I have been coming here since I was little, brought my kids here and now my grandkids. It's always been so much fun to go and make memories, take pictures with beautiful backgrounds and such awesome fun...but today when we went, I thought why even waste our time anymore!? I had to take my walker down the handicapped ramp, which was a lot easier going down than coming back up! My granddaughter was so excited. I had two of my son's with me, my daughter, her husband and Kirie, my bright and energetic ray of sunshine. She just couldn't wait to get down the mountain to play on the big toy and put her feet in the creek as we have always done. When we got down there the first we noticed was the big play place had been taken down, nothing left but a big sand pit. We thought we'd take some pictures on the bridge and head on over to the waterfall and cave to play in the water. For generations people has been coming and enjoying the cave. Years of fun and fond memories have been made here. There was already people on both sides of the bridge in the smaller creek bed playing so we merged on. Up the mountain we saw signs posted and a big wooden fence blocking the waterfall and cave!? What is this? A fence? Why? For years kids have enjoyed this place, I've never known of anyone ever hurt here! I felt that new people have come in with their fancy signs and fences, taking away the swings and slides and leaving us with nothing. We got to the second bridge and my kids went to check out the pond. There were more people in the pond swimming, which was nice to hear..at least they haven't robbed us of all the watering spots...so we had wasted a trip. Why not work on making those bridges sturdier? My son-in-law found loose boards that's more hazardous to our safety! I knew those were the same bridges from over 20 years ago because I found the same names that were carved into them from back then. If they are so worried about safety, start there! Not get rid of all the good stuff! I couldn't make it across the second bridge so I waited for everyone to come back and we started heading back to the vehicle. It's so hard for me to get down here anymore, I don't know if I'll even try it again and absolutely not with its present state. My granddaughter was so unhappy, everyone was just so upset we spent all this time for nothing. We'll find another park to take her to I just think this is such a shame, the condition of this one and the loss of more memories. It's just so sad. read more

We went camping here Oct 2020! We drove up from Mustang, OK so it was a fairly short drive. The kids & puppy loved the "three springs trail" which was an easy walk, roughly 3/10 of a mile. Trail was in a circular path, with a little spring in the middle... the kids were excited about the "baby waterfalls." We booked a spot at the tent camping site, Beaver Dam, which was fairly empty at this time of year. There were teepees around the corner from us that could be rented out as well. The bathrooms were disgusting, I couldn't even let the kids use them... but otherwise it was perfect! Campsite had a grill, circle fire ring, and picnic table. read more

This is a lovely state park and it's not even all that hard to find. You just go past Watonga and turn left and voila! You're there. There are some nice trails, but they could definitely be better marked. I got lost, but not too much. My friends and I had hiked separately (they wanted the long hike and I wanted to meander). They got lost too. So obviously, if we got lost separately, things could be better marked and mapped. On the flip side it was gorgeous and peaceful and I found a great place to meditate. read more

Oklahoma's best kept secret! Well, one of them anyway. Originally curious about the unusual name, I visited and thoroughly enjoyed an overnight stay several years ago. Last Fall I returned with a friend to further explore the hiking trails and outdoor venues. We were disappointed that one of the lakes was drained for repairs, but pleased at the new restaurant concession in the lodge. Staff at Roman Nose is very cordial and the rooms are lovely. read more

More like Roman Nose State Narc Well, the park is pretty nice and I've played the golf course, I like it as well but today I had rented some cabins and planned on enjoying the day at the park, playing some golf then kicking back at the cabin and making dinner with my friends. However, when we went to check into the cabins they weren't ready which was no big deal but the kid behind the counter thought we smelled like weed or something and called the Ranger?! We drove around a bit and came back to Foggy Bottoms for lunch and the ranger was there, the kid is like "that's them" and runs into the back room. The Ranger then tells my buddy to come with him and asks him about smoking weed. We weren't smoking, hadn't been seen smoking, no smoking taking place. But we smelled like marijuana apparently. The ranger took all of our IDs and was in back with the kid for a while. He came out and said Roman Nose didn't want us in the park and had refunded our money for the cabins. Kind of a whacky ordeal. Ruined our day, and the park is now not getting the thousand dollars we would have spent on the cabins, in the restaurant and at the golf course. We weren't 'busted' smoking, they said we smelled like marijuana. We all have medical cards and I own a grow facility, I probably smell all the time. Anyways, the kid at the Roman Nose desk is a narc and doesn't want you to have fun. Just a heads up. read more

Every year my husband and his son plan a camping trip to a different Oklahoma park. This year we planned it for this weekend (Sept 18 & 19th) at Roman Nose State Park. I made a reservation several weeks ago online for a teepee for these dates. We received confirmation regarding this. My husband and his son get to the park to find out that the dam was under repair and lake was drained. There was no canoeing, no kayaking and no fishing. There was also no horseback riding available currently due to lack of staff. They did not find this out until they got there. This was not posted on the main page when we made the reservations, nor was it sent out in an email. Other than the hiking trails, there was nothing for them to do on this trip. (They are not golfers.) They specifically went to fish and ride horses. To make matters worse when they got to their teepee, someone was already in it. When they went and spoke with the lodge, they were told that someone else had also booked this teepee for the same weekend and there was nothing they could do about it. Eventually, they said they will credit the price of the reservation back to my card, but it will take 7-10 days. We shall see. There was a pond still there by the general store but the odor coming off that pond was unbearable. When they asked about fishing in that pond, the lady at the general store said they were trying to kill all the fish off in that pond so they can restock it. There is NO excuse for this lack of service. We are upset to say the least and will not be going back to Roman Nose, nor recommending it to anyone. read more

Roman Nose was a place from my childhood. I rediscovered it last year and have been going fairly often when the weather is nice. It's a small, well-maintained park that I think has something for just about everyone. I love to go kayaking/fishing at Lake Watonga, within the park's borders. It's too small for the crowd of drunken idiots in ski boats who blaze around playing AC/DC at full blast. But I'm getting old and cranky and forget I used to be one of them. Be sure and hike the trail that goes around the lake, its only about 5 miles (my guess) total and there are some nice views. They also have a riding stable, will have to check that out sometime. Its beautiful, quiet, the camping areas and bathrooms are well-maintained, and the ranger I met was very friendly. One of my favorite spots for a quiet weekend getaway that is close to home. read more

A tradition of Tiffany and mine is to travel somewhere out of the way that has some historic value for our anniversary. This year we chose Roman Nose State Park, and rented a room at the lodge. The park is very nice with great hiking trails that we explored. We also went over to the general store and rented a couple of kayaks and spent an hour gliding around the lake. It was great fun and it was an opportunity to try out kayaks (we had rented a canoe here years ago.) Lots of fish, birds, and other wildlife can be seen as you quietly paddle around the lake. The lodge was rebuilt several years ago and its very nice. As one can tell from our Yelp reviews, we travel a lot and stay in a lot of hotels. The room at the lodge has got to be one of the better rooms we have ever had! Very nicely furnished and planned out. We hated that we were only spending one night it was so nice. There is a patio with tables and chairs connected to the restaurant and after dinner (see the review for the restaurant) we moved outside and spent hours talking, watching the birds, lightening bugs, and finally the stars. If your looking for a great place for a getaway for a day or a week this is a hidden gem! They also have a great golf course (we don't golf) and I assume its good because it was always busy when we drove by! read more

Came up from Edmond with Venturing Crew 2021 for some camping, hiking, horseback riding and a Service Project. The staff is exceptionally friendly and accommodating. It was a tough weekend with wildfires all around and an unexpected cold snap. They were attentive and supportive or our concerns and supported our efforts. The campground was very clean and had plentiful fire pits. Bathrooms were generally clean but could use some work. They still be the porta-potty we normally take with us! Horseback staff did an outstanding job especially with our new riders. We will be back. Thanks!! read more

Roman Nose State Park is a great place to spend time camping! We stayed in one of the tipi's which was a lot of fun & a great experience! The folks who run both the general store & horseback riding facility are extremely welcoming and professional. The trail guides were both fun and informative. The ride was phenomenal. There are numerous hiking trails and are all kept up well. Bathrooms and facilities were very clean and the staff in the lodge was also very pleasant. The coffee in the lodge was very good. We had a great time and looking forward to a return trip! read more

Camping is all relative. Some people are used to no running water, no bathrooms & no cell service. Others need all of the above. We like to camp places with bathrooms & showers but cook all our food over the fire. Roman Nose meets all those things. There aren't a lot of tent sites but the ones they have are flat and clean. They each have a fire pit. Some have a metal grate to cook on while others don't. There is a store within the campground where you can buy ice, wood and some other items but be prepared to pay a little more. I like to get my wood from a farmer just outside of the campground on highway 8. The bathrooms aren't too bad if you don't mind spiders and the occasional scorpion on the wall. Keep in mind this is not a hotel. The ladies room ran out of TP so it doesn't hurt to bring your own just in case. There are paddle boats to rent & horseback riding. Overall I really like this campground. read more

We have been looking forward to trying Roman Nose for some time after our neighbors suggested it. It's had been frequently booked up, so we lucked out booking a last minute spot for the weekend. Overall we had a wonderful stay! The campground was clean and quiet, lots of activities to do including fishing, paddle boating, horseback riding, hiking, swimming etc. I'm rating it four stars due to some misinformation. Our spot was advertised 30a/50a, but when we arrived it was only a 30a hookup. We were fortunate that the spot had great tree coverage and allowed our trailer to stay cool. We had also inquired at the lodge about the community swimming pool since swimming in the lake was prohibited. The front desk attendant gave me a map circled the pool and where to park, but failed to mention the pool was completely shut down. They also removed all the playground equipment, which was a bummer. We did have a great stay, plenty to keep us busy, and found a few other campsites we love. We'll be back to visit Roman Nose State Park again! read more

This appears to be a beautiful, well cared for park, RV,tent, and already erected tepees park which is spread out with some camping sites being private and the majority fairly close to each other with no separating vegetation but still beautiful. Well kept camping spots with some that have full water, sewer, and electric hookups, and many that are primitive with no hookups. You can rent bikes, kayaks, paddle boats, and teepees with hard floors! Beautiful lake with fishing, great play grounds and trails that are well shaded and meander through the woods along the fresh water stream from the three springs. If camping in the wild is not your forte you can rent a cabin, (all being renovated as we speak) or a beautiful room in the fully renovated lodge with restaurant service! An absolutely stunning golf course is in the park as well. Pets allowed on a leash and 3.2 beer is welcome but anything stronger is "strictly prohibited". They have a general store and golf store in the park just in case you need warm clothes or other supplies. The park is about 1.5 hours from south Oklahoma City. There's a pool at the lodge and a larger pool within the park as well. All prices appear to be very reasonable! We scoped out the number of a few private camping spots for a return trip to do some tent camping, fishing, boating, hiking and all around what we consider fabulous family time! read more

Great golf course! We make the hour drive just to play golf here. Mad Monday's are $20 per person. Normally $35 with cart.

This would be a 3.5... The camp sites don't really have much privacy, and if you get a site looking at water expect lazy fishermen to block your views with their trucks that they drive 100' to fish all day. Three bathrooms are slightly terrifying. My wife reports hot water in the shower, but I only could get lukewarm in the men's. The trails are surprisingly nice, although the maps aren't super informative. The staff are very friendly. read more

My family and I have recently visited Roman Nose State park, and we absolutely loved it there. We spent most of our time there dealing with the General store and Stables. The horses look great, the ladies that work there are the kindest women we interacted with while on our visit. We plan to return in the next following months for more adventure. read more
