I had an excellent time here. The Flying Monkeys Bar and Grill was a first time and repeated experience because of the friendly staff, fun learning experience and a repeat stop over the course of my week's stay in Barrie. I enjoyed two of the Bar drinks, but The Paranormal was stand alone the best drink of the night. I like the decorations and design of this Brewery. The ambiance is very welcoming. read more

Have tried flying money juicy a$$ beer but have never been to the brewery before. Loved the ambiance of the bar - live music every night with Christmas decorations everywhere. The beers were amazing and so affordable. I particularly enjoyed #9 and #13 and bought a few cans to take home. We ordered fries to share as well which were tasty. I will visit again! Awesome spot. Great beers and they offer a flight. The flight only has 4 beers, but they serve big pours. I can't remember the name of them, but my favorite was the beer that had the rosehip, hibiscus, and raspberry - amazing!!! We also got the poutine and it was very tasty. The service was great and even the other guests at the bar were super fun to chat with. It's definitely a locals bar, but they ship their beers all over the world which is awesome. The best part to me was the vibe. Kind of grungy (but clean), eclectic, with super random pieces and drawings. I loved it! read more

We went on a very busy day, Canada Day. It was wonderful. Very loud because of the live music but still very enjoyable. The nachos and wings were delicious. The service was great even though I think they were all very busy. The most important thing though...the beer is fantastic. The seltzer was good. I returned today, and purchased a 6-pack of the Juicy Ass. So, so good. Highly recommend for beer and food and the fun atmosphere. read more

Flying Monkeys Craft Brewery - Vegan nachos and fried chicken sandwich, both excellent. - Breweries Near Me - Barrie, Ontario

Visited one of my favourite breweries up north at Flying Monkey Craft Brewery on Labour Day long weekend. So blessed that they open on public holidays ^^ The food, beer, and service here are always fantastic! They also sell their own merch and fridge in the front - got ourselves some super cool graphic tees, and a few beers and seltzers to go :) My favourite go-to is to get their beer flights (4 x 5 oz. samplers)! 2 of my favourite beers on tap: 12 Minutes Of Destiny * Rose-hips, Hibiscus, and Raspberry Lager Chocolate Manifesto * Imperial Triple Chocolate Milk Stout The honey garlic wings are juicy and tender. It comes with a side of salad or fries (you can upgrade it to a poutine I think), plus veggie sticks (get the blue cheese dipping sauce!). The Yardbird buttermilk fried chicken burger was also nicely done, and I really enjoyed the fries! I will definitely come back again :) read more

Amazing amazing amazing ! Our eyes were pulled to every corner of the funky establishment. We were seating very fast for a party of 8. To our surprise they had tons of games in each table .Perfect for the kids to give the adults some actual "adult time" and conversation. Adults all got flights! I wish I remember the names but the Chocolate something was AMAZING! We bought 2- 6 packs home;which they conveniently have them packaged in the fridge at the exit. The charcuterie board was delicious with different sauces to compliment the sausages. We also got wings. My favorite were the honey wings !!!!Very well cooked and seasoned . We came here straight from tubing and so glad we found this gem .Take the time to explore and go downstairs to each bathroom stall.Sounds funny ,I know but all decorated differently and one even had a pick a book -give a book shelf (Make sure to sanitize ) You also can pick into the beer lab and cylinders through the windows . read more

This a super cool brewery with a festive feel and dynamite food. I had one of their seltzers which was refreshing. We also got a pretzel, burger, chicken sandwich and a quinoa bowl with chicken and tofu . The bowl was unique and flavorful. The pretzel was also fantastic. The vibe of this place is super cool too. It's just a bit pricey which is why I gave it 4 stars. read more

Absolutely love this place. The staff is fantastic. Shoutout to Abby (Abbey?) who helped me out at the bar. She gave some great suggestions on drinks and really took great care of me. The ambiance is so cute and fun and has a never ending amount of stuff to look at! The food was great. I had chicken wings and fries... now I'm a self proclaimed snob when it comes to chicken wings and these are absolutely delicious! The fries were also really good and tasted homemade and wonderful. Loved the fact they had live music on a Sunday afternoon. Really can't recommend coming here enough! read more

Really interesting selection! While traveling, I like to order flights at the local craft brewery, and this location offered a really wide variety. I think I tried a lager, an IPA, a dark beer, and one fruity sour, and all were flavourful but not overwhelming. They offer flight-sized beers individually, really allowing you to mix and match. Decor is fun and distinctive, and they appear to offer tours of the brewing machinery as well. read more

Great spot to hit up if you're looking to have a drink or good eats. This place is unique in so many ways, from the decor to the drink names. The service is excellent - friendly and attentive. They offer live music daily which is always a treat. What's even better is that they have gluten free drink options or an option for those who aren't lovers of beer - hard seltzers. You'll have to check out the names of those - priceless! Definitely a spot worth checking out! read more

This was a really awesome place that has incredible service and great ambiance! The food is excellent and the place was a fun experience.

The atmosphere is pub like. This is a place that brews their own craft beer and offers tours every hour on Saturday and Sunday. When you walk in you sit down flick the switch to have your order taken. If you're not sure about the drink the servers are nice giving a sampler. I did not rate this 5 stars because despite their jovelmlight switch idea at the table, we had a hard time to flag any service. Light switch on, crazy waving hands. I suspect it's the table location, we were seated right by the TV screen of drinks. When you sit there it may be difficult to see the table light. read more

We enjoyed the chicken sandwich and pickle pizza. I thought the chicken sandwich would have more of a sauce but it was pretty good anyways. They had a good selection of beers for flights. There is not much choice for non alcoholic drinks, however it is a brewery restaurant. read more

We sat outside this restaurant and had great service! We started with a flight of beers to decide which one we wanted. We also ordered their dill pickle flat bread pizza and their version of poutine. I've been a fan of their beers since first starting to drink them from LCBO during my visits to Toronto. Finally took the trek to the brewery all the way from Western Australia and do not regret a moment. The tour was great and very informative. As someone relatively new to home brewing myself it was awesome to see everything work on a larger scale. Can't say I was huge on their rotating beers on tap but I always love the regulars. Was fantastic to have sparklepuff from the keg. read more

I love Flying Monkeys! Everything here so colorful, full of energy. This place feels like an adult "Disneyworld" than a brewery. But Flying Monkeys is definitely the happiest place in the world for beer lovers! Free tour! Free Tasting! All these colorful glasswares, t shirts.... Free beers...How many did I try? Every single one aside from the special editions... This is better than Disney!! Definitely worth a visit when you in Barrie! Maybe one day my Yelp friends can see those monkeys.. all he needs to do is drink a whole bottle of Matador Double IPA (ABV 11.3%)! read more

Bonus *s for place reminding me of university AND male server with glasses. Why can't there be a server like him at each place I go to? Confession: I'm still figuring out whether or not I like beer. I know that I like most ciders, not really a fan of sours, but beer itself is...questionable for me. I certainly don't like the heavy stuff that sits in your stomach like a loaf of bread. Had a flight of 5 beers, server's choice after I told him what I liked. The flavours were really good, but a couple of them, were on the tart side for me. I don't really like tart flavours. I asked server about a couple of the other beers they had and this guy, without me asking, goes and gets samples for me. Now that is SERVICE! Since the vibe is more relaxed than a bigger city, not pretentious or intimidating, I think Flying Monkeys is a must-visit if you're in Barrie! Plus, if you go on the weekends, they offer free tours of the brewery. read more

Ok so admittedly I did not have any of the food but am rating this on the basis of atmosphere and beer, both of which were excellent. Absolutely love the decor here. There's tons of things here to peruse, examine and take pictures of. Even all the bathrooms are interesting. The selection of beer is great. They have their regular beer that you can find in stores, but also have a selection of taps that are interesting and innovative. Great choice in both darker and lighter brews. Some sours were interesting as well. read more

Gord and I spent some time this afternoon on the patio of Flying Monkeys. Gord's a fan of craft beer and he likes their beer. They renovated and as of the beginning of July now serve food. It's changed a lot since I was last there. It's really fun! They sell beer onsite along with swag. They brew their beer onsite. We sat on the patio, which is right on Dunlop Street E. I had a couple Wild Patty Crazy Berry, which I discovered at last summer's Roundhouse Craft Beer Festival. There are album covers on the way to the washrooms. The bathrooms have different themes. On the way back up the stairs are the words to American Pie. I'm looking forward to going back! read more

Great customer service! My second time here and the staff has been always friendly and accommodating. Between 2 of us we shared 3 flights, and got to try almost every one of their beers on tap at the time. Worth going for all the beers you won't find at the LCBO! read more

I give this 5 stars because Itts more a bar lounge place than a restaurant It's hangout join to go to with your friends tHey have great brewed beer on site which you will not find anywhere else-I highly recommend you try their selection Food: The wings in blue cheese sause is so delish but not if youre watching calories this baby is loaded with cheese it's delish. But a minute on the lips is a lifetime on tHe hips. So watch how much of that dip you consume. The burgers are great I like sides available too lots to choose from. I like their salads they were good. (Lots of sauce though) The appetizers: I don't recommend the cheese dip -they use mozzarella cheese which makes the dip really sticky and not really a dip more of a molasses -looks gross eating it hard to "dip" the nachos into it you gotta kinda scoop it....looks lIke snot -stay away from this ones read more

So happy we decided to try this place out! The service was good, and our waiter was so kind. He even suggested a few items for us, and checked up on us often. The food was delicious! We got the jerk chicken nachos, and honey garlic chicken wings. The jerk chicken nachos were amazing!! I got a flight of 4 beers, you get to choose the 4 flavours that you want. I chose Smashbomb Atomic, Antigravity, 12 Minutes to Destiny and Hoptical Illusion. My favourites would be Antigravity, which is a light lager and 12 Minutes to Destiny, which is a hibiscus pale lager. If you like fruity drinks, like sangria, you would definitely love 12 Minutes to Destiny! Def. will be back if I'm in the area :) read more

* covid update dec 2020) Seating is great- every table is separated with plexiglass and their regular 'flick the light for service' is more useful than ever! Menu is updated with great new items (mini hot dogs? gotta try em'). Very covid safe, staff is great and uses PPE at all times - we will be returning as many times as we are allowed to while this pandemic is afoot! ********* My absolute favourite place in Barrie. I recommend it to everyone! Awesome selection of craft beer and although their food menu is small, everything on it is top notch. Head over earlier in the night as seating can fill up quickly. Live entertainment is great as well. read more

A bar with an excellent selection of craft beer on tap! I was a bit disappointed with the burger and fries because of how much the menu built them up. They were very "just okay", but at a premium price. This is definitely not a gastro pub. So long as you set your expectations accordingly, you will not be disappointed. This is a great place to hang out with friends if you want great beer on tap and live music entertainment. read more

I was at Flying Monkey on a short trip to Canada. It's in a cute little downtown area near the lake. I am sure its amazing in the summer. I love the set up of the restaurant. They have a bunch of band and singer posters on the ceilings along with license plates from all over. Very fun to look at. They have little hanging lights that you can switch on when you need service. There is a board near the bar which tells the servers which table needs them! How efficient! I started with the 12 minutes to Destiny (Hisbiscus Pale Ale) Holy delicious! Definitely a good one to start with. I am not much of a sweet drinker so I could only have one but really loved it! Next I had the Confederation Amber Ale (malt backbone with caramel sweetness). Another great choice! Not sweet at all but you could taste the caramel infusion. We ordred a bunch of food: pretzels, warm olives, fries, and the brewsketta (bruschetta). The fries and their aoili and beer infused ketchup sauces are amazing!! The pretzels were huge and so yummy wiith their mustard cheese sauce! The warm olives would have been great if they were pitted. As a tourist in Canada I think this was a perfect spot to start our night! Our server was great and we were seated promptly. We enjoyed it so much we bought some souvenirs for our bar! Can't wait to come back on our next trip! read more

I do not know why this place has such high rating. We did not like anything about it. We ordered two beer samplers - each included four beers, and chicken wings in buffalo style sauce (chose medium hotness which was the lowest option they had). Wings were impossible to eat - dry meat inside with hot, bitter, and vinegary sauce outside. It was like drinking cup of vinegar with cayenne pepper dissolved in it. For beer samplers we could choose any beers they had on tap. We chose 8 different beers and did not like any of them. Some of the beers were just bad. There was beer that had chocolate aftertaste, it was my least favourite. On top of all that patio was full of bees. Service was good but it cannot save this place in my eyes. read more

This place is so fun and eclectic. As they say, "normal is weird." We split a flight of 4 beers. The IPAs weren't great (and I love hoppy beer) but the amber was good and their raspberry hibiscus lager was surprisingly delicious. We also got their huge pretzel which was one of the best warm pretzels I've ever had. Light and airy with the perfect crisp on the outside. Served with mustard (not great) and a cheese dipping sauce (heavenly). We did the tour which was short but still pretty cool and informative. It's free so why not??? Best thing about this place is the way it is decorated, with bright paint throughout. The back stairs have the entire lyrics to "American Pie." So fun. read more
