This review is for Allison…read more After my parents umpteenth time indoctrinating me that " There are golden houses in books ",( Chinese proverb), reading becomes one of my joys (escapes). Now, I have become that garrulous mom to my own kid. LOL! Going to library and borrowing books my son and my indulgence. Today again, we want to coddle ourselves. As we walk in, it seems to us no one except Allison sitting in the back working on something looks like data entry ( Actually, there is one person sits behind a checkout computer later on we find out). Allison drops whatever she is doing and walks up to us asks if we need help. My son asks if he can get a book called" Statistic". Allison right way checks on her screen and unfortunately, it s out. My son face shows a slightly downhearted. But as soon as Allison says she may find something else for him. He becomes hearty as always. Two of them hit off in no second! Allison speaks "their language"!!! Whoa!!! They take off to the upper level section while I sit down on a shallow green cozy sofa resting and checking my Yelp for some lunch inspiration. My son comes up to me:"Mama, LOOK! These are so HEAVY! Like 8lbs! Just like the fish you just bought!" LOL! Then he camels his joy to the check out window. There we find out a lady behind down under. As we try to figure out how to safely carry out these treasure, Allison AGAIN comes by and gives a paper bag to my son.... At the moment I think this lady must have substantial passion toward her job and she has extremely high EQ and IQ. Allison also sweetly informs me that the books can be extended if not finished in two weeks. I smile back at her. I know my boy devours books he heart for. Thank you Allison for enriching my son and showing him altruistic tendency.

The entire Children's room was decorated with the Harry Potter theme, which was awesome for HP fans. The staffs were friendly, informative and welcoming! The problem was that there was no formal parking lot for library patrons and the location wasn't the best. We had a great time visiting this library.

I came to this library for the first time for toddler open play and I thought it was great! A lot of natural light comes in and it's a big space for open play with a ton of toy options and a table just for coloring. The one negative is once open play is over (about an hour), they put away all the toys. I've been to other libraries where they leave the toys out for the children to play with as long as the library is open. The parking lot is very big and there were plenty of spots when I went, which was a weekday at 4:30pm. I liked how the open play was in the middle of the day as early times don't work for my family's schedule.

While it is good that we have a library in the area, it is not useful if at almost every table in…read morethe main seating area has teachers conducting tutoring sessions with students, sometimes one after another, and they spend the entire time talking. This afternoon for example, there are 10 tables that seat 4, and these teachers are tutoring 1 student and they take up an entire table, and those of us who actually are here to use the library for research have no place to sit. There are rooms available, including conference rooms, and they should be sitting there. I am here every week and have to suffer with sitting in an armchair, balancing my computer on my lap, in front of the main desk, as the women behind the counter sit and talk about vacations, shopping, and other frivolous talk. There are also people sitting in armchairs, on their phones talking, with no regard for those around them. The worst part is the employee who is supposed to be the "security guard" - if he works for the town, he does nothing to help make sure that it is actually quiet in the library, and the workers who are actually responsible for the library walk back and forth, not asking people to be quiet or step into the foyer to use their phone. Is this what the library has become? A place to socialize, teachers to come and make $50 for 30-minute tutoring sessions while those who want quiet can't find it here, or even a place to sit? I find it truly disturbing that I cannot even find the email for the Head Librarian that is in charge of the Shelter Rock Public Library on their website, and the link at the bottom of the page to "Email us" does not even work???

I actually gasped when I walked in the first time after they reopened. Everything is neat and tidy with each section clearly marked. The Teen Zone is my personal favorite - all cozy and fun in its own space on the main floor. The staff are great and more than willing to find answers to your questions. You sometimes have to bounce to different specialists for certain questions, but I've always been able to find someone who could help me with what I need. I'm glad I live close by. It's a great excuse to visit this charming little place every so often!

Newly renovated Great Neck Library at Bayview is very beautifully done. Many seats available for…read morereaders and good space between seats. Outdoor seating is insight, and is probably available when it gets warmer... Besides the regular library facilities and activities are classes, I must mention the bright and airy space, the high ceiling for the main floor, many computers on first and second floors, huge selection of dvds, and free WiFi are reasons of this one better than other Great Neck Libraries. If you don't find your book, you can look for it through the network and request it to be sent to this library. I find this library very pleasant and quiet. As the kids room and multiple purpose rooms are downstairs with doors near the restrooms, I don't hear much of kids playing sound when I am on the main floor. You can be pretty productive and get some mind intensive jobs done in here.
