On this special visit, I want to highlight the exceptional service I received from one of the librarians. He took his time to help me search for the book I was interested in, and he also escorted me to the bookshelves to find it. He answered all my inquiries and explained that a fashion show was about to start. I would have been in a rush to leave during this visit, but because the librarian was so helpful, I decided to stay for the evening event. I was able to use the self-checkout kiosk, and it was very easy to follow the instructions on the touchscreen. I observed a spectacular fashion show and had the opportunity to meet some amazing people. I would highly recommend that anyone interested in great activities, lessons, programs and events check out the Queens Central Library calendar.

I'm going to rate them on Google as well and then I'm going to look where I can make a complaint at the library itself. It makes no sense to complain to the librarian because they are conversing loud. I asked for a quieter place and she looked at the couple and then pointed me to a section that doesn't have outlets to charge my laptop. I get it, she could tell them to be quiet because they were just as loud.

They have their collections of books, magazines, DVDs, CDs and other media available for perusal and loan. There is even a large children's section that I used to bring my son to when he was younger, with lots of tables for reading and homework. The current pandemic lockdown has changed all that and all public spaces have had to adjust their practices accordingly. I am glad that Queens Library has made their collections available again via their website. You can search their vast catalog for any of their materials from any branch, put in a request and it will be delivered to your local branch for pick-up. When you arrive, make sure you're wearing your mask, check in with the security guard and you can then go to your designated cart to find your marked books or media. Checkout is a snap at the self-service desk by placing your library card on the scanner pad and then your materials. I really like the convenience of designated library parking spots out front. And when you are finished with your borrowed materials, the walk-up self-service automated return kiosk makes it even easier than picking them up. But if you really want to avoid human contact and stay buttoned up in your house, ebooks are also available through their website.

Only problem is the parking lot is on the other side of the street and the traffic is so bad on Hillside Avenue. I came to this library for the first time for toddler open play and I thought it was great! It took…read moreplace on the 2nd floor and the area is next to a bunch of windows so you can see outside facing the library parking lot and street. A lot of natural light comes in and it's a big space for open play with a ton of toy options and a table just for coloring. The one negative is once open play is over (about an hour), they put away all the toys. I've been to other libraries where they leave the toys out for the children to play with as long as the library is open. The parking lot is very big and there were plenty of spots when I went, which was a weekday at 4:30pm. I liked how the open play was in the middle of the day as early times don't work for my family's schedule.
