We hired Ohad to install a a wood handrail with fenney stainless cable railing to an existing wood deck that was built by a master wood framer about a year or two prior. The deck was done with tremendous quality and eye to detail but it was not installed by Ohad but by another GC. More on why I mention this point later. The price he quoted us was pretty high for the work but we looked at his reviews and said, "OK, let's just do it - he has great reviews." Heh. There's a saying if something seems too good to be true, it probaby IS too good to be true. Many of the wood posts that Ohad installed had to be reinstalled as the holes for the cables were mangled and didn't line up correctly, he didn't use metal inserts/sleeves to protect the wood, and they used wood that was inferior. There are templates for drilling holes to ensure that they line up: they didn't use this. Then we had issues where the cables were sagging shortly after they were installed. In a period of one year, we've had to have Ohad and/or his workers come out to tighten the cables numerous times. Yes, we are totally aware that cables need to be periodically tightened, but they installed the cables in such a way that it was unaccessible. They left us with zero instructions or tools to do this ourselves. I'd mentioned to Ohad that this should have been installed in a way that would allow us to do this ourselves, but he said we shouldn't need to do this ourself. He also said he'd done these installations before and couldn't understand why ours was having such issues. So on the 4th visit that we had from Ohad to fix the sagging cables, he starts to blame our deck builder, who was a master builder. Said that it was probably moving. He pulled out a 90-degree angle and checked just the bottom. It was square. He checked to top. It was square. A level on the top handrail showed it was level. The posts are plumb and do not move. So our deck is not the problem. The problem is the cable rail installation. His worker tightened the cables and did damage to one of the sleeves, cutting it off and tossing it into our yard. he didn't bother to replace the part he damaged. He also damaged one of the stainless cables. And he didn't repair the end of the handrail that wasn't installed correctly (see picture). We then had an authorized Fenney installer come out later the same day to view the work that was done (August 2023) and he said that what Ohad missed was to provide an appropriate tensioner that would allow us to tighten the cables ourselves. Simple fix, but did Ohad do this? Nope. We sent Ohad pictures of the issues that remained but he's ghosted us. He's a friendly dude, will talk your ear off about what a good job he's going to do for you, how he's going to make things right, and all good vibes and energy talk, but they are all empty promises in the end. Ohad's team is incapable of doing the best work as he sells you on as they simply lack the skills to do caliber work. Ohad also doesn't manage his team well. Many of the workers he sent to our project pretend as though they don't speak English and Ohad doesn't supervise them so bad work happens without any oversight or correction. We paid a premium for Ohad's work but the value wasn't there. We could have paid about $3K more for a custom fabricated stainless railing that would have been welded in place - and by a true well-known master metal worker/craftsman. We completely regret not having done that instead. Each time I look at our handrail that Ohad built, i can only feel sadness and anger for the ridiculous amount of money that we paid for substandard work. We are now in the position of having to have his work redone as it's become unsafe for our dogs. Avoid Quartz Construction. Premium cost for way too many headaches and shoddy work. Whatever you do don't hire these guys. I hired them to do bath remodeling and everything was done wrong. They ruined the Marble by cutting circles when they should have cut squares. Broke the vanities. The sinks still can't be used. The shower was installed backward and to top it off they left my back yard and house a mess with white drywall dust throughout the house. Everything was crooked, we had to buy marble that did not match. It was and still is a disaster. I have documentation and pictures of all the work and plan to finally sue them before the 4th years is up. They gave me a 10K refund of the 25K but nothing works. I have about 100 photos of the mess. Posting new photos, wait to you see my wife closet with all the white dust on all her expense clothes. She probably spent $500 dollars getting them cleaned. Will provided photos on tomorrows post. I was tired of people returning my calls and telling me they had a 25K minimum to even come give me a quote. We needed a smaller renovation turning two rooms in our home into a mother-in-law suite- (Although once I saw how good he was I added another item to the project and it got bigger, and I am glad I did). Ohad was prompt, showed up early for every meeting, had a quote for me on the spot, and was downright eager to accommodate our every idea. He told me when he thought something might not work, but even then came with an assured can-do attitude, and he hit every timeline early or on time. He did a few extra things for us gratis as well, such as painting a doorframe and installing a handrail for my mother that wasn't in the extra quote, and it wasn't slid onto the contract at a later date at a high rate. It just got done, and quickly. My sister had just had a renovation done on her home and she was absolutely shocked at how fast they got in there, how responsive they were to any changes we discussed, and how positive they were the whole time. Have you ever had a contractor who seemed to not want to be working for you? Showing up late, adding charges, making you feel stupid or guilty or needy for wanting to change something small on the spot? Ohad and his main guy Santiago were about as can-do as I have ever met. I pointed out something I didn't like- the cut of a window frame- and it was taken care of IMMEDIATELY, and without any complaint or resistance, just enthusiastic effort. We added a big item to the project at the last minute and they literally had it underway the next day. He took extra time to make sure he understood what I wanted, not rushing me at all. I found the price to be very fair- to the point that even though we had ended up buying some of the material that was in the original quote to be purchased by them, I left the original amount as a little extra for them, because I was so happy (and relieved- I have dealt with a lot of contractors in my life as my father was a developer) with the work and the effort. Everyone in his crew was nice, respectful, and worked their butts off. I always pay attention to when people arrive and leave a jobsite, and I didn't even think about it after the third day or so, because the work got done much faster than I expected. Do you know how rare it is for a contractor to finish early, even when you add things to the project? Ohad is out there to do good things, and appreciates the satisfaction of doing quality work. I am so happy I used Yelp in this case, even though it can be annoying. Quartz Construction was excellent on our project and I feel great about recommending them to others. If you are even remotely thinking about hiring this company for spending your hard earned, life savings for your dream project, my sincere advise from my own dreadful experience is DON'T DO IT. My experience was and continue to be a nightmare. As I made this mistake going with this company for my major house remodel ,which I had planned for and saved money for a long time, but now I am stuck with issues across all the areas they worked on and every day I find myself regretting the decision and cursing this company, my fate, seeing and dealing with the issues every day. My house has become a neighborhood joke and a cautionary tale about remodel mistakes to avoid. I learned the hard way that with this company, the only thing that matters is maximizing their own profit. PERIOD. which means pressuring into changing the scope last minute, hiring very cheap , incapable , inexperienced labor, not paying them as promised on time or paying very little, making them resentful and as payback they do a bad job, or simply walk away from the job. Moreover there is no quality check or monitoring or inspections scheduled , simply shows up to collect check and if questioned about the quality and delays, it's like dealing with the mafia boss. Of course I should have been more courageous and deeply involved to kick them out right in the beginning or enforce timely inspections, question them to catch issues promptly. But that's why we hire and trust these companies right ? Because we have our regular jobs to do. In my case this trust was 100% shattered and I find myself not trusting anybody anymore. Just to name a few issues I am finding after the remodel was as so called "completed" my skylights installation started leaking all over the kitchen, blew up my recessed lighting, due to other roofer review I found that there was no weatherproofing done by the cheap installer he hired who just skipped all the weatherproofing work to maximize his profit. There is no proof of inspection performed. Laundry relocation to garage : crew left a big hole from crawl space into the garage which led rats entering the garage and now I dealing with rat infestation. Attic space barrier from garage into rest of the area broken and never covered , so infestation now spreads all over the house, and now all of us losing sleep every night. Garage completion work and expectations were discussed well in advanced with his associate , but he spend 2 hours to force me into changing the scope, leading to unpleasant, aggressive back and forth so he can save cost on the bloody lumber and labor. Keeps adding to the disappointment . Apparently additional electric sub panel was added for distributing the load, now we intermittently lose power to part of the house requiring hard power reset. Shower basically becomes pool of water due to inaccurate slope . Incorrectly installed my Grohe shower system , now it just throws out extreme hot water Crews do not follow the instruction for installing the fixtures, windows and when corrected , become agitated and aggressive due to rework. Multiple cabinet doors were scratched and dented External smooth stucco work is the biggest joke of all where people can see weirdness and bumps from the street, Despite the fact I had showed him a great , professional stucco job across the street multiple times. Goal was to shove something down my throat as fast as possible and get paid. Internal smooth stucco started showing cracks within 6 months. And the list goes on and on.,, worst part is when contacted about these issues, there is no sense of responsibility and accountability, or offer to help resolve rather I was told to contact the horrible sub contractors he hired and deal with it myself. Currently I am working on filing a complaint with the city licensing board to report all these issues, possible actions to take and at least hold these guys accountable. With this review , I hope to find peace knowing I potentially saved someone ton of pain and headaches and getting defrauded. We hired Ohad and his team for a large remodeling project which involved installing a new vaulted ceiling (removing the attic completely), renovating a family room, and installing new structural support in the master bedroom. On top of that, there were many additional smaller jobs, including installing a new downdraft range hood, moving the HVAC, installing skylights, and putting in a new pocket door, just to name a few. The entire process was executed very timely and Quartz helped us get through the arduous permit process as well. While the initial estimate did increase, Ohad was very succinct about why and the additional work it involved when the initial plans had to be changed due to regulations. In the end, the work speaks for itself; what we received was our dream remodel exactly as how we had envisioned it. One piece of advice: be as specific and detailed as possible from the onset as to the remodel you want. Ohad is not one to beat around the bush, but he will definitely deliver! Addendum: I also want to add after the job was done, we had some trouble with our HVAC. Choosing the right contractor for a project is probably the most important decision that you'll make when it comes to remodeling. There is no doubt that choosing Quartz Construction as contractor for our project was the right decision. Ohad, Afeefa, and their team were excellent! Our project was to transform our main living space: kitchen, family room, dining room, and adding a powder room. Ohad and Afeefa made themselves available for consultation and questions several times before we made a decision on which contractor to go with. I do not think others would've done the same for us. Once we decided on Quartz, Ohad and Afeefa were flexible as to when we wanted to start our project. Quartz provided a duration of 2 months to complete the renovation. They did not disappoint. They were ahead of schedule! When was the last time anyone's experience that! During the renovation, we decided to have the external front of our home refaced and repainted. They did that within the same 2-month time-frame! Our renovation was completed ahead of time, and we were able to start moving back a few days ahead of schedule.
