This library helped me not go crazy as a kid because I was the child of immigrants who struggled financially as well as not knowing navigating the USA. My 3rd grade friend informed me of free libarary because she was an avid reader. I still remember we had a book worm in class and she surpassed everyone with her love of reading. I was in second. I finally walked in today to check out since the library's renovation - haven't been back since high school when my parents moved us out of Elmhurst and it was BEAUTIFUL! I was amazed how modern, bright, airy and just so peaceful with lots of seats as well as plenty of people doing work/reading. Definitely will be back.

Took the books into the Children's Meeting area where there were many empty tables and chairs, so I sat down to go through the materials. A class had just finished. Parents had started to leave with their kids. A staff member asked the librarian, who is that person in the blue shirt. She came over and asked me where my kid was. I said I do not have a child with me. She said I can not sit here. I asked her where do I go? She said you have to go to the adult section. I was going to leave the books on the table. Staff goes it's a library take the books with and after you finish leave it on the table. Went down to the second floor it said Teen section- Confused was I not suppose to be there too. Had no teenager with me. There were tables at the media area. Sat there reviewed all the materials. Took books back to third floor and placed books outside of the Children's area. Where is the adult area? First floor? I see computers and people of all ages there. I did not see a sign. This is a very small library. People sitting on benches by elevator. Only three floors on this site. Had been here one time just to get catalog of activities at this library for family member. Tried to take pictures to post with review. Staff said you are not allowed to take pictures. Some of the staff is very abrupt and not the friendliest. Will I be back? Probably not. I am use to going to the libraries in Manhattan for they are bigger and staff are much more welcoming.

The selection of books is plenty and sections are organized from topics from A to Z . Books , cds , dvds can be taken out but you got to get and have a library card which is free and easy to get in minutes. Help my godson with his book report as the reading and research books are available and most important he got the experience of visiting his local library which I never took for granted during my youth . 5 stars for the flashback memories.

Definitely has a different look from your typical library -- it's a round structure painted with primary colors (blue, yellow, red), akin to a Kindergarten. But don't be fooled, it's your average Queens Library inside. Because of the unusual structure of the building there is a lack of windows so be prepared to adjust your eyes to the darkness inside. The shelves are arranged around the outside edge (like spokes of a wheel) and the center holds the computers and tables/chairs. This branch is still in the Dark Ages (no pun intended) so there is no self-check out yet. But it does the job and I generally emerge with a book or two in hand. I've come to feel at home here and feel that it's unusual shape and color simply adds to its charm.

The branch altogether is small but I'm sure I would need to request a book from the branch if I needed it. Ambience - 3: The adult section and children's section alike are small. There are only four long tables, two cushioned lounge chairs with a table in the center and a counter prioritized for laptop users (their wifi sucks, by the way); all of this is on the adult side. I've never actually walked to the children's section but from what I've seen looking from the entrance way, they have much more going for them. The library is not quiet at all. If you want to get work done, bring your headphones. It's ridiculous that people pick up phone calls or have conversations there. Other than, it's a place to do homework away from home. Location - 5: It's convenient because of the distance from my house to library. There are also convenience stores, a laundromat, mini-malls, etc. close by the library. They are currently doing construction so you may miss the entrance since it is covered with scaffolding. Do not speed past it.

This is kind of ridiculous but I had to write this just as a heads up. This review is based on a…read morerequest for a book I placed online on Monday May 19th. There were only 5 branches total that had a copy of the book (none of which are that close to me) & 2 already had the book checked out. There were 2 copies at the Central Branch & one at Arverne. As of Monday afternoon the book was showing as "Requested for Loan". Tues, Wed, Thurs, still "Requested"... By Friday I decided to call the branch & ask why the book still showed after several days as "Requested" and not "In Transit". I was told the procedure as being after it shows as "Requested" the next day it would be pulled from the shelf, then the day after put on the truck & sent to Central where they then sort it to the branches kind of like mail. I asked if that means it would not show as "In Transit" until after Central sends it out & I was told that was correct. Fast forward to Tues afternoon (after Memorial Day)... the book STILL says "Requested". I called the Central branch. Same story. I still can't figure out if they have the book in their possession or not. The lady also tells me it's the day after a holiday so that's gonna slow it down some. Wed, Thurs, Fri... Still "Requested"! I call back Arverne. I spoke to a guy working the reference desk who was just filling in from another branch. I explained the whole thing & he took my card # & said he had some customers ahead of me but was going to look into it & see if ithe book was around there. I called back after work & he said he didn't get to it yet but he was going to try to locate the book. I asked him if it says "Requested" does that mean it has not been sent to Central yet. He told me that was right. He said the book might be lost or stolen or misplaced in the branch. He said if that was the case they would have to try to get it sent from another branch. I got home Friday nite & for fun checked my account online. The book now said "In Transit"... That substitute guy was the first very helpful person who actually didn't mind doing his job! ** FIVE STARS for fill-in guy from another branch!!
