Have tried flying money juicy a$$ beer but have never been to the brewery before. Loved the ambiance of the bar - live music every night with Christmas decorations everywhere. Awesome spot. Great beers and they offer a flight. The flight only has 4 beers, but they serve big pours. I can't remember the name of them, but my favorite was the beer that had the rosehip, hibiscus, and raspberry - amazing!!! We also got the poutine and it was very tasty. The service was great and even the other guests at the bar were super fun to chat with. It's definitely a locals bar, but they ship their beers all over the world which is awesome. We went on a very busy day, Canada Day. It was wonderful. Very loud because of the live music but still very enjoyable. The nachos and wings were delicious. Visited one of my favourite breweries up north at Flying Monkey Craft Brewery on Labour Day long weekend. So blessed that they open on public holidays ^^ The food, beer, and service here are always fantastic! They also sell their own merch and fridge in the front - got ourselves some super cool graphic tees, and a few beers and seltzers to go :) My favourite go-to is to get their beer flights (4 x 5 oz. samplers)! 2 of my favourite beers on tap: 12 Minutes Of Destiny * Rose-hips, Hibiscus, and Raspberry Lager Chocolate Manifesto * Imperial Triple Chocolate Milk Stout The honey garlic wings are juicy and tender. Absolutely love this place. The staff is fantastic. Shoutout to Abby (Abbey?) who helped me out at the bar. She gave some great suggestions on drinks and really took great care of me. The ambiance is so cute and fun and has a never ending amount of stuff to look at! The food was great. Really interesting selection! While traveling, I like to order flights at the local craft brewery, and this location offered a really wide variety. I think I tried a lager, an IPA, a dark beer, and one fruity sour, and all were flavourful but not overwhelming. They offer flight-sized beers individually, really allowing you to mix and match. When you walk in you sit down flick the switch to have your order taken. If you're not sure about the drink the servers are nice giving a sampler. Finally took the trek to the brewery all the way from Western Australia and do not regret a moment. The tour was great and very informative. As someone relatively new to home brewing myself it was awesome to see everything work on a larger scale. Can't say I was huge on their rotating beers on tap but I always love the regulars. Bonus *s for place reminding me of university AND male server with glasses. Why can't there be a server like him at each place I go to? Confession: I'm still figuring out whether or not I like beer. I know that I like most ciders, not really a fan of sours, but beer itself is...questionable for me. I certainly don't like the heavy stuff that sits in your stomach like a loaf of bread. Had a flight of 5 beers, server's choice after I told him what I liked. The flavours were really good, but a couple of them, were on the tart side for me. I don't really like tart flavours. I asked server about a couple of the other beers they had and this guy, without me asking, goes and gets samples for me. Now that is SERVICE! Since the vibe is more relaxed than a bigger city, not pretentious or intimidating, I think Flying Monkeys is a must-visit if you're in Barrie! Ok so admittedly I did not have any of the food but am rating this on the basis of atmosphere and beer, both of which were excellent. Absolutely love the decor here. There's tons of things here to peruse, examine and take pictures of. Even all the bathrooms are interesting. The selection of beer is great. They have their regular beer that you can find in stores, but also have a selection of taps that are interesting and innovative. Great choice in both darker and lighter brews. Gord and I spent some time this afternoon on the patio of Flying Monkeys. Gord's a fan of craft beer and he likes their beer. They renovated and as of the beginning of July now serve food. It's changed a lot since I was last there. It's really fun! They sell beer onsite along with swag. They brew their beer onsite. We sat on the patio, which is right on Dunlop Street E. I had a couple Wild Patty Crazy Berry, which I discovered at last summer's Roundhouse Craft Beer Festival. There are album covers on the way to the washrooms. The bathrooms have different themes. On the way back up the stairs are the words to American Pie. I'm looking forward to going back! read more

We got the jerk chicken nachos, and honey garlic chicken wings. The jerk chicken nachos were amazing!! I got a flight of 4 beers, you get to choose the 4 flavours that you want. I chose Smashbomb Atomic, Antigravity, 12 Minutes to Destiny and Hoptical Illusion. My favourites would be Antigravity, which is a light lager and 12 Minutes to Destiny, which is a hibiscus pale lager. I was at Flying Monkey on a short trip to Canada. It's in a cute little downtown area near the lake. I am sure its amazing in the summer. I love the set up of the restaurant. They have a bunch of band and singer posters on the ceilings along with license plates from all over. Very fun to look at. They have little hanging lights that you can switch on when you need service. There is a board near the bar which tells the servers which table needs them! How efficient! I started with the 12 minutes to Destiny (Hisbiscus Pale Ale) Holy delicious! Definitely a good one to start with. I am not much of a sweet drinker so I could only have one but really loved it! Next I had the Confederation Amber Ale (malt backbone with caramel sweetness). Another great choice! Not sweet at all but you could taste the caramel infusion. We ordred a bunch of food: pretzels, warm olives, fries, and the brewsketta (bruschetta). The fries and their aoili and beer infused ketchup sauces are amazing!! The pretzels were huge and so yummy wiith their mustard cheese sauce! The warm olives would have been great if they were pitted. As a tourist in Canada I think this was a perfect spot to start our night! Our server was great and we were seated promptly. We enjoyed it so much we bought some souvenirs for our bar! I do not know why this place has such high rating. We did not like anything about it. We ordered two beer samplers - each included four beers, and chicken wings in buffalo style sauce (chose medium hotness which was the lowest option they had). Wings were impossible to eat - dry meat inside with hot, bitter, and vinegary sauce outside. It was like drinking cup of vinegar with cayenne pepper dissolved in it. For beer samplers we could choose any beers they had on tap. We chose 8 different beers and did not like any of them. Some of the beers were just bad. There was beer that had chocolate aftertaste, it was my least favourite. On top of all that patio was full of bees. Service was good but it cannot save this place in my eyes. read more

The IPAs weren't great (and I love hoppy beer) but the amber was good and their raspberry hibiscus lager was surprisingly delicious. We also got their huge pretzel which was one of the best warm pretzels I've ever had. Light and airy with the perfect crisp on the outside. Served with mustard (not great) and a cheese dipping sauce (heavenly). We did the tour which was short but still pretty cool and informative. It's free so why not??? Such a wonderful gem in downtown Barrie. There are so many beers on tap that are all so unique. There's a milkshake IPA that is so fresh and flavourful. We've been here numerous times, and with each visit we're so impressed by the specialness of this brewpub in a city where there tends to be a lack of cool, interesting places. If you like pickles, try the dill pickle pizza. The dough is just covered in them. It sounds like it would taste weird, and it does, but in such a good way. 5 stars for beer, 5 stars for the tour, 3 stars for food. Great tour! It was closer to 50m than the 30m it was supposed to be, which we enjoyed every second of. It was led by a guide with a wealth of information about the company and how to brew the various types of beer. For example, apparently this brewery has has the highest efficacy of production for the size in North America. I've paid for tours that were less informative than this one. There was a strong smell (I'm guessing it's of fermenting) throughout the tour though, so those who can't stand strong smells have to watch out. Beer: Items 1-9 of the on tap menu are permanent, and 10-16 are rotating. Every single beer of the 5 types we tried was excellent. 4 of the beers we tried were on tap that day. Antigravity was a perfect light yet tasty beer, while 12 minutes to destiny would be great for those who want a slight sour fruity twist (with hibiscus, rose hips, raspberries and orange peel). My favorite was wonderstar, which was light but inspired by the botanicals of gin. The last one I can't remember the name of, but it was a sweet dark ale that had been aged 3 years and it tasted just like dessert. Meanwhile, I had to get a can of Sparklepuff after hearing our tour guide describe it. It's a new style of beer which is high in alcohol (~10%) while hardly being bitter at all. It's also triple-hopped and sweet, made with peaches! It's not on tap yet and apparently keeps selling out. If you get a chance to try it, I would recommend this for anyone who feels they would like a sweet, tasty and punchy beer. So drinkable, but watch the alcohol content! Food: The garbage pail tots are great to match with beer! They came loaded with cheese and sour cream. The server was considerate enough to put on the cheese and sour cream at the table, after checking that everyone wanted it served on top vs at the side.
