As I walked to the entrance I saw ample parking on the other side. Walking inside I saw so much beauty and it was very quiet in here. I say at a cubicle up stairs and there was peace and quiet. The staff is gentle. I received a gentle scolding for being on the phone. Upon leaving the library at 5 pm, I thanked the librarian for the scolding and apologized at the same time, ensuring that I my actions will not be repeated in the future. This review is short because I was focused and trying to get much of my editing done, but it looks like I may not return to Franklin square library, wait,,, I have friends at Franklin square. I come for the cubicles and the clean restroom. I'll admit, some elderly members of the majority have put in that little extra effort to imply that my presence is not welcome (I had an elderly man silently but abrasively refuse to share the sidewalk, and middle aged women who look petrified if we cross paths in the restroom), but overall I find the library filled with folk who want to quietly complete tasks.

There's two return checkout machines (1 is conveniently located outside and the other one is inside next to the bathroom). As soon as you walk in on your left are the computers and some tables. On the right side is teen room with few tables and a bathroom. In the back of the library is 2-3 tables to sit as well. Checkout counter is located by the librarian desk next to the computers. Two librarians are always seated next to the entrance of teen room and that is where you can sign up to use the computers. I have tried to study here few times but this is not a place to sit down and study at all as it's really loud. The librarians are actually loud as I have heard them converse with each other without even caring others are trying to do some work. I am not fond of their book collection either but I randomly go in to pick up some books for my 2nd and 3rd grade nephews.

This is kind of ridiculous but I had to write this just as a heads up. This review is based on a…read morerequest for a book I placed online on Monday May 19th. There were only 5 branches total that had a copy of the book (none of which are that close to me) & 2 already had the book checked out. There were 2 copies at the Central Branch & one at Arverne. As of Monday afternoon the book was showing as "Requested for Loan". Tues, Wed, Thurs, still "Requested"... By Friday I decided to call the branch & ask why the book still showed after several days as "Requested" and not "In Transit". I was told the procedure as being after it shows as "Requested" the next day it would be pulled from the shelf, then the day after put on the truck & sent to Central where they then sort it to the branches kind of like mail. I asked if that means it would not show as "In Transit" until after Central sends it out & I was told that was correct. Fast forward to Tues afternoon (after Memorial Day)... the book STILL says "Requested". I called the Central branch. Same story. I still can't figure out if they have the book in their possession or not. The lady also tells me it's the day after a holiday so that's gonna slow it down some. Wed, Thurs, Fri... Still "Requested"! I call back Arverne. I spoke to a guy working the reference desk who was just filling in from another branch. I explained the whole thing & he took my card # & said he had some customers ahead of me but was going to look into it & see if ithe book was around there. I called back after work & he said he didn't get to it yet but he was going to try to locate the book. I asked him if it says "Requested" does that mean it has not been sent to Central yet. He told me that was right. He said the book might be lost or stolen or misplaced in the branch. He said if that was the case they would have to try to get it sent from another branch. I got home Friday nite & for fun checked my account online. The book now said "In Transit"... That substitute guy was the first very helpful person who actually didn't mind doing his job! ** FIVE STARS for fill-in guy from another branch!!

Local…read morelibraries sometimes suffer from city funding but Jamaica has always held its ground from since my childhood. My elementary days involved Jamaica Bay almost daily! Coming here every now and then reminds me of what a staple it is in my community and how it serves the community if you let it. It's been through several renovations since I remember it and it looks good. I came on this specific day to get an issue resolved with my library card and check out the new books selection. There new book selection is great it's books front be same year meaning they're doing funding wise. I got help quickly and resolved my issue quickly. Love coming here always.

You can request material for loan online and get notified when it's at the branch ready for pickup. They are open six days a week. I went on Sunday at about 1:00pm. The place was packed, like they were giving something away for free..... Oh wait................

I would like to see much more history in the collection. The old library had much more in European…read moreand American history. Otherwise, the Jewish collection is pretty good, though it could have more Jewish philosophy. The library seems to have a lot for children and teens which is good because they probably can't buy so much on kindle. Also, it helps kids on Shabbos and Yom Tov where they can't use their iPhones. Let's help our libraries. We can't go entirely electronic. Systems are apt to crash and become obsolete. Preserve the written word!

Book Selection - 3: I been to this particular branch four times in the past week. I haven't…read moresearched their book collection but it looks very small from just looking. The branch altogether is small but I'm sure I would need to request a book from the branch if I needed it. Ambience - 3: The adult section and children's section alike are small. There are only four long tables, two cushioned lounge chairs with a table in the center and a counter prioritized for laptop users (their wifi sucks, by the way); all of this is on the adult side. I've never actually walked to the children's section but from what I've seen looking from the entrance way, they have much more going for them. The library is not quiet at all. If you want to get work done, bring your headphones. It's ridiculous that people pick up phone calls or have conversations there. Other than, it's a place to do homework away from home. Location - 5: It's convenient because of the distance from my house to library. There are also convenience stores, a laundromat, mini-malls, etc. close by the library. They are currently doing construction so you may miss the entrance since it is covered with scaffolding. Do not speed past it.
