It's always…read morebeen so much fun to go and make memories, take pictures with beautiful backgrounds and such awesome fun...but today when we went, I thought why even waste our time anymore!? I had to take my walker down the handicapped ramp, which was a lot easier going down than coming back up! My granddaughter was so excited. I had two of my son's with me, my daughter, her husband and Kirie, my bright and energetic ray of sunshine. She just couldn't wait to get down the mountain to play on the big toy and put her feet in the creek as we have always done. When we got down there the first we noticed was the big play place had been taken down, nothing left but a big sand pit. We thought we'd take some pictures on the bridge and head on over to the waterfall and cave to play in the water. For generations people has been coming and enjoying the cave. Years of fun and fond memories have been made here. There was already people on both sides of the bridge in the smaller creek bed playing so we merged on. Up the mountain we saw signs posted and a big wooden fence blocking the waterfall and cave!? What is this? A fence? Why? For years kids have enjoyed this place, I've never known of anyone ever hurt here! I felt that new people have come in with their fancy signs and fences, taking away the swings and slides and leaving us with nothing. We got to the second bridge and my kids went to check out the pond. There were more people in the pond swimming, which was nice to hear..at least they haven't robbed us of all the watering spots...so we had wasted a trip. Why not work on making those bridges sturdier? My son-in-law found loose boards that's more hazardous to our safety! I knew those were the same bridges from over 20 years ago because I found the same names that were carved into them from back then. If they are so worried about safety, start there! Not get rid of all the good stuff! I couldn't make it across the second bridge so I waited for everyone to come back and we started heading back to the vehicle. It's so hard for me to get down here anymore, I don't know if I'll even try it again and absolutely not with its present state. My granddaughter was so unhappy, everyone was just so upset we spent all this time for nothing. We'll find another park to take her to I just think this is such a shame, the condition of this one and the loss of more memories. It's just so sad.

We just had to pick a site and hope for the best. -it just seemed outdated overall. -the pool didn't open until 10:00am

The location is good since it's right off the freeway and you can have full hook ups if needed. The staff were very nice, the animals on the property were so sweet to see (donkey, cows, goats, sheep, ducks and chickens). We enjoyed our quiet stay and took advantage of the property a d tried to walk at least two miles a day or every other while there. Side note: the town of Shamrock is a close drive with a couple historical buildings. It's small and of course older but worth checking out. There is very good steakhouse in town called the Metropole worth eating at as well. Recommended for your rv stop over needs.

The fishing is amazing even for an amateur like me. Scott, Park Manager, is a pleasure to deal with. Super friendly and supportive. We stayed down near the water in spot 29. The only minor frustration is the flies. But that was probably our own problem. They loved the outside of our RV. but were almost unnoticeable when out and about. We highly recommend this park. A very beautiful part of Oklahoma we don't get to see enough of. We will be back.

We enjoyed swimming in the lake, there's a wonderful sandy beach that's very clean. There's some decent hiking trails and apparently some good fishing, we saw a lot of people fishing near the dam. We loved how empty it was on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. Only a few tents and campers around, it felt very private and secluded. We had the entire beach to ourselves. Unlike Lake Lawtonka, this park allows dogs or at least we didn't see any signs indicating otherwise! Our dogs thoroughly loved it! It's pretty secluded so pack your lunch and bring plenty of water to drink. There was a small general store near the boat ramp that sells burgers but not sure they're open all year.

Route 66 old Bicycle road literally runs along front of campground. We pulled off I-40 as directed and drove 8 miles down a road to Old Route 66, felt lost for a bit so don't turn back to soon. This site looks like its Not Somewhere to stop, but if you don't stop you will miss a really nice place.

Things don't always go right, the water was off briefly because someone broke a line, but they had it fixed within an hour on a Sunday. That must have been expensive, you can tell they prioritize getting things back normal. Sometimes how someone responds to an emergency is more significant than when everything goes smoothly.
