Quite a big building. More tall than wide.

My grade school teachers didn't fail me. I can in fact read! Unfortunately, these days reading isn't as relevant as it once was. So why go to a library? Well, Manhasset Public Library gives you a few literary reasons to make the trip, and then some. It impressed the pages out of me yesterday. Just in the category of ambiance helps to show the awesomeness of this place. Three floors with different sections (such as children's and young adult) spread all about. Throw in some quiet reading rooms and plenty of circular tables and seats as a final touch. The first floor holds a lot of flare for privacy and at moments it's amazing how quiet the place can be. You couldn't even hear a pin drop! Beyond the ambiance, I liked perusing the movie selection. They have a pretty elaborate collection of DVDs (for what's not on Netflix), along with CDs (music burning?) and even video games (for the gamer in us all). The truly impressive aspect of everything was the staff. The clerks at the front desk were extremely helpful, funny, friendly, personable, and just all around great people. It felt like I was a member of the community, one that had been frequenting the place for years. The final kicker? Working in the Manhasset school district gives you the ability to obtain a Manhasset library card (free of charge) with all privileges of any Manhasset patron. I've never heard of this before and decided why not? I grabbed a couple of "New" labeled DVDs that only Manhasset patrons can check out. It's good to have privileges. Overall, if you were dreaming of a perfect library, Manhasset Public Library might just fit the bill. It puts my actual public library to shame (maybe I'll review it one day). For now I'll consider coming by MPL more frequently and so should you to check out all it has to offer, and maybe even read a book!

Very quiet, clean, and we'll run. I do miss the old building but the new one is so beautiful it makes up for it. Features: Cafe Private study rooms DVDs Books on tape Video games Extensive career building material (Note the lady who runs the CD collection works for a professional publisher, that's how they have the amazing and always up to date CD selection !)

Beautiful interiors

A beautiful library. It is right off Shelter Rock Road and Northern Blvd. Quite easy to get to. The building is easily noticeable because it is so beautifully designed. It has three floors and a basement. The top floor is the kid's section. The second floor has study areas as well as a Teen Zone. The first floor has a well maintained magazine room and the basement has a clean and very polished restroom areas. Restrooms are located on each floor and an elevator serves the library both on the inside and a service elevator located at the lobby. The building is well stocked with many selections of books and magazines. Also WIFI is free for it's patrons. There are easily accessible computers on the first floor and in the Teen Zone. The staff is very professional although I sometimes feel they are on the snootier side and why not? This place is fancy! The decor is neutrals mixed with red/dark woods. There is a nice quiet, not an eery quiet, to this library that is very conducive to studying. If you need a private space, you can sign up for one of the study rooms which has a window, a table and a set of chairs for four or six that can close off a study group to be as rowdy as they want. They have a parking lot. Which only gives away the fact that I'm a New Yorker. This library is so useful and beautiful that I have to give it 5 stars even with a little snootiness.

I'm happy to see that this location is still going strong. I remember being a new mom looking for…read morethings to do with my kiddos, and repeatedly bringing them here when they were very young for a number of Junior events. Everything from craft events, to read alouds, and Lego builds. Each staff member I've met here has been very friendly and super helpful in finding anything I needed. This is a great place to read, study, or just have a quiet moment. When I've come to this location, I always find it organized, and clean ... something very welcoming when you are a busy parent! The attached Starbucks cafe upstairs is great for grabbing a light refreshment. Baristas behind the counter can help you make drinks that meet the familiar Starbucks standard. Cookies and pastries can be heated to order on site. Pro tip, almost always with your store purchase, you will get a coupon for a dollar off something in the cafe. What a pleasant surprise to have a sweet treat! (Shout out to Tyler for trying to help me locate a periodical!)

On an annual trip to NYC, I decided I would visit bookstores and take in all I could. B&B was right…read moreby my hotel, and I was delighted to find a comfortable room full of baseball memorabilia and a great variety. They specialize in 19th and 20th century English and American literature, which means you're going to see a lot of titles you're familiar with. I stopped in late in their day, so I wasn't surprised to be the only one there, but the team gave me space, answered very basic questions I had, and - gasp - LET ME TOUCH THE BOOKS. This is far from a stuffy environment, and when I finally convince my partner that I need that very expensive piece that has F. Scott Fitzgerald's music for Princeton, I know exactly where I'll go.

5 minutes before B&B books was closing, I buzzed the room located on the third floor to see if they…read morewould let me in "just to look." Well, 45 minutes later, I was still oohing and awing at the marvelous selection of first edition books they have to offer. This is the largest selection (aside from corporate-owned Bauman's) of rare books I've seen that include the dust jacket- a collectors actual dream. It's the biggest breath of fresh air to find a rare book store owned by a woman, and to be treated like a human being. I normally get side-eyed from rare bookstore owners and some of the conversations I've had sound like: "May I see the Portrait of a Lady in the case?" "All of these books are at least $100.00 and up." ".....I know." "Do you have any Wilde?" "The book about the woman hiking alone? That's too new to be in our shop, Barnes & Noble would have it." "I'm talking about the 1800s poet." "Oh." I take it personally because while I look like a millennial who doesn't know what she's talking about, I treasure my rare books like they're my children. Sunday stayed AN EXTRA HOUR at her store while I looked and answered all of my questions that I had, never making me feel rushed or unwelcome. After selecting a first edition Fitzgerald, she wrapped it in bubble wrap for my travels back home and gave me an updated book with all of the rare book sellers in the country.
