I don't know anything about vacuums, well, I didn't until I was educated by Sam. She was great. I went in because the Hoover I got from Amazon less than 2 years ago for $200 was giving off a burning smell after 30 second of use, I checked the belt and it was fine. So, I asked around and got referrals to Quality Sewing and Vacuum from family members. I CAN'T RECOMMEND THEM ENOUGH!!! I dropped off my vacuum and 3 days later I got the results, Bad Motor, then came the education on why it happened. Not once did they bad mouth my purchase and by correlation ME for buying it. Instead, just gave me an education on vacuums. OK well now I need a new vacuum. So, I asked which one is best and Sam countered with a series of questions. Kids? Dogs? Allergies? Carpet only or wood/vinyl flooring? I was fully prepared for her to recommend their $1,600.00 model. That is NOT what happened. Based on the questions she asked like "why did you buy your last vacuum?" She showed me a model that fit all my needs and was $1,100 less than what I expected her to recommend. Oh, did I mention they didn't even charge me a diagnosis fee on my original vacuum (the one that had a bad motor). If you're looking for a "vacuum place' look no further! Quality sewing and vacuum has been my go to store for decades now. I love sew fun - inspiring ideas from the presenters as well as everyone who shares their projects. Our Northgate store is great - it's like going into the Cheers bar where everybody knows your name. I'm always greeted when I walk in the store by name. The staff readily shares their knowledge, assistance (whether machine related, notion related or opinions on fabrics etc). The classes and special events offer even more opportunities to learn - I've made several sewing friends which inspires me to do more. I just took an Intro to Sewing: Learn your Machine class at this location and I thought I knew the basics but just needed a brush up. Nope! We covered SO. MUCH. And I learned about 5 things I've been doing wrong all along with my sewing, or that had easier ways to complete than how I was doing it. The class included proper threading, learning the specifics of your machine, settings for tension/stitch/spacing, basics for fabric types and the considerations there, some tools for beginners and how to use the basic foot attachments that come with your machine. Honestly, I'll probably go back to the same class just to make sure everything from this class sinks in before advancing! I ordered blades for my Scan n Cut last August, by November when they hadn't come in (and I checked often), I asked for a refund and ordered them overnight from Amazon. I recently took an Intro to Sewing class here. In this class you will learn how to use one one of their machines and how to make a tote. If you are brand new to sewing this is a good course just to get a feel for it. I was hoping to learn more about the different types of threads, stitches, and equipment/tools but that is probably offered in another class. I think 3 hours was a little long but it did take the whole time due to equipment failure/troubleshooting and questions from participants. You can bring in your own machine but no one in my class did. There is a 10% discount given on purchases for attending the class. read more

Brought my seven-year-old Miele Complete C3 Brilliant Canister Vacuum in for repair. They sent it off to their technician (who I believe is down in Tukwila), and a couple weeks later I got it back working like new again with a new motor and other components, all fixed under warranty. As they recently closed we went to the Northgate store for the first time and are seriously considering driving to Bellevue or Everett next time we need something. We were picking up a serviced machine, but had some shopping we wanted to do. The employee brought our machine out by the front door, gave us the paperwork, and essentially kicked us out, pointing out that another employee was holding thedoor open. She was peppy yet cold. Just experienced fantastic customer service at sewing and vacuum. The location next to the Ballard market closed so I tried the northgate store. My sewing machine jammed up completely and I was at a loss as to how to fix (I hadn't sewed in several years). Called sewing and vacuum and they had me bring my machine right in. Wonderful customer service by Esther. She patiently explained how to properly thread my bobbin (the crux of why it had jammed was an incorrectly threaded bobbin). She cleared out the jammed thread, got me correctly re threaded, got all of the lint out of my machine (looked like the inside of a dryer vent in there!), even replaced my bent needle. She also gave me lots of tips for making sure I'm more successful in the future. Apparently if the machine is really broken it needs to be sent out for repair, but if it's simple they fix it in store free. All I had to buy was some thread (I was using the wrong kind, adding to my issues!) and the needle. And now I'm on my way again with a smooth as butter machine like 15 minutes later. A Community Asset It must have been 4 years ago that I bought a Brother Innovis sewing machine from these people on the recommendation of their staff. That was one of the best values I have ever purchased. It's unbelievable how much this machine does, how easily, and how reliably. It has a couple of quirks as does any machine, but once you know those and can allow for them, it is a dream. I have done more and better sewing because of it. It won't be cheap if it ever needs repair, but their staff was correct about this being a winner. It helps, by the way, that their staff sews, which means, they can speak my language and understand my concerns when I am buying a machine. We're lucky to have this operation here. Trust them with your business. As a retired senior without a car, I use Amazon for lots of things, but for a sewing machine I want someone local who services what they sell. read more

My older, average, sewing machine was not functioning well, so I took it in to see if it was me, or the machine. Esther Sterling corrected my upside down bobbin, replaced my incompatible needle, adjusted the tension, AND made me feel like all of this could have happened to anyone (ha!)!! We recently bought the Sebo Airbelt E vacuum cleaner after exploring all our options at their Seattle store as well as what what we'd researched online. It wasn't what we originally had in mind and the price was sticker shock, but after using it a few weeks, it's a huge difference in ease of use and cleanliness of both carpet and wood floors! You get what you pay for and the warranty is outstanding. The design is well thought out and makes it easy to navigate around furniture and floors. There are so many improvements in design and features over our previous vacuum cleaners. I especially like the retractable cord, foot operated on/off button, swiveling attachments that effortlessly get into corners, easy bag replacement design, telescoping tube length, and the brush roller with no belt to replace! Our carpets haven't looked this good since new. What has always been a chore, is now so rewarding I'm actually vacuuming more often. The advice and demonstration Esther gave us in the store was both helpful and spot on for what would serve us best in our home and lifestyle. I do enjoy the women who work here, but I am greatly disappointed in the repair service. I took my older Bernina machine in for service, and waited 6 weeks, only to be told it needed over $500.00 in parts. I requested they not do anything to it, got my machine back, and it wasn't even able to make a stitch. It worked just fine when I left it there, it was just a bit noisy, thus the service. I discovered another Sewing and Vacuum place two months later, which did the service for half the price of Quality Sewing, it took only a few days and NO PARTS were needed! It needed the timing adjusted and the tension re-set. Beware if you take your machine in for "service" here. I'd give them one star, but their staff is very nice and thorough. Their service technicians are questionable. read more

When I walked up to the front she took her time to walk over to unlock the door for me on a visibly windy and cold day, going as far as to stop midway unlocking and finish whatever she was saying to another coworker. The whole interaction left a bad taste in my mouth and it's worth noting I was the only non white person in the store. I brought my year old XP2 in for service, the Manager Cerise put a rush repair on my machine. She knows I sew 8 hours + every day. My XP2 was back with back to home 6 days later. It has been paid for 19 days ago! This machine was $5000.00 Waiting to see if it gets here in 1 piece! I needed to order another machine but I think I will go elsewhere due to the run around I got from this company. If I ran my two businesses like this I would loose customers very fast, and I have been in business for 15 plus years with one company and 30 years with the other company. UPDATE 10/5/2020 At first I was told this shipment would be sent UPS and then told it was shipping freight due to the size of the box they really meant boxes 2 boxes that could have been shipped UPS but it was not so me and my disabled husband had to get this off of a very large box truck it was on a skid bust down the boxes off of the skid and take them in a box at a time the driver of the truck doesn't help. SO anyway if you order from this company be prepared to deal with large stuff on your own cause you wont have help! Furthermore the reply I got back from the company on my first review they act like I was the one not understanding about the delays due to covid I HAVE 2 COMPANIES I understand the delays due to covid It was the lack of communication from this company that made me give the 1 star review. They also wanted to know if I wanted thread or what they could do to make it right I don't want to feel like I am being bribed by a company to change my review, I just believe in being honest. I do believe in small "mom and Pop" businesses for I am one to because of this my morals and upbringing I will continue to shop with Quality Sewing and Vacuum I just hope they get their communications better with their customers. My most recent experience was at the Northgate location (Lisa Micone), but I have similarly stellar examples that make this a company-wide norm. They go the extra, extra mile to make sure people can happily use our machines. This time it was a sewing machine that needed a look-see. In the past they (Jamison Collins) rescued my Miele. My Pfaff sewing machine sounded as if the motor was grinding, so I brought it to Quality Sewing and Vacuum at Northgate, thinking it would definitely need major repair. Esther saved the day. She listened patiently to my explanation of how it had been performing and tested my machine. She quickly diagnosed the problem as simply needing oil. I took my first sewing class today at QS&V Northgate. The last time I took a sewing class was over 20 years ago, so I walked in feeling like I had two thumbs. The teacher (Savannah) was great at juggling the class of 8, all beginners with a lot of newbie questions. Despite, several mistakes, I never felt rushed or made to feel badly. I was encouraged to go at my own pace and ask any questions I needed to. I walked out of the class feeling great, with new skills and a cool handmade bag. I am looking forward to future classes. A few years ago, my mom mailed me a sewing machine. I figure she couldn't stomach the thought of having a daughter who couldn't sew, blasphemy. Used, unglamorous, dusty machine in tow, I entered this harbor in my sewing-less tempest, and asked for help. Twice. Both times, the salesperson was really helpful and knowledgeable in providing a quick fix, a little instruction, and ultimately recommending a (free!?!!) "learn to use your machine" class provided at any of their locations. They seemed pressed for time in each instance, but I appreciated their help and not pushing me into buying a more beautiful, more expensive, and less mom-given machine. N.B. I took the sewing class today and Shelley at the Ballard location was great. She exuded patience and tough love, and I learned how to do every basic thing myself (threading the machine, winding the bobbin, and finally sewing- a must-do for inexperienced sewers). Very nice staff. Helpful and knowledgeable. Went their to get couple of vacuum cleaners: one for hardwood floors and one for carpets. Purchased Riccar upright and canister vacuums. Purchased vacuums at the end of the October. Had a problem with the canister vacuum - it stopped working. Brought back to the store and left it for the repair. Store called after 4 days, vacuum repaired and it will cost me nothing since it is still under warranty. Can't guarantee that the prices are great since didn't compare with other places but if you want great service and honest reliable business this was the place for me, hope it will be for others as well :) ... read more

I stumbled upon this place when I first started my sewing machine research. I was actually trying to find the Bernina dealer around the corner, but I was so charmed by the great service from Matt that I started to reconsider. He was polite, funny, and sincerely willing to help me--he even pointed me in the direction of the Bernina dealer! I initially had about a $400 budget and he showed me a very nice Brother sewing machine that fit the bill. He encouraged me to shop around, which I appreciated, and made sure I left with a pamphlet of information. Later, when I called with questions, he was extremely helpful. I didn't end up buying my machine from this particular location because the Kirkland store is much closer and I had logged several hours of research there with Valerie's help. I suspect they get commission on machines they sell, so I wanted to be fair and make sure I purchased from the person who spent the most time helping me... though I didn't always appreciate the higher pressure sales techniques the manager used in the Kirkland store. I'm happy with my choice (a Husqvarna Viking 875) and I'd gladly send a friend to either location. But if you come here, make sure you get help from the tall British guy. You won't regret it! read more
