Magical! That's what our wedding day was on the Queen Mary. The venue was amazing and beautiful and the staff was professional and on top of everything. We had our first venue fall through, but when we called the Queen Mary we were immediately put into the best hands and made to feel at total ease. Stacia and Breanna were over-the-top with the way they treated us like we were life-long friends of theirs. My Wife and I were continually impressed and made to feel at ease with all of the planning...all the way through to the morning after our wedding. Early on, Stacia took all of our calls and showed us rooms on the ship several times over several weeks and she never lost patience or got annoyed with us. Even when she stayed late after a long day of work to show us a ball room just "one more time." She was still warm, welcoming and full of smiles. Then Breanna took us under her wing and we were instantly treated like close friends to her also! I have been telling anyone who will listen how amazing Jeri has been throughout the entire process. Whether it was a question or concern she was always respectful, patient, professional and very prompt in her responses. The Queen Mary is currently under construction. We had our ceremony at the wedding gazebo and our cocktail hour and reception were at the deck and Verandah Grill behind it. The week of the wedding we were informed that there was an issue with construction on the deck behind the Verandah Grill, but Jeri and her supervisor immediately came to us with a solution that ended up making the space even more beautiful than before! I was already impressed by Jeri and her team, but this blew me away! Jeri made this process so smooth for us- there never was reason to worry. The day of the wedding moved like clockwork. The ceremony, the reception, the food, the service were all better than I could have ever imagined. I keep getting compliments about how wonderful the wedding was. #200 When a couple begins the planning process for their wedding, finding the perfect venue is key to making it a truly memorable event. Angela & I began the search for our wedding venue about 14 before the big day. We wanted it to be just perfect and reflect our personalities. We had a very specific art deco theme in mind and wanted to find a classy place. Then one day we found the perfect location in downtown L.A. only to have our dreams shattered by a lousy wedding staff. We were about to give up and get married at any old place when Angela decided to get on the internet in a final attempt at finding a perfect place. ...And then she found it. It was a little further away than we planned but it was a venue were we could have the wedding, reception & stay the night all in one place. It was worth a shot. Angela called the Queen Mary wedding chapel and spoke with Lorna who told us to come on down and she would give us a walk through that day. We were ecstatic. When we got there, we got what felt like the VIP tour. We saw the beautiful wedding chapel, and all the available banquet rooms (each beautiful and unique in their own ways). When we came to the Queen's Salon we knew this was the place. Lorna told us it cost $1,000 to rent the wedding chapel, and $1,000 to rent the Queen's Salon (something we later found out was not necessary). We were sold. We reserved the Queen's Salon, which was the largest room we were shown (able to hold up to 550 or so people). It has beautiful art deco elements, 2 exquisite fire places, a large stage (big enough for more that one form of entertainment), a large dance floor in the middle of the room, beautiful lighted pillars, and pink-tinted mirrors (that we were told were on the ship so when a passenger was sea sick and looked at their reflection they looked pink instead of green and were supposed to feel better). It was perfect! But there was trouble. Lorna quit or was fired. We never got a straight answer, but we were assigned to some teenage looking girl who didn't know what she was doing. We were passed around and ignored. Phone calls and emails went unanswered. It became very frustrating. Then we found out the little teenager quit or was fired (one never knows). At this point we were so frustrated that we decided to hire our own coordinator to sort out this mess and take care of business. She was awesome, and soon we met our new wedding liaison, Carrie Stafford. And to our great surprise she remained employed with the Queen Mary throughout the rest of our planning and wedding. She was kinda flakey, late to appointments, not great at returning phone calls and emails promptly, but it was okay we were planning now and had our own coordinator. The day of our wedding finally arrived and I have the say the Queen Mary really stepped up and threw an unbelievable party for us. Our food was wonderful and just how we wanted it. We missed most of the hors d'oeuvre, but the amazing banquet captain had some delivered to our table so we would have something to eat before dinner was served. The wait staff was Outstanding! They went above and beyond, especially the banquet captain. Our bartender was amazing also, she took great care of all of our guests. It was reasonably priced for what we got. We had an open bar all night, champagne toast, passed hors d'oeuvre, main course, the chapel, and free parking for all guests. Their wedding packages start at $54 per person. I just held my wedding at the Queen Mary on October 1, 2016. It was literally the best decision my husband and I made. We wanted to have an Art Deco themed wedding and the Queen Mary gave us the look we were going for and it also gave us a great price, good food, and fun. First, I have to say that Kacie Rattigan is a godsend! I loved working with her! She put me in touch with lots of amazing vendors that I never would have thought to book if it wasn't for her. She put us in contact with Joan Fuller, the most amazing photographer ever and a talented florist, Mitzi. My mom loved the photographer so much she tried to hog her to herself. Also, the guests made off with all the centerpieces and raved about how beautiful they were. Kacie did not stop there, she also introduced us to Sue, who was so sweet and made our art deco invitations, table numbers and name cards, and save the dates. Sue really set the mood and was also there on the day of the wedding to help with "day of services." Second, since I am on the topic of day of service. I highly recommended paying for it. It is the best money you will spend. Kacie and Sue were so helpful with making sure everything went smoothly. They went above and beyond in such a way that there is no way they were paid enough for all they did. Kacie, in particular, was like a wedding therapist helping me through the stress and keeping everything running smoothly. Third point, I loved the wedding salon. I booked myself there for my bridal appointment, bridesmaids, mother-in-law, mother, grandma, and cousin. Lana and her glam squad had as all looking beautiful and all in art deco theme. Everyone looked gorgeous and more perfect than I could have imagined. The Spa staff were also very good with the flower girls also. It felt like we were having a party in there. It was so fun! Fourth, Ashley really helped us get the food in order and Maria the banquet manager held down everything on the day of the reception. The guests loved the food. I myself was pretty impressed. I just wished I was not so busy running around that I could have ate more of it. Fifth, DJ and Photo booth. Our DJ was unable to do our event last minute, but Kacie got a not only a DJ replacement, but a photo booth last minute. You would never know, he was not our original DJ. The crowd loved him and the music. Mondo and Joy Reyes had the green screen photo booth, with interchangeable backgrounds. The guests loved it! They gave us all the pictures at the end and it was so fun looking at them and how silly people got with all the cool props. Sixth, Christina in the hotel was lovely. We had some difficult guests at our wedding and she handled everything so nicely. Sometimes, people just complain about everything. I had guests like that and it was embarrassing. They were so rude because they did not get a "perfect" experience. Christina was unfazed and so kind to people who were not so nice. She deserves a medal for dealing with my brother in law's girlfriend. Lastly, I just want to say that I had a beautiful wedding thanks to the staff at the Queen Mary, but especially Kacie. She really went above and beyond. With her, great food, beautiful settings, awesome vendors, and attentive staff, I had my dream wedding. I will not be listing any cons because anything that went wrong is too petty to mention. Also, everything that went right overshadowed what went wrong. Breanna is such a pleasure to work with and made this process so easy and enjoyable for us. Breanna is incredibly knowledgeable, professional, and very talented at what she does, she definitely made us feel like family and at ease from the very beginning. Despite her busy schedule, Breanna made herself available to answer all my questions and address my concerns in a prompt manner, provide ideas, and help with anything I needed assistance with along the way. The beauty and history of the ship is felt with all who work for it and attend any event on it. That being said, there are still issues that have been expressed in other Yelp reviews that have not been mended. So, if you plan on having your event at this amazing venue, here are my suggestions... 1. Consider staying somewhere else overnight. There are still major issues with booking, if you have paid (one of our guests received an email that he had paid, arrived there, and they made him pay again). There are SO many events going on that cause chaos and noise. We did not sleep all night because of loud guests and thin walls. 2. If construction is still happening, ask about backup plan and how long the notice is for the change. We were told 10 days prior, that our location needed to be changed. We originally needed the one location that was wheelchair accessible for my Dad. Lucky for them, he was not able to attend. I WILL say, the staff is AMAZING! Very sincere in helping with the change. Again, the ship and all it's guests and crew have heart. ...one too much so though, in the wrong way... 3. Our sales gal flirted with my then fiance', now hubby. It was bad. She patted him on the back, shoulder, many times, making statements like, " She is never a bride. Do we have friends to hook her up with?" A bride called during our signing, and there was a problem...she then said, "If things do not work out at your wedding, maybe it's not meant to be." As you can imagine, this wasn't comforting. Then, after having room block and payment problems, she personally texted then tried to call HIM. When she couldn't get ahold of him, she texted me. I told her it was fine and had been worked out. She insisted on speaking with him. I told her he was trying on his tux. She said, " Enjoy him in a tux!". Then, proceeded to call him seconds later. During our tour around the ship, picking out sites, she wore a spandex, thigh-high black dress with huge stiletto heals. Just not professional. Other than that, please enjoy the ship and people. Most have worked there for years! Our captain the day of and for the Sunday Brunch (ah-maxing! Said to be #1 in the WORLD!) Yol, is wonderful. Turns out the banquet department has many price points and packages and include everything for your event: room, food, linens, champagne toast, cake, and even a night aboard the Queen Mary for the newlyweds! By tweaking our preferred wedding date by 3 weeks, we were able to have the one of a kind day we all wanted! I cannot say enough about the staff at the Queen Mary especially Breanna Jessica Velario, our contact and event coordinator for all things Queen Mary! She was professional, warm, fantastic at communication and "things got done!" Breanna easily and promptly handled ALL our business with the ship, even our room block for our family and friends! But let's not forget that she handled our tasting, linen selection, multiple room layout changes as well as the financial aspect of our event. During our tasting she was funny, professional, warm and caring. My daughter's future mother-in-law loved the food and drink as well as getting to see the venue in person! We actually had a GREAT time during our tasting. One fantastic tip Breanna gave us was to hire a day of coordinator. She said every family should have one for their wedding day. But it was especially helpful aboard the Queen Mary. I first met her during our menu tasting and knew instantly she was someone I could trust. She's very sweet, patient, and down-to-earth. The Queen Mary... I have to say was thee most frustrating venue I've ever worked with. Once you give them your money, prepare to not hear back from them and for them to ignore you. When you walk into one of the dazzling vintage rooms you think, "Wow, this is where I want my wedding." STOP IMMEDIATELY and run! When we first signed with Nicole at the Queen Mary, everything was great. It was an exciting moment for us... Then the first bad sign happened. We were trying to find YELP high rated florists in the LBC area and came across several vendors that either would NOT work with the Queen Mary at all because of bad experiences, or charged an additional amount because how awful vendors are treated aboard the ol' ship. Ok, I just shook my head thinking maybe its some weird coincidence or as we all know "Just another reason for a wedding vendor to nickel and dime us." About two months later our account was transferred to another Queen Mary rep Jacqueline ... She emailed me immediately with all of the regular schedules, menus, tasting dates, payments etc... After emailing her back right away with several questions, I did not hear a reply. I waited two weeks for a response and nothing... I called, left a voicemail.... Still nothing. Finally, I CC'd what I believe is her boss, Nicole and like magic received a response within the hour. Not to mention it took them over 7 MONTHS to figure out my room block... which after 7 months your guests are already booking elsewhere... Long story short, there were so many more problems between our Suite reservation, tables in the wrong areas, incorrect amounts charged, that I decided to do the best thing for our wedding and hire a day of coordinator! If you have read this and still want to follow through with the Queen Mary heed this warning: You will 100% need a day of coordinator!! read more

First off, please consider how important it is to you that your wedding/reception be on the Queen Mary. Consider if that is more important to you than good customer service and reliable communication. Highly consider getting a personal wedding planner, especially if this is a destination wedding, or you may be pulling your hair our from the lack of timely responsiveness that is the Queen Mary wedding coordination. :) I am a very organized bride who has been planning for a year and even then felt I needed to stay very on top of things to make sure they got done. Pre-Wedding Planning. Coordinator: - Our coordinator, Karen, often did not respond to emails and calls right away, sometimes not at all, or up to weeks later. She gave us conflicting information at times. Even when we met in person with her, she did not have all of her documents organized. We also had to replan our vacation around her and caught her in a lie about why she was not available (at first she said it was the QM that scheduled her that way but later let it slip that she was taking the day off for her daughter's bday. We had to change our trip plans by a day because of this and wish she would have been honest in the first place. Not cool when people are spending this much $. + Karen is nice in person, but in a relatively phony way. She arranged a nice tasting and stayed later than normal to chat with us. This slightly made up for the scheduling issue but feel she needs a lot of work with her organization. Overall Coordination: - payments are sometimes not processed until up to 2 weeks past when they are sent. - no option for guests to book room blocks online so they had to call. How inconvenient! We also had to call to book our own rooms under the block. We had to request two times for our family/party to be near us in our block and one of the rooms almost was given away. Queen Mary Overall: - Not very accommodating even though we are spending thousands of dollars and have been repeat customers. Our parking was not waived for any vendors, no repeat guest incentives. I would say they need to up the customer relations to be on par for other wedding venues. Some front desk people are nice but I don't feel like we were treated as specially as we should for hosting a wedding. The actual stay was better and Patrick went above and beyond and actually made it worth it, but all in all they need to up their VIP treatment for faithful customers or those hosting events. - They don't allow tape for plastic runners during the ceremony even on the concrete portion. They should provide a carpet runner. Now for the Wedding/Ceremony: + Karen up and left about 2 weeks before our wedding. Gloria was significantly more competent but by that time we had hired our own planner. Again, no one from the catering office informed us of the change, we only found out because our personal planner called trying to set up an appointment. That said, Gloria was fantastic and I highly recommend her. She was organized, on top of things, and professional. If you can request her, definitely do so. + Our banquet captain, Ramone was also great! + The ceremony and reception were just beautiful. The wait staff were attentive and on top of things. It went perfectly and all of our guests were happy! All in all definitely get your own week of or month of planner if you are having a Queen Mary wedding. It seems like quite a few others have had the experience of the turn around on coordinators and you need someone else to pick up when needed. It's worth it for the ambience but don't expect the VIP treatment in terms of the hotel in general. They comp you a state room for your wedding night but that's about it. If you are having your ceremony on the sun deck be VERY mindful of the schedule of the cruise ships in the background. We were good but it could easily ruin your backdrop! Rooms: Very very thin. Noisy drunk people on weekends. Possible fleas or bedbugs, we were all getting bit. Carpets need to be deep-cleaned, even in the suites, our feet got dirty without shoes. Beds are very comfy. Good quality toiletries although it's a shampoo/conditioner combo so bring your own. You come to the QM for the experience but keep in mind that is what you are paying for, not for a beautiful room or peace and quiet. I suggest they have a "quiet wing" for those that prefer a more peaceful stay with no TVs. read more

OK, my partner and I got married on October 12, 2014. I was a little concerned based on some of the reviews I have seen, but I need to tell you that our wedding went over without a hitch. Our wedding planner was professional and allowed unlimited access to the ship during the planning phase. The tasting was marvelous and all pricing was discussed up front and was accurate. The only hick-up we had was that our room was not upgraded to a suite as requested, but the room we were provided for free as part of the package was more than spacious for our needs. The recommendations for both the florest and the baker were also great and their services were completed with no issues. My husband and I got married on the Queen Mary in June of 2014. I have never planned a wedding before and Jacqueline (our coordinator) was great. I bombarded her with e-mails almost weekly for 16 months. She remained professional and was so helpful. Our wedding was by far the best wedding we have ever been too. The food was amazing, we got upgraded 1 week before the wedding because another couple had cancelled and the room (or shall I say rooms) were gorgeous. You can't beat the location and the ambiance compares to none. The staff didn't miss a beat. Once the ceremony and cocktail hour were over there was another lady in charge whose name I have since forgotten, but she worked just as hard as Jacqueline. She made sure that my every request was accommodated down to dimming the lights once the reception started. She was even concerned that I wasn't eating enough food and attempted many times to get me to eat. I would, without a doubt, do it all over again, exactly the same way! Also, I feel it is important to mention that one of the pictures I really wanted to get was in the wheel room. When we made it to the wheel room it had just closed. After banging on the window (hey you only get married once) the gentleman that was in there was nice enough to open it up to us so we could get some pictures. We worked with Stacia for over a year in preparation for our big day and she was awesome!! When ever I needed information, access to the ship's chapel or our reception room, she was always available to assist. She was extremely patient and very helpful/knowledgeable when it came to all the planning that goes into a wedding. She worked seamlessly with myself and my vendors. My husband and I are both from the South Bay and grew up with the Queen Mary in our backyards, but we will never look at it in the same way again! It's a special place for us now and we feel like we have genuinely made friends with a number of staff members there, especially Stacia!! The head wedding coordinator at the Queen Mary is AMAZING. As I was planning and searching through all the wedding vendors in Orange County and LA, I got a ton of attitude, especially "how much money is this person going to provide us with." Very thinly veiled crass commercialism. Fast forward to meeting Carrie at the Queen Mary. I threw a bunch of hard questions at her off the top, about pricing, venue, catering, even the previous review on Yelp about the switching-off of the coordinators (Derek Z). She handled my concerns with class and answered every single thing to my satisfaction. She invited me (and he-who-shall-not-be-named) to look over the ship, discuss pricing, etc. The whole time, I got the strong sense of how genuinely she loves her work and how important it was to her that our wedding be as perfect as possible. She was very prompt and responsive in communications and appointments, and helped us tailor the contract as we needed it. Since I didn't get to actually get *married* there, I can't speak for the whole process. But I would completely recommend the Queen Mary as a really awesome vintage venue, and Carrie is the person who will make your special day that much better. And if I ever find a fiance I actually want to get married to, I'll have it there. :P read more

I am still in the process of choosing a venue for our wedding next year, but we just took a tour of the Queen Mary last weekend and we fell in love! The venue itself is awesome! There are so many options to choose from - the Gazebo on the deck with the water behind you, the another Deck (which looks more private) with the skyline of Downtown LB behind you, the simple chapel with an old-fashion flare, or the front bridge where the captain steers the ship - and thats just the options for the ceremony. Then there are many salons or ballrooms to choose from for your reception. Before taking the tour, we had our hearts set on having our ceremony outside. However, we ended up liking the chapel best, especially because it will suite our 1920's-style, Great Gatsby theme. I must say that the photos of the chapel do not do it justice. It's much nicer than we had thought. I don't think we'll be able to find a better venue to suite our Great Gatsby theme because all of the reception/dining rooms already have that art deco flare we're looking for. On top of that, the wedding packages include more than just dinner...they also include the cake, which can end up adding hundreds more to the bottom line. Another positive thing I like about the Queen Mary is that this venue is also a hotel. That means that all of our guests can enjoy the evening (and open bar) without concern of driving home or paying for a shuttle/taxi. It keeps us all together in one place. Plus, it doesn't hurt that our wedding package also includes complimentary accommodation for the bride and groom on the night of the wedding. So far, this is definitely a winner in my book. I've looked at a number of other venues, and yet, never have I been so excited to start planning my wedding than when we left our tour at the Queen Mary. read more

We got married on the Queen 3/22/12 Shortly after the girlfriend and I fell in love with the Queen herself we found ourselves visiting many times over a year period. Naturally since it was the place we fell in love on, I had proposed on the bow of the ship one night after dinner in Chelsea's (before the chowder house) so sure enough after doing some talking to some of the employees we thought what better place to have our wedding. Hotel/Chapel/Reception area Zing! Our families could get nice and toasted and walk to their rooms! Brilliant! FYI the bathrooms are small and guests may complain about the accommodations, but tell them to shut up and enjoy history! So we met with Gloria and began the planning. We were simple in what we wanted and only were having 35-40 guests. We put the down payment to reserve the chapel and had opted to have the captain marry us. We even booked the "Verandah Grill" for its history, space and views. We were only required to meet a food minimum to get the room included. Gloria was great in meeting with us and making time for us when we were in town doing planning and was prompt in returning emails so I never even had to call her. After our tastings and getting all of the planning done @ the Queen Mary things we're ready to go. Food, Chapel, Event Space, etc. everything was done. Or so we thought. We called in January to schedule a visit in February with Gloria to go over final details and put the final payment down. Needless to say, Gloria was gone. We were pretty upset as she had been so good about everything. Judy, one of the other ladies in catering hooked us up with Krystal Kiremit. We were a bit disappointed at first cause we basically had to start fresh. Krystal was great at asking all the right questions and she honored everything Gloria had told us even though some things had changed since then. She was good about taking notes, being prompt and returning emails and calls within a timely manner. When it was time for us to leave to Long Beach, everything was at 100% ready to go. SO the week came and we made our way to Long Beach. We arrived 2 days early as to make sure friends and family got there OK and everything was ready to go without a hitch. We checked in and sure enough the front desk made a mistake on giving us the wrong room type. I didn't say anything then cause we were so busy and had too much to do. The next morning I went to the Front Desk and the girl remembered me and my fiance from months back and remembered we were planning our wedding. She was surprised when I told her "Yup it's tomorrow" she then upgraded us to a very nice suite worthy of a wedding night. It was gorgeous and fit all of our family when they came to visit. Having that big room made a world of a difference during our stay. The day of the wedding came and Krystal and the staff made sure everything was 110% They did everything correctly without a hitch. Krystal coordinated the ceremony and that went great and Captain Roy was great too. He truly loves the QM and is a REAL captain. He added a nice verse into our ceremony that was touching and fit for the occasion. Our guests loved the cocktail hour and said the appetizers were amazing, so amazing that they didn't leave us much! They said the booze was good too. The reception went great and Krystal came in to check on us and you could tell by the smile on her face she was extremely happy that we were happy. It was at that point we seen how much Krystal loves her job and making couples happy. Upon returning to our room that night, Krystal had left us a nice gift of chocolate and a cold bottle of champagne and nice champagne glasses with a personal card left by her thanking us for giving her the opportunity to serve us and congratulating us. That was great and it really blew us away. We felt like we were treated like First Class that entire day! We can't thank Krystal and the Queen Mary staff enough ! read more

Getting married on the Queen Mary was the best decision we made! Stacia was so helpful with the initial tour and providing all the information we needed and Kira was the best! I loved working with her to create our perfect day. She was extremely helpful and easy to contact and answered all my crazy bride questions haha She was so sweet and made the actual day run so smoothly. I didn't have to stress or worry about anything. It was the best! The entire Queen Mary crew that helped and worked our wedding were all so kind and helpful and made our day! I had my wedding in the chapel in August 2005. Our coordinator was Amber and she was great. We spoke with Amber a few times before the wedding to ensure everything was in sequence. Our florist decorated the chapel - we kept it very simple - the chapel has a beautiful simplicity about it already and we didn't want to overdo it. Amber controlled the ceremony music - we just delivered what we wanted on CD. It went off without a hitch - we had the ceremony, then guests were shown to cocktail hour in another hall of the Queen Mary, wedding party had pictures taken in the chapel, then we had pictures taken on the deck. We stayed the night on The Queen Mary, and then picked up all our goodies (wedding certifiate, chuppah, etc) in the morning. read more

I was at a wedding this weekend at the Queen Mary and was actually surprised. As a local to the area, you tend to not think about what in your backyard. The venue was nice, since the wedding takes place outside, but there is one major draw back. People watching the wedding that are just at the queen mary for the tour. I thought it made it feel a little awkward being started at by other guests. Maybe block access during the ceremony at least? There was also an issue with the indoor smoke alarms. Many people in our group use vapor cigs, which are legal indoors, but triggered smoke alarms causing the whole party to leave the room. To me, not a big deal, but to my friends who payed quite a penny to have the event, they were pretty ticked. Overall the food was good and the party was a blast. Just a couple small changes would make this a better wedding venue. read more

My husband and I had our ceremony and reception at the Queen Mary in November 2017. The Queen Mary was absolutely the most perfect venue for us. The feel of the venue was so romantic, exactly what I was looking for...spectacular! Not to mention the package pricing was very reasonable. The ceremony was held in the chapel, which was nice and quaint for our guest count. Cocktail hour was held in the Kings View (great view of the harbor at night) followed by the reception in the Royal Salon. The three rooms were a few feet from each other which was perfect for the guest flow. We selected a choice of Filet Mignon or Salmon for the dinner. The food was absolutely amazing, all of our friends and family were raving about the quality of the food...this was not you typical bland wedding food. Our cake from Rossmoor Pastries was included in the package and the cake was beautiful, moist and delicious. The Queen Mary staff was absolutely amazing, especially our beautiful event coordinator Breanna Valerio. She was very helpful/attentive with the planning of our wedding and connected us with some great vendors. Sue, did our invitations and did a beautiful job. DJ Lucas, did an amazing job, he played all our requests and kept our guests on the dance floor...even my husband and I who aren't big on dancing! Amy, was our florist and day of coordinator. Amy kept in contact with me during the planning process and did beautiful work with the decor/flowers. Amy and Breanna provided great support and attentiveness the day of our wedding, they made us feel very special throughout the entire day. What is most important to us is that our guests and us newlyweds had a great time, which we all did. Many of our guests said they didn't want the night to end, which is so special to us and exactly how we felt. We look forward to having more events at the Queen Mary. So our wedding has passed (October 16, 2015) and it was absolutely beautiful! We had a wonderful time! Our ceremony took place in the Wheel House and our reception was in The Verandah Room/Grill. The food was AMAZING! And the staff was extremely helpful while my mom and brother set up the room before guests arrived. They were very accommodating, even offered suggestions and help while setting up. I will say, we had some frustrating times prior to the wedding due to changing of staff and some attitude in the bookings department. HOWEVER, Hangameh was fantastic and she took care of everything, all you have to do is speak up :) I am a little disappointed that there is a revolving door with the coordinators. We had Kathy French in the beginning, and then eventually Hengameh took over, and I just found out Hengameh is no longer there :( We loved her! She was beyond helpful. One of the things I loved the most about The Queen Mary, is that everything is pretty much all inclusive. They cater, they have a contract with Rossmoor for the cake, they provide linens, and now they even have a Weddings storefront where you can meet with an actual person for additional decorations and what not. We kept everything very minimal as we were going for a 1920s art deco look: black, gold, white, and feathers. The woman at the Queen Mary Weddings storefront was helpful, we utilized her for gold tablecloths. For the rest of the decorations, we did it ourselves and found everything else on Etsy. All in all, the wedding was fabulous. My husband and I were beyond pleased and we would definitely do it all over again! Thank you so much to each staff member who had a hand in our wedding! My wife and I were recently married on the Queen Mary in January 2018. It was a fantastic experience. I cannot say more about how much we loved the venue, both for the ceremony and the reception, as well as the hotel accommodations right on board. Jeri Hargrove completely went out of her way to make sure we felt special and to make sure our multitude of small requests were handled seamlessly. We could not have asked for a nicer and more competent event manager to handle the process. We were married on the Capstan Deck, at night, in January. It was beautiful. Jeri made sure there was extra lighting to support the dark evening, worked closely with the photographers and DJ to coordinate the lighting and the music, and she was present for the entire ceremony. Our accommodations were something that Jeri took into her own hands as well, helping to coordinate over 40 room bookings and facilitate early check ins when necessary and even helped people move and upgrade rooms when the wedding party's needs changed and we needed to upgrade. The reception in the Royal Salon and Kings View Room was beautiful and went off flawlessly, the serving staff and bartenders were extremely helpful and we felt that the event was well staffed with professionals who kept a very pleasant attitude. They brought my wife and I food before everyone else, just to make sure we ate something, and were attentive throughout the evening. We highly recommend the Queen Mary and Jeri Hargrove. The Queen Mary was the perfect place to have our wedding. We started off with a great tour of all of the ball rooms that would accommodate our guests (166 total) with Lisa. She then went over the package with us. The package was such a great value. A beautiful ballroom, catering, cake, tables, chairs, linens, a hosted cocktail hour, and huge stateroom for the night of the wedding was a huge selling point. We were then assigned our wonderful event coordinator, Breanna. She was so helpful, and went over every little detail with us to make sure we were happy. She also recommended hiring a day of coordinator, Lucas Jeanne Events, and that ended up making our day so smooth and easy. We received so many compliments of how unique and great our wedding was because we decided to host it on the Queen Mary. She was very attentive & responded promptly to every email & question I had through the whole process. My wife, Tammy, and I got married on the Queen Mary and had our Reception there, too this past May. This review is to the Queen Mary's response to my wife's unfavorable review below. After they flagged her review twice for calling people by their name (though there are some positive reviews mentioning the exact same names that went unflagged), they then responded to her review with even more dishonesty. Regardless of what the Queen Mary claims, their Catering Event Manager sat across from us at our tasting and told us that SHE would be there for the entire event in case we needed anything - she was there for the ceremony and 30 minutes after, tops. There was no "misunderstanding"; we foolishly believed what we were being told face to face. We even talked at home about what good hands we felt we were in. However, I believe the Queen Mary misunderstood the point my wife was trying to make about the cocktail hour, so I will try and lay it out for you. The cocktail hour was supposed to be from 6:30 - 7:30, OUTSIDE on the deck. The purpose of this cocktail hour as it was explained to us was that the guests gathered out on the deck, where the appetizers and bar were, and within that hour, the (limited) cocktails were at no charge. They were to be mingling out there while we were doing pictures and that the guests would enter the Verandah at 7:30, immediately followed by our entrance. When we returned at 6:50 to the Deck, that's when we found out that the guests had already been brought inside. We asked if we could just move forward, and were told yes, but the free drinks would end. We certainly did not expect them to "pause" the free bar until we were back and that is not what my wife said. We asked that they move the bar inside since the guests and appetizers were already there. That is when we were told that if it was moved, it would end at that moment, over 30 minutes early. So, we had to wait outside so our guests could continue to enjoy the free bar until 7:30. I fail to see why they couldn't move the bar inside, especially after they took it upon themselves to move our guests and appetizers inside. Contrary to what the Queen Mary claims, there were NO reservation signs out. . . zero, zip, zilch, nada. The fact that they are still being dishonest about it is just infuriating. Everyone makes mistakes; people (or businesses) with no integrity just don't claim or rectify them. Another falsehood: the Catering Event Manager did not push us one way or another on a seating chart. The people who were to be at the tables with the reserved signs knew who they were and to look for the reserved signs. However, there were NO reserved signs. Perhaps the wedding party could have guided better as they suggested (in an attempt to blameshift) had 100% of the guests not been allowed into the Verandah an hour early. Regarding the seating chart helping with guests getting their correct meals, our guest's place cards were clearly marked on the back with their meal choice, per the suggestion of the Catering Event Manager. My wife still has all of these email threads; I suggest they look thru theirs before they further stick their feet in their mouths. How about a little more accountability and a little less blameshifting? Again, contrary to what the Queen Mary claims, my wife DID contact the Catering Sales Manager via text the next morning about the missing items and asked if anything was returned. She never received a response. My sister brought her missing purse to the attention of the wait staff, where she was told to ask Lost and Found - she had not left the Verandah, but checked anyway, and nothing was turned in. Our gripe here was that the Catering Sales Manager just chose to ignore us, rather than help. Really? Not even the common courtesy of a response after spending that much money. So, if you want to be disappointed, lied to having insult added to injury, and want more stress added to one of the most stressful days of your life, then go ahead and sign on that dotted line. Just make sure you read every word of it. May not be a bad idea to bring an audio recorder with you to all meetings, either. And if you do go with them, save EVERY email, text, etc. for when this happens. read more

One star for the ship, because it's the f-ing Queen Mary. She's great & can't help who owns her. Our experience booking our wedding was a nightmare. This review is long - I could give a laundry list of issues. but I don't have room. Our initial experience with Kathy French, the sales manager, was a positive one. Unfortunately, as soon as there was ink was on the contract, we had nothing but trouble. We thought we would reserve a block of rooms for our guests. The rates were about $4 cheaper than the rates they were then offering online. The assured us that rates would be much higher as the event approached. This was not true. Every reservation applied to our block was only done so because we had to call in ourselves to have it counted. Not only was the hotel offering rates around 40% cheaper than our negotiated room rate up to a few short weeks before our ceremony in August, but they were also charging guests the much higher Saturday rate for all nights in their reservation. We were informed that they would not "split rates" that we should have known this ourselves. I was even told by Jacqueline Alvarez (our event manager at the time) after she fixed my mother's reservation that this was a one-time exception. Speaking of Jacqueline... she was absolutely horrible to work with. I found another Yelp review that mentioned how hard it was to get a response out of her - damned if that wasn't accurate. She completely ignored phone calls emails for weeks at a time, was impossible to get a hold of. After one long period of silence I finally heard from Kathy French who informed us that Jacqueline had been promoted, & that she would be helping us until a new Event Manager could be assigned. We finally scheduled our tasting (only available between 11-2 on Tuesdays & Thursdays...awesome ). The tasting went well - but a month passed before we could get a final event order. Hengameh Hosseinioun finally contacted us, let us know that Kathy French was no longer with the Queen Mary, that she was to be our event manager. I will say that of the three, she was certainly the best - but the problems continued right off the bat when we were told that there were "incomplete notes" of what we wanted from the tasting, so we had to piece back together everything that we had asked for from memory (after a month!). When we arrived at the Queen Mary for check-in on Friday, we followed the signs for "Hotel Guest Parking" were very pleased to immediately find an open place. Before I could even get out of my car, a valet attendant barked at us that we were not allowed to park there - it was for valet parking only. I explained that I only wanted to unload the vehicle, that as soon as I was done, I would move my car. He refused, told me that I could either pull my car up next to the entrance allow them to unload it for me, or I would have to go park in the guest parking unload it there. The lots for guests were hundreds of yards away. I guess it is more important that the valets don't walk than the guests. I asked for a cart so that I could unload my car bring the items we needed for the wedding to the room. The bellhop told me that he wasn't allowed to give up the cart - he explained that it was - in fact - "against the law" for me to use the cart. After complaining, I was told I could "go to security" they would let me use one - if, only if I left them my ID. When I asked how our guests would know where to go when they arrived, we were assured that there would be plenty of signs directing them along the way, that members of staff would be nearby to direct people. There were actually only a couple of signs - unclear at all, several of our guests got completely lost. Some were even directed to the wrong wedding! The thing that upset me the most about the day happened at the end of the ceremony, when we were expecting to come back find our families waiting for photos (this was also listed on the timeline). When we came back, they were all gone! As it turned out, they were told by that they were to all go down to the Salon.... that there was a "change of plans" the photos were being done elsewhere. NO ONE told the Queen Mary staff that we were making any change to the photographs. We ended up having to waste more time attempting to get our family members back for the photographs. Only some were able to make it. My 83 year old grandfather just could not make the trip back up - the same with the bride's 93 year old aunt, three cousins in their 80s. We were pleased with the way our ceremony reception turned out - but this was despite the staff at the Queen Mary, not because of it. We were completely dissatisfied with the service hospitality we received at our event during the planning of our wedding. The Queen Mary is a unique venue, you might still want to plan an event there... If you do so, make sure you have an event coordinator, a few other people willing to look out for your interests the day of the event. read more

Our wedding event was Beautiful yet aggrivating at same time ..our coordinator Jackie was great and did the best she could. Not enough staff for big events. Was promised several things and day of wedding experienced several problems from not right suite promised to cake not coming out.way we ordered..and a few extra glitches.all in all for the price we paid im dissapointed. We still had a beautiful wedding our guests had an amazing time at wedding and beinfg able to walk around and tour the ship. but on the back end i am dissapointed..our coordinator did the best she could all by herself i felt bad for her ..also reception felt rushed in eating and cake cutting by host. It's okay though I'll take my business elsewhere bcuz if they can't return a call for a tour then I don't think they can handle a wedding. If I could give 0 stars I would. I called the queen mary to schedule an apt to view the area and talk to a planner about having our wedding there. It took 1 week for someone to return my phone call. When they did she asked all the standard questions, the last question being "have you picked a date or have a date in mind?" I told her March 2017. She said "oh we don't make appts for viewings or allow clients to book unless it is within 18 months" I told her thank you for the information and that we are not interested then. She hung up and called me back within 2 minutes and said "I just wanted to inform you that just about every venue in Southern CA has the same rules, they will not show the venue or allow you to book until the date is within 18 months" I replied, well that's odd because we have looked at 3 other venues already and the queen mary was our last venue to look at that we are interested in. She said "oh ok" and hung up. If I tell you I am no longer interested you do not need to call me back and try and show me up about venue knowledge, do you work for all of the other venues in SoCal?? Ridiculous. I would say the employees name but I am not about slandering someone even if there stupid and ignorant. HORRIBLE customer service and just flat out rude. read more
