It's a quiet space to study, I went there to cool off and work the whole summer. Small, but good.

Multi floors , plenty of books , computer area that was filled with folks with plenty of time to waste . Nice upgrade compared to the old interior which was old and full and the many shelves are filled with books with categories labeled clearly . My god daughter has fun doing her research and I took my cat nap with one eye opened keeping guard on my cuzs kid . Nice neighborhood library in Astoria that reminds me of the one in the Bronx that was my go to place when I was young and dumb . 4.5 stars on my yelp meter and maybe next time the librarian lady will crack a smile hopefully.

I have been here so many times over the years that I can't count the number of times I have visited…read morethe library. Anyway after the library reopened I went back several times to donate books and look around. To be honest many parts of the library were not touched esp the reading room and reception areas. The two librarians did not project a lot of energy and on my last visit there seemed to be absentee employees which is quite a shame. All in all I think they could have done much better renovations. Then what dilo I kn9w?

Reading is FUN-DA-MENTAL...okay that was kind of corny but I like this library, and it has made…read moresome great renovations to keep running the way it has. Libraries are vital to our society, and unfortunately many libraries in Queens and across the city are facing tax cuts ,and as a result face shortened hours, and cutting of programs and weekend hours. Librarians in this library have grown to know me, and my family at this library on a first name basis, and I love it. There are petitions and many other things that need to be done to keep small local libraries like this one open. The book selection is vast, and because it is the most diverse borough, and has languages spoken from over 150 countries there are also books, and DVDs in other languages. You can of course use the copying machine, and computers, and there is also a corner just for children's books, and reading sessions. This is an after school destination and when I was younger I always went here to get my mind right, and do my homework. On a rainy day when your broke it's also a great place to take out movies for free 99! What's a better price than that? When you can bust out the handy card, and get a free bag, a smile, and a "have a great weekend" with a thousand kilowatt smile?:) The cuts are making it hard on places like this, and we need to save the LIBRARIES love books, I love knowledge, I love people, and I love Queens for more information please call (718)-990-8585 or visit http://www.queenslibrary.org/...Queens get the Money! It boggled my mind during my brief stint in FL that some residents -- especially those with kids…read more-- didn't know that library cards are free, with story time and other programs geared to the community. (In Smyrna, GA years ago, my good friend the librarian orchestrated cooking classes. Free! And fun!) A neighbor told me about the NY Public Library's Culture pass. If you don't have a card, bring proof of residence to your local branch, and get one. If you already have a card, sign up for the Culture Pass. You gain free entree to a host of museums and other venues. While many museums waive admission on designated days, it can be a madhouse. With Culture Pass, you choose the date you want to go, and if passes are available, you're in. They reload options the beginning of each month. Nothing that interested me is available next week, but I'll be back in January and already signed up for the Cooper Hewitt. I noticed that they have passes for other venues like the Wollman Rink. The E. 79th Street library is smaller than some branches, but it fills my need! Know too, that you can borrow books from any branch in the system.

Our friends have three small children and they typically expect to do something fun on Saturdays. This day their Dad was working so we rescued their mother from having to deal with the little rascals alone. After a trip to Kids Day at a local park we headed for the weekly book sale at the 70th Street Library. The book sale takes place in the basement. If you buy four books you get one free. It's helping raise money for our library. My daughter spent $13.00 for four books. She just didn't see anything else she wanted so she gave the free book selection to our friend. To say more about the library I must say that the employees patience with the children is something special. It's inconvenient to use the bathroom because you have to get the key. Naturally the two small boys had to go and my daughter was elected to oversee the task! There wasn't anything to dry their hands so my daughter just said wipe them on your shirt. Otherwise besides the bathroom craziness this trip to the library was a success. Not that any of us need more books! Check out the Saturday book sale if you're in the neighborhood.

Incredibly, you're banned from occupying any space whatsoever on the spacious ground floor if you're an adult and not there with a child. The basement level is given over to a 2nd-hand bookstore; this leaves a 2nd floor where the most pleasant space by the windows is entirely roped off for teenagers and their tutors after 3 pm. The section can sit there almost entirely empty until closing (see photo from 4:30 pm midweek), but that's the deal. The explanation here is that "it's for their safety." (From whom, pray?) The unpleasant mid-section is mainly given over to computer use overseen by a library worker too often on the phone. Sure, there's a table accommodating 8 adults cheek by jowl...over by the toilets, and yes, you hear the toilets. Sure, an NYC library is allowed to have designated children's areas and designated teen areas. But what if those areas eat an entire floor and, to boot, a whole third of the remaining floor space in a library that is a meager two floors, with a vastly smaller second floor? It's hard to understand how this is allowed, given who pays the taxes on these places--it's not the under-12 set, and the role of Manhattan's libraries is not to fill in as de facto day camps.

Easy to get to, when you arrive you just want to go downstairs to the basement level where you will…read morefind TONS of books in different variety, also extremely reasonable price to buy. It was pretty busy, lots of movement in and out. Great stop for good buys!
