Absolutely disgusted with the treatment I received at this dealership. My review is lengthy but with good reason, and I encourage you to read in it full before considering going here. Or, you can scroll down to the TLDR paragraph for a short summary.
I came here with my family in mid May 2021. We already knew that there is a severe shortage of RAV4s, which is why we reserved the one we wanted with salesperson Ignacio Maldonado. He assured us we would get the car we wanted, as the car was in the process of being built to be delivered to the dealership by late June. We confirmed multiple times we wanted a particular color with no sun roof. We then provided a deposit, and we were given the VIN number of the specific vehicle we had reserved.
Fast forward to 06/24 and I received a call that my car had arrived. Ignacio told me I had to go that very same day, otherwise it would "probably" be sold. Huh? I placed a DEPOSIT on this car. Why would it be sold to someone else if I had already agreed to purchase it?
Went to the dealership that very day only to find out that the car was NOT the one what we agreed to. A totally different color, with NONE of the accessories I wanted. Ignacio was adamant that was the color we chose. I showed him the summary of the car I selected which clearly stated a different color and a totally different VIN. His response was "oh that was just an example of the car." It definitely was not. Ignacio tried to make US look like the dishonest ones, when I really think he was trying to cover up his own mistake.
Although the car was not the color I wanted, I was willing to purchase it. However the accessories, which was already included in the agreed upon final price of the car, needed to be added. We were told we would need to buy the car and then come back to the service center for the accessories. Fine. Then we're told a cockamamie story about how the car is now $2k more because of the pandemic. So now not only is the car wrong, but he tried to upcharge us. Finally, it was agreed to shave off $750 off the price. When we agreed to this, I called my insurance company and added the car to my policy. I mention this because we were very clearly interested and invested in purchasing this car.
We wanted to explore our financing options with Toyota and compare it to my own lender, which I was already preapproved for. Ignacio said that was perfectly fine, and the car would be reserved until then.
Queensboro had already run my credit, and knew the APR I was approved for, but flat out REFUSED to tell us the number that day. We were told we would have to return on Saturday 06/26 because all the finance people had left for the evening.
I returned on 06/26 to speak to the financing office about my lending choices with Toyota credit Corp. Not surprisingly, the rates with my pre approved offer were better and I said I wanted my loan to be with the bank of my choosing. The finance guy gives me the run around and refused to send my credit application to my bank. Said we needed to come back on Monday if we wanted to go that route because "the banks are closed". This was on a Saturday at 1:30pm- my bank was open. Additionally, a bank being closed that doesn't mean you can't submit a credit application.
So we left. Ignacio calls me 20 minutes later and says we HAVE to buy the car TODAY or it will be sold to someone else. I asked how is it possible to sell the car I've waited almost 2 months for and put a deposit down for????? His excuse was "well it's the end of the month". How is that my problem?? Apparently they couldn't wait an additional 2 days, which is what THEY told me I had to wait, to get the car in my hands.
All I wanted was for Queensboro Toyota to stop jerking me around and do what I asked when it came to financing. Unfortunately, these people want to force your hand and play by their rules even if it means screwing their customers over. I have never in my life encountered such disgusting selling practices.
When we asked if we can go pick up our cash deposit, Ignacio said we had to return on Monday to retrieve the deposit because of some made up reason.
I ended up going to Millenium Toyota in Hempstead that very afternoon and purchase the RAV4 I wanted. Millenium had no problem submitting my credit application to the lender of my choosing on a Saturday afternoon.
TLDR: Queensboro Toyota tried to push me into purchasing a car that I didn't ask for with an unfavorable interest rate with their lender, flat out refused to send my credit application to the lender I selected, and threatened to have it sold if I didn't meet their demands even though a deposit had been made on the car I reserved almost 2 months prior. I was lied to several times throughout the 3 times I visited. It was a completely despicable and disrespectful experience. Don't spend your money here. read more
