloin special.. that was pretty good. My husband had the chicken. Dessert was ok. Nothing special. It is very cozy atmosphere but that didn't make up for the kinda lame customer service and the ok food. read more

3.5 stars. The service was very friendly and fairly efficient. The food was good, though the portions were small (for the price). Scallops were nicely seared and delicious. The veal bolognese pasta was good, though the sauce could have used a little bit of a kick. Entrees come with the main dish only and side dishes cost extra. Cocktails are pricey ($13 for a martini?!). Queequeg's doesn't have an appropriate coat rack to hang coats on. They hung our coats on hooks that were fairly low to the ground and the bottom of our coats were sitting on the floor. :=/ read more

Out second visit for dinner here, and we will keep coming back. We arrived a bit early, and sat down at the bar (probably ~10-12 seats at the bar, full dinner service). Verify friendly bar tender, great drinks, a good start. Seated outside on a beautiful night, we ordered a ton of food and every was amazing. The heirloom tomato salad was great, the braised beef short ribs were just melt-in-your-mouth right (great sour cream mashed btw), clams fra diavlo hit the spot, and the ny strip on the pomodoro risotto was just what I hoping for. If you are seated late, be ready for a very limited dessert selection as the good stuff runs out. We got a tart which was ok I suppose, and a raspberry slushy thing which was embarrassing (think rishies iced slush). Still, overall the dinner was amazing and like I said, we will be coming back for sure. Just fix the desserts =) read more

If half stars could be awarded I think I would give Queequeg's 3.5 stars, but alas they will instead get only 3. Went for the 'early bird' special where you get either an app and entree or an entree and dessert for $25 (before 6:30pm) which for Nantucket is a great deal. We ordered a bottle of wine for $30 but it was not too impressive - even less impressive was the offensive way in which the bottle was poured. No, not poured, dumped out of the bottle in our glasses; in fact, the waitress emptied the entire bottle into our 4 glasses. Moving past the wine situation.... The bread was decent but nothing special. I started with the tuna tartar. Very fresh fish, but the flavor wasn't fantastic, though I did like the wasabi sauce on top. My table also had the muscles (tasty, but again nothing special) and the corn bisque (which was apparently creamy and lovely). Onto the entrees. My mom and I shared 2 dishes: the Surf and Turf (which was a $4 surcharge which I found silly as the pieces of fish and meat were quite small) - the short ribs were nice and tender, the fish was fresh, but again the sauces just didn't do it. They were missing the delicious flavor good sauces have. The mashed potatoes came out of a pastry bag - restaurants still do that? I thought that stop in 1995, apparently not. Also had the special of the night: Seared scallops on beet pasta with bacon mushroom sauce. Scallops were excellent, beet pasta was so so, sauce was the same problem as all other sauces. I had high expectations for Queequegs (the menu descriptions sounded SOOOO good) but the end result disappointed. More specifically the sauces disappointed. May I suggest a new saucier? read more

I've been here a few times, over the last three summers, and the quality has always stayed the same. Great food, good service and a lovely place to eat a meal. Definitely a favorite of mine on the island! The dish to have here - shortribs. And the clam chowder, with the smoky bacon, is just beyond delicious. This past time I had the chowder, and the NY Strip. I was very satisfied with both, and the truffle frites were delicious, definitely not hard to wolf down between bites of caramelized onion and steak. Can't go wrong! I tried some of my companion's dishes, one of my favorite things was the twice baked potato. can't go wrong and it was very delicious. Not entirely sure what cheese was baked into that, but it's potato and cheese, hard to see how that wouldn't be amazing. One of my favorite things about Queequeg's is the ambiance, the decoration and the general feel of it. Really comfortable, and you're never rushed. The waitstaff was very helpful and could answer all our questions. When I was a bit overwhelmed by my drink, they fixed it quickly with no fuss or questions. My notes to anyone going there: - the drinks are strong, so prepare yourself - you definitely want to make a reservation *inside*, so you get the air conditioning! read more

The entrees were very tasty for my friend and me, but the chocolate pot of cream for dessert had GLASS SHARDS in it! When we pointed that out, the waiter offered us another one. Um, no thanks, because maybe that has glass in it, too! We were there last Sunday, 9.14.14. He removed the item from the bill, and that was that. I would expect more of a break, the meal comped, or the manager addressing us, but none of that happened. I usually go to Queequeg's several times when I'm on Nantucket because I like their food and their outdoor seating on a lovely day but may be rethinking that on future visits. We went to Proprieters for dessert and had a nice one there instead, and the waiter there gave my friend a free glass of milk with her dessert, which made up for this. read more

We went to Queequeg's for breakfast on our last day in Nantucket, thanks to a 20% coupon from the t-shirt shop next door. I'm not sure about their dinner prices, but breakfast was the most reasonably priced meal we had during our stay (even without the coupon!). I had crabcake hollandaise. The egg on top was cooked just right, the crab was delectable, and it came with a tasty salad on the side. The blueberry pancakes were humongous and full of berries. If it's not too hot, consider sitting outside on the patio. It's surrounded by pretty blue hydrangeas (like most of Nantucket), and the seats are comfy. We ate here while on a winter weekend trip to the island. The atmosphere of this little place is pretty neat - you really get cozy with your eating neighbors. I'd recommend calling for reservations - even in the winter. The wait staff was fun, engaging, personable, quick...all the good attributes. The food selection was pretty predictable fare for the island...some sort of Bisque, a few creative lobster/scallop dishes. The wine list was inclusive as well - no low end wines here.. Perhaps it's the island in winter - but the overall price tag didn't seem to reflect a similar meal in Boston..unless 2x is the expected conversion (I'd say our $240 meal would run about $120 in a nice restaurant elsewhere). So goes life. Check it out and see if you concur. read more

A fantastic restaurant to brung you into the mind of Herman Melville when he wrote Moby Dick. Everything is named after characters or places in the book. Loved the mojito, but the "pear-fection" was a bit too sweet. No questions asked when i sent it back; the mark of a quality establishment. Also loved the heirloom salad as an app and the Chilean sea bass special for dinner. Yum. It was well placed over a bed of truffle risotto and asparagus. Service was exceptional and I almost give them and extra star, just cause... Don't forget to ask for an extra serving of their fresh bread. You won't be sorry. read more

I think I'd fall in the tiny minority of people who're lucky enough to visit Nantucket during off-season. Empty beaches, no prior restaurant reservations required, and perhaps most importantly, a chance to meet and talk to local folks who'd be working extra hard during peak season to make your stay there as pleasant as possible. The downside of an off season visit of course, is that most places are still closed, which seriously limits dining/lodging options, especially when you're traveling with your dog. Queequeg's, however, was open, and I'm glad that they were. After having spent two days on the island, we were considering cutting our visit short and returning a day earlier than initially planned. We visited Queequeg's on our last night on the island, since it was the only dog friendly place with a patio that was open at the time. I don't think it would be a stretch to say that the friendly staff there, and Executive Chef Brian Williams, were at least, partially responsible for making us extend our stay by a day instead of returning to Boston earlier. Right from the beginning, we felt like we were visiting a friend's home. Our patio table was set, the outdoor heater made the small nook warm and toasty. A stole had been placed next to my chair just in case the evening got chillier. Our server offered to get a bowl of water for the dog even before we ordered our drinks (two thumbs up just for that). Of course once the food started coming in, we loved the place even more. Soul satisfying flavors of creamed cabbage, seared halibut, prosciutto wrapped pork tenderloin, chicken wings, pork belly, braised pork tacos, while familiar, bore Chef Williams' unique mark. Under his guidance, even the most innocuous of dishes dared to surprise. Everything on the menu was recognizable, and yet, nothing seemed ordinary or clichéd. We managed to meet Brian that evening as he was shuffling around trying to get things done. It's easy to tell he's passionate about his work and loves what he's doing by the way he describes his food. We went back to our inn happy and content, and promptly decided to stick around instead of returning home early. We went back to Queequeg's for dinner the next day and needless to say, every item on the menu was as exquisite as it was the day before. read more

Brunch menu eclectic, from sushi to BBQ short rib taco's. Grilled swordfish was the most succulent, flavorful I've ever had! Steamed mussels were also a gastrointestinal delight, but do the shellfish sniff test, as a couple were foul and obviously past the point of consumption. They comp'ed the mussels to their credit! Pretty patio + lobster benedict made for perfect Sunday brunch! The rest of the menu selection looked standard, but yummy! I definitely recommend the lobster benedict. Wandered around for awhile on Saturday morning of Figawi weekend looking for a place to grab some hungover brunch. Everywhere was jammed (talking like, 20 parties ahead of us), and we became quite discouraged and cranky. Then, like a miracle, we stumbled upon Queequeg's adorable outdoor patio and it's delicious sounding brunch menu. Hooray! Three stars because the service was terrible. Took us 45 minutes to get our food, and our drinks came in several rounds. When asked to split the check evenly on two cards, our waiter made some joke about "not being able to do math," and then ran the same card twice. He then disappeared. Joy. That said, I almost peed my pants with excitement when I saw poutine on the menu. As a former Montreal resident, I'm always thrilled to find this tasty treat outside Quebec, especially in a place as random as Nantucket. The gravy was totally killer (made with foie gras...um...awesome), but it could have used more cheese overall. Definitely got rid of my hangover, however, which was the point to begin with. I also opted for a butter lettuce salad with roasted garlic and tomato along with my heart-attack-in-a-bowl, which was well composed. A parmigiano-pepper tuille added some crunch and contributed to the umami flavor of the roasty tomatoes. My two fellow diners ordered the pulled pork hash tostada with avocado crema and poached eggs. The pork had great flavor, and the concept was well thought out. However, one of the eggs was poached to the point of being boiled through, which was a bit of a disappointment. All in all, certainly not a bad brunch choice for $20 a person on Nantucket. Just be prepared to wait for awhile. read more

Would give 3.5; considered 4 because of friendly waitstaff, but in the end went with a 3. A good place to bring small kids in the early evening; the polite waiters (and other guests) were delightfully tolerant of childhood chaos. $25 between 5.30 and 6.30 gets you an appetizer plus entree or entree plus dessert. Kids suppertime dishes range between 6 for pasta and butter, and 10 for something a little more ambitious. My wife enjoyed her sea-bass; my duck was ok, with a crispy outside, but a little dry within. Crabcake entree was tasty; the watermelon sorbet pleasant but a little sugary. Perfectly decent meal; good value early bird special; but I would rather try a few other places than rush back. Nothing particularly Moby Dick - related that I noticed. read more

We dined here hoping to catch it during restaurant week, but the menu did not start until the next day. So, we chose braised beef short ribs and scallops over risotto with grilled asparagus (night's special). Both were very delicious and the scallops were especially large and sweet. For dessert, Sam our server recommended strawberry shortcake. To our disappointment it was hard, did not seem fresh and was very disappointing. The setting is small and intimate, perhaps too dark (some would consider it romantic,) or you can sit outside on the deck. The evening we were there it was not quite warm enough for that setting. read more

A special trip to Nantucket and we were looking for a place to celebrate my birthday. My husband spotted Queequeg's gorgeous little patio and we booked for the next evening. After reading reviews, we took a chance as the reviews are pretty mixed. So glad that we did! We were seated immediately at the table we had requested. As good as the food was the service was perfection ... attentive but not intrusive. Drinks came right way while we pondered the menu. We shared a fabulous Burrata Appetizer. Our entrees, Shrimp Scampi and the Short Ribs were both perfect. I love that half portions are offered for some of the entrees. A special occasion made even better by great food and service. Awful experience! My friends and I made a reservation for 9:30pm. We arrived on time but were rudely told by the hostess to "stand over there" while we waited for our table. Finally about 15 mins later we were seated, but waited at least another 15 mins before our waitress came over to great us. We ordered cocktails and inquired about snack options. Sadly we were told since it was after 10pm -- which was due to the fact that it took over 30 mins to get served -- the only food options were chips and guac/salsa or chicken wings. As if the gross food options weren't bad enough, we were then told we had to order 1 appetizer per every 2 people -- totally 3 appetizers for our group -- due to their restaurant policy regarding COVID-19 regulations. We decided to give it a ago and put in 3 orders of chips and guac at $8 each... chips were stale and the guac was barely a spoonful-size. Shortly after our food arrived, the manager came over and told us that we should not have made a reservation for 9:30pm if we had not planned on having a full dinner. So rude!!!! First off, if wasn't for your shitty service we would have considered ordering more food, but after 10pm our only options were chips and guac or chicken wings. Secondly, the chips and guac were way overpriced at $8 each and disgusting. Thirdly, we spent $160 in the brief 30 minutes we were there between food and booze, and would have spent even more money had we not felt so unwelcome and uncomfortable. read more

This hidden gem behind the atheneum many times has outdoor seating available when most other restaurants in Nantucket are booked. We find the food here just as good. The Mussels are as good as anywhere on the island, prepared in a tasty, savory chairizo red sauce. Steven, our waiter last night was sincerely kind and friendly with good suggestions. The shrimp scampi and scallops we had were prepared cleverly and tasted great, but really you can't go wrong here. There are many good restaurants in Nantucket, but this is one of my favorites. read more

Just tried this restaurant in early September. As noted in an earlier review, a wedding party was scheduled earlier, so we had to wait a while for our tablet. The staff was nothing but wonderful, tried to make us as comfortable as possible and did comp. drinks and an appetizer for us. The food was scrumptious and the atmosphere with friendly wait staff was worth the wait - we were on vacation time, after all! You just have to be suspicious of a place you can walk right into and get the best table in the house. I find a little wait time means I will be rewarded (usually).I will definitely be back! read more

We meet friends at this place and had heard mixed reviews. We sat outside and it was a little tight between the tables. Servers in fact were constantly hitting some of the chairs as they walked by and having to apologize. Chowder was very good and seafood was ok but not very favorable. While bringing out a tray of drinks to our table, the server tripped on another chair and spilled the tray of drinks down my back. Hey mistakes happen and it was no big deal I would live. The problem I had was besides the poor server, no one came over to help or apologize. The manager ran for the hills and the hostess turned her back. As she gave us our check she said that she did not charge us for one drink. Not that I wanted anything, but no manager, no hostess, and one drink for free after sitting in the chair soaked in a mixture of three different drinks seemed like they could have cared less.
