Service was a bit slow during our visit, and the food menu leans heavily toward fried snacks. Our group ended up heading elsewhere for dinner because there were very few vegetarian options. I'd definitely come back for the drinks and ambiance, but I'd plan to eat before or after.

I arrived at around 5:00 on a recent Saturday, and since I was meeting two people, I was shown to a comfy booth. I was excited to take advantage of the Happy Hour menu, but it wasn't provided. I assumed maybe our server was waiting for the rest of my party to show up to mention the Happy Hour menu, but he never did. It was a weird move that struck me as kind of gross and sleazy. It also didn't help that he was hardly present at all, which meant a long wait between drinks. The drinks were tasty, at least. They were far from strong, however, which is certainly not what one associates with a tiki bar. We also got a fried rice dish and their coconut shrimp, both of which were quite good. The portions seemed a little small for the prices, so that was a bit of a bummer. The Shameful Tiki Room was far from the super fun experience I remembered, but it's possible they were having an off day. I'll check it out again in another few years, probably.

This is my hood, and I should know where to go right? So as we did the slow walk up Queen, we first stopped at Bar Karma. An absolute great spot for a night out with friends with an alluring curb view and attractive staff in sexy attire with their clipboards ready to book you a booth and bottle service, and happy to chat us up. This wasn't what we were after, more specifically a night cap after an epic soccer match at BMO Field, along with catching the end of a rousing block party dance off at my local parking lot, so we kept walking. Next spot that looked good on the block was The Dime, and I pointed out this is where I'd bring my 905 friends who were visiting as they would feel right at home with the Colonial style and predictable drink and food menu. We went to the back and saw the nice, well-behaved back patio with bar, check! Then we plopped down at the very front window which was open to the warm humid air and sidewalk. It was ok, but it looked like I'd have to get up to get service, and was it worth it... hmmmm, then I asked her if she'd been to the Tiki bar next door, No?? Ok, follow me. Now we're talking!... past the punk rock bouncers (for the Bovine Sex Club live music space on the main floor) left past the Queen West girl at a desk giving us the nod to go up the stairs past the gaudy-good Tiki art going up the walls of the big staircase. I've been here a few times before and always enjoyed the time in Queen West taking a break from the street. In contrast with the dime next door, the place has energy and warmth. Not just because of the sultry night air (it actually felt like we were indoors) but because of the crowd there. It's always lit with a nice din to make you realize you're in one of the most vibrant cities in the world. I like being in bars where there could be a fight breaking out at any time, it just makes sense on a Saturday night when emotions can be brought to the surface. They offer typical kitchy Tiki drinks, have the kitchy Tiki art on the wall, and the two-tops with tall chairs and a nice big umbrella overhead cuz you're on the rooftop, it just feels like the right ending for an epic day of enjoying so much the city offers.

Operated by Bovine Sex Club, Tiki Bar is only open during the summers where they offer a selection of tropical drinks (cocktails, beers, spirits, and non-alcoholic options). Food, such as tacos and guac, are available where it is provided by a pop-up vendor. The space does require you to navigate a set of stairs and washrooms are not accessible as well. My coworkers and I stopped by Tiki Bar on a Wed evening looking for after work drinks. Upon arrival at the bar, the place was empty. The vibes were great - all the decor made it feel like you were transported to somewhere tropical. It was also great that the weather was beautiful as well! There are plenty of tables to sit at and the atmosphere is relaxing and chill. Service wise, there was only one staff/bartender working today so he did mention this to my party. First round of drinks he was nice enough to take our order at the table, however, you also have the option of ordering at the bar as well. The bill was settled at the end where we paid for our individual drinks each. During our time there we never felt rushed and it was nice to be in the quiet space. There were also some customers who came to get drinks as well but other than that it wasn't busy for a beautiful Wed evening. Drinks wise, there was no happy hour deal (you'd think there would be but oh well!). The cocktails were priced at $18 (+tax) each. Mocktails were $13 (+ tax). Beers and other liquors were around $8-9 (+ tax) each. I ordered a pisco sour (Pisco brandy, lemon, egg whites, and bitters) which was made well and tasted great! Another drink my coworkers liked was the pineapple yuzu old fashion. Overall, relaxing tropical vibes from this rooftop oasis located along Queen near Bathurst. No happy hour deals but the drinks and service were great!

Honestly wasn't the biggest fan of the fried chicken as I found it lackluster. I really enjoyed the aloha burger though. Chorizo burgers are definitely more unique and I really liked the flavor and the grilled pineapple (I will always argue in favour of pineapple on burgers and pizzas). We also ordered drinks and they were not watered down which I appreciate. Overall presentation was A+, great place for a casual date with the girls or your partner.

I decided to get a Blue Hawaii cocktail, which was beautifully presented to me. My friends also enjoyed their cocktails, and the time to wait for a table went by fairly quickly. We decided to share an order of their vegetarian baos, which were pretty good and surprisingly hearty. We asp shared an order of their tempura corn fritters, which were also hearty and tasty. I decided to get their jackfruit fried rice, which was unfortunately pretty lackluster. I felt like it needed something, perhaps more salt or soy sauce. Other than that, we had a lovely meal here and the restaurant itself was beautiful. A fun place to go out to if you happen to be in Toronto.

Very nondescript outside facade - no sign telling you what it is other than a small "BSC" (for Bovine Sex Club) painted near the door. Hard to miss though as the exterior is made up a punk rock style sculpture of rusted bikes & other assorted ephemera. The interior is similar, visually. Great sound system & chill vibes pervade throughout. Weirdly the stage is right in the entrance of the club, on your left, with a long bar along the right side, heading back. Great, crowd, great location in cool area with lots of restaurants & plenty of parking - both on the street up to 2 hours & extended parking for a flat-rate of CA$20 (~$14 USD) from 6:00pm until the next morning, just 2 blacks away.

Without attempting to try to present a front of a time long gone, The Bovine simply exists today as it once did in that time long ago, before Smokes stickers, before iPhones, back when people would just go to a bar to talk with those they didn't know the morning prior. Bring cash though, unless you're looking to make some big orders, because credit card is a minimum fifty-dollar spend.

My home fries and toast (on brown bread) were just as good. A couple of larger groups of people came and went while we were there; they were seated in the upper section on the opposite side of the venue to the entrance. The news was showing on the 2 big screen TVs that I saw. We had good service and once again, my overall impression of the quality of our visit was great.

The chicken wings were tasty but a little small, but at least it was wing nite for value. If you are in the area totally visit Steelers, even if you are a Bills fan.
