So bells started going off in my head - maybe it was the vodka I was sipping at the time - and I started thinking of my old library - the Francis Martin Branch. I absolutely adored that place. I loved books and to this day I will not go to sleep without reading at least a bit of the book I am in the middle of. At the time I lived on the other end of University Avenue - between Burnside and Tremont. Every Friday afternoon I would walk to the library - quite a walk actually - but I followed the Aqueduct all the way up. Of course the first thing I did after walking up the ramp and entering the hallowed hall was to return the books I carried with me that I had taken out the previous week. I always took out six books - which was the most you were allowed to. I had of course read all six during the course of the week. After cropping off last week's I was free to go off and find another six to take for the upcoming week. When I had all my new selections I would take them over to the Librarian to remove the book's card from the inside cover and stamp it with the return date. Every once in a while the pretty Librarian would gush over one of my choices telling me how much she had enjoyed reading that book. Best praise I ever received. I would tie the six books up in a blue rubber strap and walk home. If I remember correctly - the walk each way was between a half hour to forty-five minutes depending on how many times I had to cross University Avenue or hide to keep far away from the imbeciles who roamed the street. Most of the time I arrived home safely with my cargo - except for that one they caught up with me... but that is a story for a different time. Oh. Did I forget to mention that I was approximately between 10 to 14 years old when this whole incident took place? I am now close to 70 years old and I am glad that I can finally pay tribute to my old Library Branch - Francis Martin. I am so glad to see it is still up and running. I am hopeful that there are many many kids filling the isles and checking out books - or whatever the computer version is today and - checking out their media with today''s pretty Librarian. Maybe even then imbeciles of today - and I know they are still out there - can be enticed in to come in and read a book or two. I sincerely believe that reading can the world a better place. Thank you for then and thank you for listening now!!

The adult section is roomy and has lots of books but Im so disappointed that they don't carry a little of my favorite authors . I stop by a fee times a month and search the entire adult section and sometimes happen to find a book that will interest me. I am willing to try different authors and books so I usually will get 4 to 5 books only to find that 1 or sometimes 2 are to my liking. I even asked for a particular book several months ago and i never heard from them either telling me the book was there or that they were unable to get it. I have lived in this neighborhood for over 35 years and this has always been my go to branch. The employees ate always helpful, friendly and professional and are great if i need any other help other than finding my favorite authors.
