We passed by this park because we were in the area. We didnt have much time to explore but from What we have seen looks like a sprawling park with so much to see. We didn't have trouble parking on a Saturday afternoon. My cousin has an empire pass for the season so our entrance was free. We check out the barns, the enclose garden & walk around a bit. We will come back in the fall, and check out the horses & walk the trail leading to the beach.

I could have SWORN I posted a review of this WONDEFUL gem in the NYS Parks crown years ago, but if not, I'm waaaaaaaaaaaay overdue!! I grew up in Huntington but somehow never made it here until YEARS after moving away. Long Island, and Huntington in general have become SO congested and BUSY, that finding a spot to "get away from it all" is not just an option for a fund getaway, it's almost a necessity. Whether you're here for a quick walk, or really want to get into some longer, more scenic hikes, you'll be surprised to discover how many wonderful options there are here to explore!! We took a looooooooong perimeter hike on a beautiful fall day, and hit the woods, the beach, and lots of scenic stops in between, totaling nearly 7 miles!! If you're even CLOSE to this neck of the woods, DON'T miss this WONDERFUL gem in NYS' state park crown!!

My wife and I specifically went here to have a nice tolerable hike from their entrance going to the beach/pond area. There is an entrance/parking fee. You can follow different trails in this area, they provide you with a map at the entrance which was very helpful in exploring the area. The highlights of this park is the farm/barn area, an enclosed garden, paved and unpaved hiking trail, horse stable, main house, summer, winter house, and the beach and the pond. We decided to take the trail which is just a little more than 4 miles out and back, most of the trail are shaded with trees. It is a wonderful hike, the beach area has big rocks, good for a photo opportunity, and rest. After the hike we ate at a picnic area near the barn, we brought some food to replenish ourselves. This was really a good day to hike in this park.

    good walk but sweaty

Walk was nice but lowkey sweaty as seen in the photo below. I would recommend eating and drinking before you go. 6'7 stars

I bought the Empire pass this year and Caumsett was on my list of state parks to visit. $8 per car entry fee without the pass. I went to the fisherman side of them park and it was a long unshaded walk in the hot sum. The beach is beautiful, a two mile walk each way. Lots of parking and I look forward to visiting the other side next time.

Today was a perfect weather for a visit . Although I want to see it during foliage season, seeing it during summertime brings a different joy though. Walking the trail to the beach/ pond via the scenic drive is the easiest and favorite path of recent walkers, bikers and joggers. We decided to take same path. It is a Shaded paved road with different stops ( garden, stable, main house) that anyone will enjoy. I admired the huge stable house that we passed by. Along the way, there are lots of benches that can be seated in if feel like needing a rest. The master garage transformation to visitors restroom is such a good decision the park made, a resting place right before visiting the main house. I find the 1.5 mile walk to the main house an enjoyable one. A wonderful view of the ocean from the house backyard is a treat. The next half mile of the trail is to see a full view of the Long Island sound. The view is gorgeous. Relaxing and peaceful. We have the option to take a different trail to go to the fisherman drive end point but the my husband is not into it since it is an open road. We decided to go back to the parking lot using the same path as it is shaded. There is a cafe, restroom and picnic room by the entrance. Definitely returning.

This is probably one of the hidden gems. If you feel like you've been cooped up at home for too long or you just simply want some fresh air. This is the spot! But please, PLEASE wear a mask. There are SOME people out there who just thinks they are above it all ... It is, what it is ~ If you're feeling for a stroll, walk, sprint, run, heck it's even bike friendly here! Definitely lots of area to cover and the people are fairly distant between one another which is a plus. Some tips! Make sure to bring your own bottle of water to keep hydrated. If you have low blood sugar or just need to refuel definitely bring a bag of snacks if needed. There are bathrooms and a few vending machines but not much! Overall it's a great place to explore!

Huge state park with many areas to walk and go. There is a paved loop for easy walking or biking, an equestrian area and horse paths, and a "rougher" path/trail with more elevation and rigor. Not for the basic fitness level if you are on bike. The rougher trail takes you right to the beach for spectacular cliff views and water views north. Very peaceful and serene if you take the unpaved way back up the cliff. The paved path gets extremely busy, especially on a nice day.

Beautiful park and the end of the hike is spectacular view. It's about a 2 mile hike from the parking lot to the end of the trail, so it's a 4 mile round trip. Well worth it! I can image what it will look like during fall foliage, must be very colorful.

Have been going here for a few decades now. The down side for us was the no dog policy. The up side is that this is a vast, well groomed park that is an easy ride from downtown Huntington. There is one colossal tree about halfway from the parking lot to the mansion that always takes your breath away. Although it is a year round park, I always think of this as a place that really shines in the fall. When you get to the mansion, there is a beautiful view town a slope to the Sound. Even though it is a popular place, it is so vast that you never feel crowded. My last visit last fall helped lose them a star. They were doing construction, and without maps, I found myself getting confused about the layout. Since it was a weekday, I didn't have to pay, but that also meant that there was nobody to give me a map. I look forward to a happier visit next time.

Such a beautiful state park on Long Island, on wonderful historic site. I have been popping in and out of this park [for the past decade] to enjoy the hike trails that lead into water overlooks and beach views. On a brisk winter morning with some great sun but wind whipping this location was still loosely busying not scaring the strong seeking some peace, tranquility and outdoor exercise [me hike training this March 2020 Saturday morning]. I can't wait to continue to come back and enjoy it all over and over again. *With the whipping wind and all couldn't help but to take advantage of the 'Titanic' moment off the bow...or in this case the overlook stand area. :)

This is our favorite getaway from the city to go for a walk in nature. We rent a Zipcar and go for a nice long walk through meadows, woods, and along the beach. There are paved paths for bicycles and strollers, but we enjoy the dirt trails for a good socially distant walk. There's an old mansion, a large horse stable, and a small pond at the park - plus miles of untouched beach (no swimming unfortunately). Our favorite hike is to walk across the large field towards the horse stables then take one of the unpaved trails in the woods to the beach area where people can fish. It's a beautiful beach with clear water, sand, lots of "barnacle" shells, rocks, and nice views of Long Island Sound. We pack a lunch to eat on the beach- we can usually find a large rock or fallen tree trunks to sit on. The boys enjoy finding flat skipping stones to try out on the water. Free parking and clean public restrooms. A little over 1 hour drive from downtown.

Caumsett State Historic Park is a perfect place for a weekend getaway in NYC and it's not crowd at all during our visit on a Sunday morning around 9:30am. The state park is beautiful with amazing lake views and great arrangement. However, there are lots of facilities including restroom and trials that are closed down due to COVID-19. The trails are flat, easy and relaxed for beginners, kids or elders so it's family-friendly. There is also a huge and magnificent lawn for rest. The parking lot is also under construction so the spaces are limited. We highly recommend to visit earlier to beat the crowd.

Walking among the towering hundred-year-old trees felt magical, almost like stepping back in time. The beach views were incredibly serene, and we even got to witness two deer running freely through the forest, chasing each other. This place is more than just a historic site, it gives you an awe-inspiring feeling. Between the peaceful scenery, rich history, and natural beauty, it felt like we were transported to another time. Turns out, it was the home of 26th President, Theodore Roosevelt, from 1885 until his death in 1919. The house and its surrounding farmland became the primary residence of Theodore and Edith Roosevelt for the rest of their lives. Sagamore Hill became known as the "Summer White House" during the seven summers (1902-1908) Roosevelt spent there as President. Turns out, Sagamore Hill is also an animal preserve, too. "Teddy," being quite the lover of animals, stated that forever and ever, animals are ALWAYS welcome on his 83 acres of property. Yours, mine, anybody's. FOREVER. That is a really cool thing. Sadly, we arrived after 5 p.m., so the buildings were closed, but there were plenty of things to see outdoors. Beautiful, well kept grounds. Well, besides helping the DEA solve the identity of who Heisenberg really was, Walt Whitman was a pioneering figure in American literature--a poet, essayist, and journalist, best known for his iconic "Leaves of Grass". He grew up on Long Island, left school at eleven, and became a teacher and journalist. He served in the Union army as a nurse during the Civil War. His poetry innovated the way people wrote poems, using a free verse "conversational" style. Th Walt Whitman Birthplace complex has two buildings - a museum and the house where he was born. The museum has a wonderful timeline display that takes you through his lifetime with photos and text. There is a gift shop and a small theater on site, and you can take photos of everything.
