I have been to this particular library a quite a few times over the years, for different reasons ,if it was for a book or to make photo copies of documents this library has always been there to help me out and has been a asset to the jamaica queens community as well.this library has helped so many people over the years, this library has also been a sanctuary for a lot of us who just needed an escape from what was ever going on in their lives at the time, Whether by a a book or just using one of their computers.this place has always been clean and the staff has been friendly and courteous. as long as I can remember this was the only main library we had on the south jamaica side of queens. This is the largest library in queens and one of the busiest also .I believe it is also one of the largest in the the United states. As the internet is slowly taking over the world and making alot of things obsolete. This place that we call the library cannot be replaced in my book .from the librarians to to the atmosphere of a good old fashioned library experience you just cant replace that with the technology take over. the human interaction cannot be replaced. And that is what the library gives you. But they always say reading is fundamental whether by reading a book or a computer screen .no matter were you are getting the information from as long as you get it and it simplify things for you .but the library is an institution that everybody and every generation should be able to experience. I hope it will never become extinct.

As a parent, I like the cafe inside this library a lot. This is a great idea so that our little ones can snack and drink before going inside the Discover area or in between or afterwards. ;) Their Columbian coffee and croissant were my favorite! The little one enjoyed the fluffy croissant too! The Discovery area for kids is very organized with staff on each side of the entrance to assist when needed. No food or drinks allowed inside the discovery area so the cafe outside is just a perfect rest area for kids and parents. Inside the Discovery area, there is a fish tank with LIVE fishes, great for entertaining little kids. There is also a mini play area for kids who want to take a break from reading.. IF they read that is lol There are a few computers for kids to play educational games with. There are shelves after shelves of different kinds of children's books. My little one is still not so much into the reading yet, so that goes for the point of bringing her to this library. However, she did do a bit of exercise by bringing each book from one location to the next and climbing the mini staircase. ;D We shall come back just to have her spend some more time with BOOKS while I hop over to get my favorite Columbian coffee from the cafe kekekekeke

As a Long Island native, I greatly underestimated Queens Public Library. This is the best library experience ever. Conveniently located in the heart of Jamaica, this spot is a gem! Competent staff, advanced kiosks to ensure accurate and speedy check outs, minus lines. A new and up to date Media collection. Modern designed and stylish facility. I love coming here and my daughter loves the Children's Discovery Center.

New cafe located at the front of library where the old store used to be.

In fact, the Queens library system is one of the best library systems I have encountered ( I have lived in the WDC and Boston areas).

I forgot the process in terms of any services needed requires a library card to do anything. I found this out when I asked to use the computer. I was told to sign up at the kiosk which I tried to do, but Lo and behold a library card and pin are required to access a computer. I asked a clerk if she could look up my info so that I can access the computer. She said she could offer me a replacement card for $2. If I were in a jam and didn't have a library card at all I would've obliged, but I've explained that I left my library card at home. I mean really who still uses the library, I most certainly don't. I've been out of school for over a decade now. Her response was that unfortunately she couldn't look up my info because she's just a clerk. Ehh you work here don't you? Isn't it your job to verify info if necessary especially when it applies to customer service? I told her that's odd and yeah no thanks. She told me I could ask someone else. I walked away because I was truly baffled. I ended back at the front desk to ask for assistance. A very nice woman gave me a courtesy pass to use the computer. She asked for my Id, found my previous addresses, and updated it to my current one in the system. There's an ample amount of computers for your use. Computer usage is for an hour. There's a Media Center, Children's Room, Book Section, Study Section, Bathroom (a key is required), and a customer service area. They recently had an update over the weekend which makes doing anything requiring the internet extremely slow. If you need to print anything, a page costs .15¢. Your first 20 pages are free.

They offer a weekly playgroup and story time here and I tend to bring my toddler here more often than to the Ozone Park branch as there are left major streets for me to cross with him. The few times he has come to play group, he enjoyed it for the most part. He took the librarians in charge of facilitating the playgroup and loved meeting the other moms and children there. The children's book section is also very well stocked with a nice variety of books that my toddler and I enjoy reading together each week. When we don't want to go to the Ozone Park branch or to the Children's Discovery Library at the Central Library, we come here and it's perfectly fine for that. I'm giving it 3 stars because it needs to be updated the way they just finally finished updating the Ozone Park branch.

The librarians are helpful and somewhat friendly, but my main issue is the noise and the lack of rule enforcement. The children reading and learning is absolutely fine, it's the people who are blasting videos on their phones without headphones and constantly being disruptive to the workflow. No staff attempts to enforce any rules. The tables are oddly intimate and facing each other, so you'd be facing another individual for hours on end, and chances are they are blasting music too. If you like staring at crackheads, I think you'd love this place. There are CDs, DVDs, Books and all, but they're all old. They need to update their collection. I came here to study for an exam and got so irritated with all of the inadequacies, I left. I think studying on the Chambers Street platform is better than studying here. SMH. What a library.

I was looking over the books displayed by the counter when the older gentleman that works there abruptly stood up, slammed his umbrella on the counter and exclaimed without looking at me but intended for me, "May I help you!" to the gales of LOUD laughter from an older female staff member. This went on for 15 minutes with him saying, "I understand if you're a teenager but you are older than me and I should be learning wisdom from you" with roars of endless LOUD hysterical, guffawing from the female. How ironic since you don't see how YOUR behavior and that of your colleague mirrors rude teenagers. A characteristic you think you see in others but not YOURSELF. Oh, the irony. If you have a problem with me discuss it with me politely instead of throwing passive aggressive insulting comments and laughing about it. You also blamed me for "causing you to have dark thoughts" (your words). Oh, no. YOU are causing YOURSELF to have dark thoughts. Don't blame that on me. Grow up.
