Another place I had been wanting to try for ages, finally ticked off the list! It was difficult to find the entrance until the security guard informed us. They've decorated the place very well, and has dim lighting throughout. Really cool vibe and staff are generally pretty friendly, although it took a while to flag someone down at times.
The menu has had a bit of an update, from which we got fried tempeh and coconut fried prawn bammies, vegetable rundown, grilled flank steak, BBQ jerk corn, and Colombo okra. It was a bit of over ordering and I'm surprised the waitress actually advised us to order more after asking if we were hungry, when we were one down (Colombo okra) saying the steak was small. Far from it.
The fried tempeh bammie can be given a miss. It was rather bland and dry - not enough of the eggplant puree. However, the prawn bammie made up for it with a rather mild spicy sauce and refreshing salsa.
Both the BIGS (mains) were worthy of this category, and you could make do with one each and perhaps a couple of bammies or sides/smalls. The vegetable rundown had a good serving of rice and mix of veggies, but could have done with a bit more of the sweet potato and corn. It was slightly on the bland side but a swirl of the hot sauce brought it up a notch. The flank steak was perfectly cooked and there was SOOO much of it too. I really enjoyed the cauliflower puree on top.
The Colombo okra came with a nice sauce and you would highly enjoy it if you like okra. I liked it at first but wasn't a fan of how it turns slimy when you keep chewing it. And last but not least, the BBQ jerk corn really is a must-try. It was the highlight of the meal. Coconut + corn, with a squeeze of lime make for a winning combo. read more
