This is a pretty big park with about 234 acres to explore. There's an off leash doggie park, a…read morejogging or walking trail, a man made mountain to hike if that's your thang, (at least that's my interpretation of that big mound), a pavilion with lots of seating for an outdoor gathering with family and friends. The most serene and tranquil part of this park is the lake that constantly whisks fresh breezes off of it while listening to the trees rustle in its wind. Within the park itself is a 2.6 mile concrete hike and bike trail that runs from the southern tip of the park at Fairway Avenue to the dam on the lake. There are public restrooms, a modular playground, basketball goals, drinking fountains, and many picnic areas. There are also 2 lighted baseball fields, 2 lighted softball fields, 3 lighted football fields, and an 18 hole disc golf course. Lake Wichita Park has the only model airplane landing strip in the park system.

Bring firewood! More on that later…read more PROS: The hiking was amazing with various terrain from flat fields of gorgeous wildflowers to difficult rocky climbs. Had to climb up in a few places and hoist my dog up some shelves. Beautiful views of the canyons and rivers. We heard coyotes several times each night. It's a dark skies park, so if you're into stargazing this is the place for you. CONS: Back to the firewood. The parks always say not to bring wood because it can spread insects to the area, but they did not have any firewood available for purchase. Had to leave and drive to Quannah, and the only wood they had was pinon which is not good for cooking. Hope to save you a trip! Restrooms were very dirty and full of bugs - I mean covered. Took one pretty gross shower. The worst state park restrooms I have seen. The second night we had a noisy group using a generator all afternoon and evening until 10 pm (in the tent camping area) and playing loud music. I don't get why people go to nature to drive the animals away with their noise. Wish the employees had circulated more and noticed. We left early, not just because of the restrooms and other campers. There was also not much to do since the lake is low and the swimming area is closed. There is no visitor center, shaded bird watching area or anything else to do during the hot part of the day.

Also, not great when you have a video conference that you forgot about while on the hike. It's okay, my coworkers got to see some Texas beauty. I actually came close to a prairie dog which I thought was a groundhog but I ran, (ironically I'm born on groundhog's day; does that even mean anything? lol). There is a posting not to feed them because they can get sick. I think someone must have fed one of them because he was lying pretty much lifeless in the grass. Po thang! There's lots of camping areas, group picnic sites, a boat ramp, disc golf, walking trails (um negative for me), equestrian camping, a dining hall, swimming area, fishing pier, parking everywhere and lots of BUGS!!!!

I've seen many beautiful beaches from Florida to Puerto Rico but this hike and midway views are the best, this particular hike is the first left turn inside the park (if I can find the actually name I will edit it in) it has a distinctive orange barn roof and fencing that you can't really miss, we did try and go to info where a sweet young girl pointed out this trail and way to many other things for us to follow along with so we went with this trail and have stuck to it, it can take 15 to 3 hours of hiking and exploring delinks on the type of hiker you are lol are you there for the exercise and views or the fresh air and appreciation you know!

We live 2 miles from the lake and it makes it super convenient to go fishing or boating, kayaking,…read moreor even paddle board. There is a place called Nowhere that rents out pontoons. There are so many places to camp throughout all of the roads by the lake. The south side of the lake is more of the park area the north west I would say is more residential people. We absolutely love it here.

It had a concrete pad, electricity and water, a picnic table and fire ring. The space is very large with grass and a large tree. We enjoyed our stay and would go back. All of the Oklahoma state parks we stayed at were clean and well maintained.

As far as lake swim beaches go, this park has the best one I have been to yet. I have been…read moreextremely disappointed with some other state park swim beaches so I was pleasantly surprised by Foss. All I can address is Sunset beach, as it is the only place in the park we visited. There are 5 cabanas on the beach that you can rent. However, if you don't want to pay to rent the cabana there are plenty of shade trees to set up under. So bring that hammock and relax! The beach is undead a sandy beach and it is safe to walk barefoot on as there is not any glass. Yay! We had a kayak and were able to use it right off the beach area. If you're in the city and need a place to go on the weekend you should check it out. Just remember, although a sand beach this is not Florida, this is Oklahoma. For Oklahoma this is a nice beach area

It was off season, March, so there were no kayak rentals but we walked along the lake and hiked in the wildlife refuge. We were there to see our grandson at Fort Sill so it was perfect. You do have to go through the base to get into LETRA so plan on getting a visitor pass.
