Most libraries in the Queens Public Library system are smaller neighborhood facilities to serve the local community like this Fresh Meadows branch. They have their collections of books, magazines, DVDs, CDs and other media available for perusal and loan. There is even a large children's section that I used to bring my son to when he was younger, with lots of tables for reading and homework. The current pandemic lockdown has changed all that and all public spaces have had to adjust their practices accordingly. I am glad that Queens Library has made their collections available again via their website. You can search their vast catalog for any of their materials from any branch, put in a request and it will be delivered to your local branch for pick-up. When you arrive, make sure you're wearing your mask, check in with the security guard and you can then go to your designated cart to find your marked books or media. Checkout is a snap at the self-service desk by placing your library card on the scanner pad and then your materials. I really like the convenience of designated library parking spots out front. And when you are finished with your borrowed materials, the walk-up self-service automated return kiosk makes it even easier than picking them up. But if you really want to avoid human contact and stay buttoned up in your house, ebooks are also available through their website. read more

I haven't been to this branch in years.. Honestly feels like at least a decade.. Mostly cuz they rarely have the books that I'm interested in reading. Yesterday afternoon, was my first visit in a long time, mainly to return some books that I had borrowed from the Flushing location. I was BLOWN AWAY! LOL The entrance and layout looked standard.. No big deal. BUT the checkout, the returns, the pay bill, are all done by machine and computer now!! I showed up yesterday after few months. That African American lady at the customer services area apparently is still being there. She is giving me dirty looks and keeping her eyes on me until I left for day. She wants to make sure that I'm not cause any problem or stealing anything. I've been going to this library since I was a kid. I've gone to other Queens libraries since moving farther away but I always come back because, in my opinion, it's the best one. It's not as big as other branches but because of that it feels more manageable to walk around to browse. And regardless of its smaller size, it always has a solid collection of books to peruse as well as always has the DVDs that I want to borrow, even without requesting. I bring my sister to this Queens library location because it's the most convenient for us. The parking here isn't the best, but it is definitely much easier to find a spot than at the Central Library, Hillcrest or Hollis locations. This place is small, but I feel it's more geared to the kids with most of the seating meant for them. There aren't any private study desks so as a college student I wouldn't be able get work done in here. The chairs in my size are in a community table and I don't like studying while strangers are at the same table as me. That's just my preference and may not be an issue to you. Unfortunately, there aren't many outlets around so don't plan on using a laptop to do work there the whole day. Being a smaller library there isn't that large of a selection of reading material. What I do is find the book I want to borrow and have it reserved and sent to this location for me to pickup. Sure I'll wait a few days for it to arrive, but no big deal. The staff here is friendly by Queens library standards. They're usually cranky and I don't blame them from the amount of people they have to help all day. Currently, they're renovating and my little sister and I can't wait to see the new look on our next visit! read more

This library is TINNNY. I couldn't believe it when I walked in. There wasn't many places to sit but there was a good collection of books for such a small library. The staff are also very friendly and nice. read more

I went here with my son to get his first Library Card and the worker that helped him out with the process (Stephanie) was very nice and patient with him and explaining to me the dos and donts about his library card. The librarian there was very nice as well..I didn't get her name but she was an Asian woman with glasses. I definitely look forward to bringing my son here for his future books and other rentals. read more

This place is really bad. They don't welcome children to go inside and read books. I babysit some children and always bring them to the library to read books. The children enjoy reading but the library manager keeps telling us to not come because there are no empty seats. However, for the most of the time, there were many empty seats and middle school kids come to do projects on the floor rather than using the table and the manager would blame us on taking the seats. It just had really bad service. I feel they don't have to the right to do that because we are the tax payer and they still ask us to leave. If I have choice, I would choose to not pay the tax to the library because they are not having our tax paid and used correctly. read more

This is a great library. It has a very vast collection of books at it's disposal, as well as I modern moderating system for returning and checking out books. While the kids area might get packed throughout the day, the adult/young adult section of the library is usually quiet, and often there is room to sit. For kids, they have many different activities for them, including arts and crafts. The staff is very helpful and friendly, and I can definitely recommend this library to other people. read more

It is small but the children's section is great. So many chapter books for kids. I am a teacher and this library is a great place to find series/chapter books on all levels. I always think of this library as a treat because they have a kick ass media collection and a nice shiny new building. Not a lot of space to sit down and read, but if you are grabbing a book/movie or two and getting out, it's perfect. Proximity to restaurants and shopping helps too. read more

At one point in the afternoon there are a lot of children who are incredibly loud and disruptive. The staff makes minimal effort to quiet them down. In addition, there are older children as well who are also very chatty and loud. There are better, quieter branches with a wider selection of books, to be honest. And there's one staff member who is very rude. When all the seats in the charging table were taken I plugged my laptop charger into an outlet 1.5 feet away from my seat. After a while a woman who worked here rudely stabbed my shoulder with her finger and snapped "*Excuse me*, you can't put that there" and walked away. Um....ok? You could've told me that more politely. I went here one day in the summer and overheard the staff complaining that the AC was broken and not working that well, so you probably shouldn't drop by here just to cool down. The only reason I could think of anyone going here is if it's the only location close to their house. read more

This is becoming more of a cyber cafe. The kids are playing games and shouting while the librarians are just sitting there. A library is suppose to be quiet and a place where kids should learn and read. Not playing games. They can do that at home. Other then that they have a vast selection of books and media. read more
