Big place with plenty of spaced seating to read , study , sleep ,etc. Very good selection of books , magazines and other learning materials as well . While my goddaughter was able to do her research on her own , I roamed around and felt a bite nostalgia like as I looked around . Glad the public library is still around and a great resource to have regardless of ones age . Got a new library card while I was here and now have a good excuse to come back . 5 stars and thanks for the memories .

Libraries are vital to our society, and unfortunately many libraries in Queens and across the city are facing tax cuts ,and as a result face shortened hours, and cutting of programs and weekend hours. Librarians in this library have grown to know me, and my family at this library on a first name basis, and I love it. There are petitions and many other things that need to be done to keep small local libraries like this one open. The book selection is vast, and because it is the most diverse borough, and has languages spoken from over 150 countries there are also books, and DVDs in other languages. You can of course use the copying machine, and computers, and there is also a corner just for children's books,and reading sessions. This is an after school destination and when I was younger I always went here to get my mind right, and do my homework. On a rainy day when your broke it's also a great place to take out movies for free 99! What's a better price than that? (In Smyrna, GA years ago, my good friend the librarian orchestrated cooking classes. Free! And fun!) A neighbor told me about the NY Public Library's Culture pass. If you don't have a card, bring proof of residence to your local branch, and get one. If you already have a card, sign up for the Culture Pass. You gain free entree to a host of museums and other venues. While many museums waive admission on designated days, it can be a madhouse. With Culture Pass, you choose the date you want to go, and if passes are available, you're in. They reload options the beginning of each month. Nothing that interested me is available next week, but I'll be back in January and already signed up for the Cooper Hewitt. I noticed that they have passes for other venues like the Wollman Rink. The E. 79th Street library is smaller than some branches, but it fills my need! Know too, that you can borrow books from any branch in the system.

There are lots and lots of stairs and it is kind of noisy so I wouldn't recommend studying in there unless you blast your own music. There is random seating so you can bring your own laptop to study etc. It is very convenient for people who live in long Island City (like myself). I registered for a library card and I can print 20 pages for free at the computers (I think they're on the 3rd floor). There is also a time limit for using their computers. I think they do have events on the first floor in the auditorium but I have not been and kind of assumed the events were prob for kids. I would recommend checking out the library and getting a library card if you live in the area. If you're not from the area or live around then just observe the building outside unless you want to walk around the library (again..lots and lots of stairs lol).

I arrived on time, only to find out that there was a registration list that opened the day before. I was never informed during my previous class that registration was required. This was not how the program was handled in the past. If I had been properly informed, I would have registered a day in advance. What I find confusing is being told that the event was at capacity when the library had allowed more families to sign up than the stated capacity of 20. Some people who signed up did not even show up, yet I was still refused entry despite arriving on time with my baby. If the library allows additional families to register and those families would be allowed to enter if they showed up, it is unclear why my baby and I could not be accommodated when there were open spaces due to no-shows. The library attendant at the entrance was very kind and understanding. She allowed me to wait about 10 minutes to see if there was room and even asked her supervisor if my baby and I could join. However, the woman at the front desk refused to let us in. I traveled by ferry specifically for this program and then had to wait another 30 minutes for the next ferry. I wasted both my time and ferry fare because of poor communication and how this situation was handled. I understand that programs have capacity limits, but the registration process needs to be clearly communicated, especially when the process has changed from previous classes. The interaction at the front desk also felt unnecessarily rude and unwelcoming. I was told to come back for the next class, but registration for that class is not even open yet. After this experience, I will not be returning. I hope the library improves its communication and customer service so families with infants have a more welcoming experience.

We love living close to Webster Library and it has become a part of our regular routine. Our 2 kids…read morelove stopping by for books, and their children's program is also wonderful. I had a very disappointing experience at the 78 street York Avenue library today. I simply went in…read moreto use the computer, and asked the staff member for the procedure to sign in. Rather than being given straight forward directions on how to sign in, I was told abruptly that I needed to use a separate work station to sign in. I followed those directions, but nothing happened, and when I went back to tell her that, I was met with a tone of annoyance, as if I had done something wrong. I asked her politely, (to make sure it wasn't my own compute illiteracy), "was there any way for me to know that the receipt was supposed to come out"?, she muffled under her breath, "I guess I'll have to have it fixed. As if it was my fault! Finally, she told me when my computer would be available, and said "#5 at 3:30". I looked over to see if the stations were numbered, but they weren't. When I asked her, "how do I know which is number 5?" , she raised her head from the desk, pointed her finger and said aloud, "1, 2,3, 4, 5. Five was not in the same line as the others. I am a senior citizen, and a long time library user, and I don't think patrons should have to feel uncomfortable about asking questions about using their basic equipment, and reservation system. At another NYCPL branch, I had another interaction with a staff member who was not overly helpful, but got the job done. It seemed like she was just more reserved. This experience was quite different. I felt so uncomfortable that I left before my scheduled time, fearing that I might have to ask another question. The branch manager couldn't have nicer when I told her about my experience. I really appreciated that. Public libraries should be welcoming and accessible to everyone, including older patrons who may need a little help with navigating their computer system, especially for the first time.

I'm going to return to take photos. There's a quiet room. Employees are helpful and they have a restroom. I'm always saying there's no excuse for not getting the book you want. They will order it and have it ready for pick up at your local branch. Get the digital reader. They are adding to their digital library collection all the time. I'm posting some books. Some may have been banned. All are available for reading. If you can't find it I'll lend you my copy! Knowledge is Power!

Library staff is unhelpful, i.e., the staff goes out of its way to obstruct patrons from getting…read moretheir work done. Several commenters note that issue with printing - the staff raises it voice or states "that's not our policy" among myriad reasons to be unhelpful. The collective atmosphere is extremely toxic. A few patrons asked the chief library Nick Buron to address the issue and he retaliated against the patrons - further green lighting the toxic atmosphere and unhelpful behavior. Crude and vulgar flows from the top down. Queens library and Sunnyside branch is an example of why people lose trust in public institutions. Avoid this branch if you can.

This is a small library branch. It's convenient when you need a book to read or take classes…read morenearby. This branch was renovated in Fall of 2020. There is a computer room, classroom, children's room, and the various stacks of books and videos. This is a self checkout. If you are a Mets fan, go get yourself a new library card.
