This place is a hidden gem. Nice for a stroll or just want to take in the fresh air and scenery. There is a pond that you can walk around with a bridge to one side. There is a small maze in the garden that over looks the lake. There are benches there for maybe a picnic. Just a beautiful scenery all around the property. The house I believe is closed right now but I was told the bottom floor is more like a museum and the top floor has offices for non profit agency. However all are welcomed there to take in the scenery and enjoy some nature.

I must be missing out on a list of these kind of places in NY. Anyway somehow I never knew this place existed until looking at a map of Roslyn then googling it. I am dying to come back and see more. My son had to much fun at the entrance that we basically went nowhere else. Such a pretty place and barely any people. This is my dream place. It's practically a secret since most people seem to have no idea what I'm talking about. I prefer to keep it that way lol it's nice and secluded. Anyway as soon as it isn't super hot out I expect to be a weekly visitor here with my son.

Great place to relax. It's so nice & quiet here. Barely anyone here. It's like having your own estate. The view is beautiful. The grounds are open to public from dawn till dusk all year long. Inside, there's a pond with a stone bridge, gardens, & an old mill. If you want to check out the house, there's a guided tour every Thursday at 2pm & 3pm. We like this place. It could've been 5 stars. 4 stars because of the place is not really well maintained. This place would be a lot more beautiful if it's properly maintained. If you want to get away from the noise, stop by & just enjoy the silence...

My family and I love this park! It is near and dear to our hearts because it is the last park we brought our dog to before he passed away. We could tell that he enjoyed how quite and peaceful this place is. He sat there admiring the scenery and taking in everything. The beautiful sunset and overall ambiance was perfect for taking pictures and just enjoying all that nature has to offer. It is a beautiful park and I 100% recommend it to EVERYONE :)

Romantic, secluded, little get away. Their aren't really many people here when I go and it's smaller than other estates on Long Island but it makes up for it with interesting architecture and a mysterious allure that feels personal enough to keep me coming back to look again. Very picturesque and thought out. I hope one day http://www.friendsofcedarmere.org/history-of-cedarmere.html receives enough funding to bring people into the building across the lake on guided tours. Their is still old machinery and interesting artifacts inside but unfortunately it is off limits to the public. They just rebuilt the walk way to it so you can walk up to the door and the stone they used has a lot of beautiful pyrite, giving it even more mystique. Obviously a lot of history comes with this place but the estate only gives 2 tours on Thursday! 1 day a week starting at 2pm. Either way it's well worth it to just walk around taking pictures, collect your thoughts or watch some frogs swim around the Lilly pads. I met a guy with two dogs here and a broken leg. He was really kind and I think he was part of the estate because he knew a lot about the place. His dogs were so adventurous and it was nice to see one of them swimming in the lake like it was no big deal. (lol)

What a great place to have in small town USA! I have seen amazing concerts there, this year alone: ranging from Ian Anderson, New Riders of the Purple Sage, Darlene Love, Paul Reiser, David Bromberg, Andrea Markovicci For one of the shows, I had injured my knee and couldn't walk easily. The staff went out of their way to make sure I was able to access a seat with a cane. I am so grateful to them for making an aisle seat happen for me. Every show gets better and better! Can't beat Landmark anywhere else on Long Island! Parking can be found on the street and across the street at the Library. There are about 40 seats in the balcony and another 350 in the orchestra. Every seat is comfy and gives a wonderful view of the very large stage.

The gardens are beautifully maintained, the grounds are peaceful and relaxing, and every path seems to lead to another picture-perfect view. Based on many recent positive visitor reviews, people consistently praise the stunning landscapes, historic mansion, tranquil atmosphere, and endless photo opportunities. I'm giving it 5 stars because it's truly a beautiful place to spend a couple of hours. Whether you want to leisurely stroll through the gardens, take lots of photos, or do a little of both, about two hours feels just right. There's also plenty of free parking, which makes visiting easy. While the current admission price of $22 per adult feels a bit high, the beauty of the property and the overall experience still make it worth the visit. Throughout the year they host great special events, including classic car shows and an incredible illuminated pumpkin trail before Halloween that has become a Long Island favorite.

Instead, they give an "augmented reality" audio tour which is kind of hit or miss. The house was preserved for the historical significance of the Townsend family, one of which was a spy for George Washington. I didn't feel there was a ton of information on the family though. Pointing their phone at the different objects in a room turned on audio about them, but only a couple of rooms in the actual house were interactive. The rest didn't have signs, and one loan employee was around to answer questions at the end. The exhibit in the visitor center was nice though. I just don't think the AR experience was really up to replacing a person, both in amount of information and the uncanny valley, unnerving portraits. There is street parking and a nearby lot that are free on weekends. The gift shop is minimal. It was an okay spot to visit, but I would recommend coming on Sunday or whenever they offer actual tours to get a more thorough understanding of the house and the history of the people who lived here.

That means that when you walk through the buildings, you scan the cell phone device on important paintings and artifacts and they talk to you with further information about who or what they are. The small building that contains the entrance is packed with paintings, dioramas, documents and artifacts. Next you walk to the main house, built in the 1730's, and housing the Townsend family. At the time of the Revolutionary War, Samuel had to make room for a British colonel. In spite of the fact that he sympathised with the patriots, he maintained good relations with his "Guest." At the time of the war, the house had eight rooms. One of his sons was one of the leaders of the Culpepper Spy Ring, Placing the home on the National Registry of Historic Places. Each room was elegantly decorated, with the exception of the space for the enslaved housekeeper. In spite of the fact that we didn't get a formal tour, the staff member tagged along with us and kept up a spirited conversation - even giving us a bonus look at the Victorian wing which doubled the size of the structure. The house is said to be haunted, of course. Very highly recommended. The full set of photos can be found at https://www.flickr.com/photos/terryballard/albums/72177720323110655
