One of our secret gems.... The library located across the street from the projects. The area is a little sketchy but the library is great.

What a gem this place is for kids! I admit, I never considered bringing my toddlers to the library…read morebecause I assumed they weren't allowed to make noise there. Who knew this library has a large kids room with baby toys, coloring, little tables, a touch screen computer with learning software, audio books, and hand puppets. Plus they have weekly free classes for kids which were better than the classes I used to pay for elsewhere. My kids had a blast here. This will be my new hangout spot. Plus, the staff were so friendly & helpful.

Crackhead central. Sorry, but so true. I've been to a couple public libraries in the city and this…read moreis perhaps one of the worst. Unfortunately, it is not the staff but it's patrons. I suppose a public place like this attracts all the crowds but this one seems to be a beacon for the unruly. As much as I hate to admit it, I do come here quite a bit to get some monthly reading and occasional writing done. Parking is on the street, so it can be pretty tight since it's near the commercial center of Rockaway Park. If your lucky you'll find some residential street parking or if you are come via train, its the next block over. The staff are alright. I've had minimal interaction and it has usually been hassle-free, so no complaints there. They have a nice little collection of fiction reads and advertisement for local Queens Library Programs on display. The space is small but for the most part clean. They have about half a dozen computers for public use, with the standard 30 minute session. Depending on what time of the day, you will have to wait for usage and it's like the Hunger Games if you go in the evening. I've met all sorts of characters shouting obscenities or ones that just straight up mean mug you. My trips here are brief. Overall, if I don't have to go here I won't, I rather go to the one at Broad Channel for a more peaceful environment.

A peaceful place to escape from the world with books, videos, music…read more I've gotten some excellent videos here, better than trying to find them on line. They have some good movies, shows and exhibits. This is one of the nicest places to escape to in Long Beach and right down the street from Starbucks and plenty of good places to eat. I take the kids here all the time. Free Wi-Fi, relaxed atmosphere. Great children's section upstairs and they sometimes have some good books or videos for sale second hand. This is one of the best Libraries around and the staff is very nice and helpful. Come Sit and Read or Just Veg out.

In this crappy economy im going to say buying a $15 book at barnes and noble isnt the first thing…read morepeople have on their shopping lists. The library is a FREE institution and if you're lucky enough like me to have a great library you should definitely take advantage of it. Not only for the economical reasons but also because its GREEN! Reuse! They have a great selection of reading material and a great dvd section. No more $5 blockbuster rentals or $20 netflix monthly fees. I've never not found something i was looking for and if they are missing it you can get on their waiting list or request a book. Coming from living in the city for many years this library is a godsend. All of the branch libraries ive gone to in the city are the worst and never had anything most people would want to read. Truly unfortunate. Go get your free library card today and take advantage of what they offer. I've never stayed there to read anything or had to deal with the staff other than to get my card and sign a book out and they were always pleasant.
