I was on the hunt for good soul food in Austin, and The Rolling Rooster absolutely delivered…read more The collard greens were some of the best I've had in a while. They were perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of vinegar and cooked to that ideal tender texture without being mushy. The fried chicken and catfish were outstanding. Both were well seasoned, incredibly crispy, and tasted like they were fried in fresh grease. Every bite was hot, fresh, and full of flavor. The baked macaroni and cheese was good, but it leaned a little more toward a Velveeta-style cheese sauce than my personal preference. Still a solid 9/10. I also ordered the Peach Passion Fruit Hennessy margarita, and it was superb. Smooth, flavorful, and easily one of the highlights of the meal. The staff was friendly and welcoming, the prices were very reasonable, and the portions were generous. If you're looking for authentic soul food in Austin, The Rolling Rooster is absolutely worth the stop. I'll definitely be back.

Would you pick a fried chicken spot for a Father's Day brunch? Probably not...but that's exactly…read morewhat my husband chose for his special day. I don't eat a lot of fried food, but sometimes you just go with the flow. Every year, we go through the same routine. Two weeks out: "Have you picked a restaurant yet?" Not yet. One week out: "Any ideas?" Still no. Then, three days before Father's Day...bam...the decision is made! Luckily, this last-minute pick didn't require reservations. This year's winner? Drum roll...The Rolling Rooster. Honestly, you've got to love the name. The Rolling Rooster is located in a strip center at the corner of Mopac and Wells Branch Parkway. It looks small from the outside, but once you step in, it opens up into a surprisingly spacious dining area. It's not fancy, but it has a warm, homey feel. We were greeted right away by Edna, who handled both hosting and serving. She was friendly and welcoming, embodying that classic Texas Southern hospitality. The atmosphere was cozy, with a smooth R&B playlist spinning in the background. As you'd expect, the restaurant focuses on Southern comfort food...think fried chicken, wings, and waffles. The standout for me was the catfish: crispy, flavorful, and coated with a slightly heavier cornmeal crust than usual, which added a nice texture. We both went with the 2 | 2 combo...two meats and two sides...choosing fried chicken wings and catfish. For sides, we had yams, fries, Mac n cheese and my favorite...grits. The food tasted like something straight out of a family kitchen...comforting, hearty, and satisfying. Portions were generous and reasonably priced, so much so that we didn't have room for dessert on the spot. We did, however, grab some banana pudding to go and I'm glad we did. It was absolutely delicious and the perfect sweet ending to the meal. The hubby and I got to enjoy some quality time while he enjoyed one of his favorite meals...a win-win! Happy Father's Day!

My girls are begging for anchor wings nightly, the 9yo loves their retrial and the 7yo loves the jerk, I personally love the honey siracha and babe alert ranch. Now the honey siracha, it's listed as like the one of the hottest, no sir it's barely spicy at all, I still love it but just saying. Wait staff is always awesome, friendly and super helpful. Only complaint is we saw they have .99c wings on Tuesdays, it says limit 10, which was perfect for the girls and I since we can't eat more than 6. The waiter said it's a misprint and supposed to say 10 minimum. That was frustrating and sad because we would go every Tuesday if we could order less, 10 is way too much for all 3 of us and all 3 like different flavors so sharing won't work either. Love the hand cleaning station, although it looks like it could use a cleaning itself lol. But 5 stars because yesssss, the food and the service are so good. Wait one more complaint, sorry! The skillet cookie, way too expensive for what you get AND the skillet is tiny it's impossible to eat without getting burned. Knowing it was bringing hot and being careful all 3 of us still left with burns.

I had a craving for lemon pepper wings and decided to give this place a try. The ratings weren't great to begin with, but I like to give people and businesses a chance to prove the reviews wrong. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case this time. To start, it took quite a while for us to get a server. In fact, I was about ready to get up and leave before anyone came over. When we finally got service, my wife ordered an unsweet tea with extra ice and no lemon. The server repeated it back as a sweet tea, so we corrected her. The tea arrived unsweetened, but it had very little ice and came with lemon. My wife asked for a cup of extra ice and had to remind the server more than once before getting it. When the food arrived, my wings were incredibly small and honestly pretty disappointing. I would have taken pictures, but my phone was nearly dead and charging in the car. I also ordered a pineapple margarita, which tasted more like straight pineapple juice than a margarita. My wife's curly fries were hard and overcooked. Overall, it was just a bad experience from start to finish. Between the slow service, incorrect drink order, disappointing food, and underwhelming margarita, we left unsatisfied and won't be returning.

I don't usually leave reviews, but this experience was disappointing enough to speak on. We sat at…read morethe bar, and Nicole was our server. From the start, her attitude was poor. Every time I tried to order, she would cut me off mid-sentence, making the whole interaction feel rushed and dismissive. The place wasn't busy, but she carried herself like it was, and I could hear her speaking to other guests the same way, so it clearly wasn't just us. I'm someone who genuinely likes to take care of people who take care of me, so I didn't want to give her a hard time but the service made it hard to enjoy being there. Unfortunately, the food didn't help either. The fries were cold and hard, the burger was underwhelming, and the wings weren't good at all. I still paid and didn't send anything back because that's just how I handle things, but overall, a lot needs to change here. I didn't realize this location had such a low rating until after I came in, and now I understand why..

Also some of the items are either not available or are for example the burger only, not the lunch burger with fires and a drink. This causes you to purchase the fries and drinks separately and the burger alone is now more points. OK enough complaining, still really good food, just now more expensive to have lunch here.
