Mostly frequent by young adults using lap tops and after school kids. It does way better with a small space than Seaside does with its quick post storm renovated space. I wonder why this library, in this side of town, has not been renovated.

There is an excellent children and teenage book selection along with the standard free internet stations are ample for library patrons. Staff is very friendly and welcoming for the island's hospitality. It sits visible on the major road, Cross Bay Boulevard and easily accessible by the Q21, Q52, or Q53 buses as I've seen it many times en route to my high school in the Rockaway Peninsula. This is my very first visit inside and I'm happy for a jewel find. The building's circular but small structure piqued my interest, amid it's real far distance from mainland Queens, but the quiet atmosphere calls for finding time to sit and read in seclusion away from the world. This is kind of ridiculous but I had to write this just as a heads up. This review is based on a…read morerequest for a book I placed online on Monday May 19th. There were only 5 branches total that had a copy of the book (none of which are that close to me) & 2 already had the book checked out. There were 2 copies at the Central Branch & one at Arverne. As of Monday afternoon the book was showing as "Requested for Loan". Tues, Wed, Thurs, still "Requested"... By Friday I decided to call the branch & ask why the book still showed after several days as "Requested" and not "In Transit". I was told the procedure as being after it shows as "Requested" the next day it would be pulled from the shelf, then the day after put on the truck & sent to Central where they then sort it to the branches kind of like mail. I asked if that means it would not show as "In Transit" until after Central sends it out & I was told that was correct. Fast forward to Tues afternoon (after Memorial Day)... the book STILL says "Requested". I called the Central branch. Same story. I still can't figure out if they have the book in their possession or not. The lady also tells me it's the day after a holiday so that's gonna slow it down some. Wed, Thurs, Fri... Still "Requested"! I call back Arverne. I spoke to a guy working the reference desk who was just filling in from another branch. I explained the whole thing & he took my card # & said he had some customers ahead of me but was going to look into it & see if ithe book was around there. I called back after work & he said he didn't get to it yet but he was going to try to locate the book. I asked him if it says "Requested" does that mean it has not been sent to Central yet. He told me that was right. He said the book might be lost or stolen or misplaced in the branch. He said if that was the case they would have to try to get it sent from another branch. I got home Friday nite & for fun checked my account online. The book now said "In Transit"... That substitute guy was the first very helpful person who actually didn't mind doing his job! ** FIVE STARS for fill-in guy from another branch!!

I seen a mean comment on Google try to downplay the far walk away public library saying it was…read moredirty and how they just had random people taking up space When I went there, it was the total opposite for me. They even had live music playing, and a small group from the community was watching as it was free Also there you did not make no sense. The public library is for everybody and if people choose to sit there, I do not see the problem it is as long as you're not making a ruckus. I do not see the problem. Secondly, the place was not. The bathroom were nice. The floors were nice. I said no trash no nothing minding their business or with a friend doing their thing. The only thing I do agree with that review is that there is a small selection of books, but they do have videos DVDs, which is pretty cool. All I can say is I think what time collection of books could possibly grow with donations and then buying more books. It also has a computer which is free because all you need to get a library card is your ID and that's it you're in.

I've only been here once as I do prefer to bring my child to the Bay Ridge Location because of the set up. But my impressions are that the staff is very accommodating and are ready to help when necessary. It seems to be much quieter than the BR Location so, if you do need a quiet space for study, this would be the right location.

The biggest perks are its view of the Plumb 1 waterway all the way out to Gerritsen Creek with the famously quaint view (feels like one isn't even in NYC), the spacious sunny low traffic environ, and a very kid-centric selection and likewise staff. The location is super easy about center along the crucial Gerritsen Ave of the same-named neighborhood with B31 service out front with clear signage and presence. Its sandstone and color matched the numeruous Catholic buildings nearby which is a very thoughtful touch. The immediate impression is spacious sun light with its wide windows open East-West for the morning and afternoon sun both and high roof allowing gentle murmings from inside. The area population is heavy on kids and the branch wisely caters to them with its such selection and a staff long known for being thoughtful with kids whether as librarian or fellow human. The neighborhood also means lower foot traffic so all the feeling is very homeily and quaint.

They have some good movies, shows and exhibits. This is one of the nicest places to escape to in Long Beach and right down the street from Starbucks and plenty of good places to eat. I take the kids here all the time. Free Wi-Fi, relaxed atmosphere. Great children's section upstairs and they sometimes have some good books or videos for sale second hand. This is one of the best Libraries around and the staff is very nice and helpful. Come Sit and Read or Just Veg out.

The library is a FREE institution and if you're lucky enough like me to have a great library you should definitely take advantage of it. Not only for the economical reasons but also because its GREEN! Reuse! They have a great selection of reading material and a great dvd section. No more $5 blockbuster rentals or $20 netflix monthly fees. I've never not found something i was looking for and if they are missing it you can get on their waiting list or request a book. Coming from living in the city for many years this library is a godsend. All of the branch libraries ive gone to in the city are the worst and never had anything most people would want to read. Truly unfortunate. Go get your free library card today and take advantage of what they offer. I've never stayed there to read anything or had to deal with the staff other than to get my card and sign a book out and they were always pleasant.

My daughter goes to the children's events here and I need to say Ms. Kunz the children's librarian…read moreis an amazing person. She does so much with the kids and treats them so well. She loves her job and the kids of valley stream which I appreciate so much. My father uses takes my daughter and we always raves about how fun the events are with Ms. Kunz. I went for myself and was so impressed. She gets all the kids involved and happy. In the summer they have the story times all around the neighborhood such as firemans field, village green, green acres mall and more. My daughter absolutely loves the Valley Stream childrens program and as a parent who couldn't afford summer camp I appreciate this program so much. It helps us keep our children busy and entertained. Ms Kunz, please keep doing the children's program because you are a blessing to Valley Stream and it's residents!
