The sign that the EXIT door doesn't work.
    Tim F.

I have stayed in a few low Quality Inns before. This one is by far the worst. Worst price, worst in cleanliness. Trash and debris inside and out. Exit doors that don't work. I mean how hard is it to get an exit door to work??? Hard enough that they had to put up a sign about it. Strange bug on the bathroom floor. But what takes the cake is what they tried to pass off as bedding or a comforter. The pillows were so hard that my ears hurt and woke me up every 30 mins and had to roll over. But the comforter... was literally ripped open and the stuffing was falling out on my face all night. See the photo. What kind of housekeeper actually made this bed and thought that it was ok!??? I've never been to prison but I'm sure they have better bedding. Please shut down this dump and get into another line of work!!!

Very nice staff, clean room and decent free morning breakfast. Nice indoor pool. I would stay here again.

Worst hotel I've ever checked into. I said checked in because I didn't actually stay here, checked in the my first room and it's stunk to high heaven of smoke even though they claimed it was a non-smoking room. They quickly offered me a different room which did not smell like smoke but when I turned on the AC there was a heavy mold smell and it started to give me a headache. There was mold in both bathrooms, drywall that need to be repaired, one of the main exit had damage to the frame. I honestly don't know how it is still open, to help inspectors not go there? All of the problems being said the staff was extremely helpful and understanding. Try to do everything they could to make it so I could stay there, and when I couldn't they quickly processed my refund while I was loading up and were apologetic. I ended up driving a couple extra hours and finding a holiday inn express.

This hotel needs the franchise director or general manager to refund every customer that stayed in any of the ( PET ) rooms with an Service Dog before an class action law suit. ADA guidelines strictly say : " You can not discriminate between an Disabled person with an service dog and an guest without an Service Dog. " We were forced to accept an room (#223) After seeing the first floor rooms designed to PETS and Smokers . We went down stairs to ask why this room smells like smoke and they kindly stated its been converted from Smoking to Non Smoking. Its unbearable to smell the room without having to go to store to get air freshener. Secondly room is moldy and paint flaking off walls. Third sink stops up when running water and it won't get hot. Tub/shower curtain dirty and soiled. Last when you call in for rate : quote $109 for Double Queen/ Non Smoking Online offers ($70-80) Desk clerk was polite she just started working here so it's not her fault.

I would NOT recommend this Quality Inn to anyone. It was not clean. It was run down. We accidentally booked a smoking room. It was nasty but that was our fault. I gave it a 2 Star because we slept and showered there. It served our purpose. We did not eat the breakfast there

Currently under renovation. Call before you book. In room fridge, micro, coffee. Clean rooms, ok beds. Older furniture & carpeting. First room had damaged tv and non working AC. Very nice desk clerk moved us to another room the next day. Slow process being checked in. Older property, no elevator. Indoor pool being redone and not open. Laundromat and car wash next door. Supermarket next block. Several fast food within walking distance. Water turned off mid day for plumbers but was not off very long. Breakfast was cereal, muffins, frozen burritos. Better than most offerings. Stayed three nights so it wasn't that bad. Good luck to the owner trying to better the property and remain open.

There is a bar and restaurant at the hotel and both are fantastic. There is NO elevator. You have to schlep your bags, all of them, to the 2nd floor. We are not young people, it was not an easy trek. There is no help. The rooms are lovely. Spacious bathrooms, blow dryers, comfy mattress and lots of pillows. There is a train immediately behind the hotel that runs pretty much non stop, day and night. We opted to sleep with the windows open to enjoy the gorgeous weather. At around 10 pm a train blasted the horn and scared me death (hub slept through it lol). After that just the rails, no horn. We will always stay at the La Posada. We will plan in advance for a ground floor room.

It was also designed by a female architect, something that was not common at all at that time (or even now, sadly). Lots of movie stars and even presidents have stayed here and the property has a long, interesting history, you can read about. At present, there is a literal train stop at the back of the hotel, just about 100 feet away. Really. If train noises at all hours--and I do mean at ALL hours--bothers you, make sure you specifically ask for a room far, far away from the train tracks. We were about mid-way from the tracks and could hear trains all night long. Yes, each room has ear plugs but not everyone wants to wear those things. The hotel has a very nice looking restaurant and bar (and they do have a happy hour) and the bar doubles as a coffee house in the morning, which is smart business. We didn't eat at the restaurant, mostly because the dinner prices were off the charts, although I would have liked to have done so. The lunch prices seem more reasonable. The property itself has a beautiful courtyard and a large room they call a "ballroom" and lots of spaces for exploring. They also have many free board games set about which you can use. At the back of the property, facing the train stop, there are chairs set about if you want to relax and/or watch the trains. Apparently, there are roving skunks, too, so keep that in mind. Personally, I would have liked to have seen a wild skunk or two (are there any domesticated skunks?). Our room was delightful. The entire property has a Southwestern theme and decor. During our visit, they had some absolutely wild art hung about here there and everywhere. Perhaps this art is up permanently. I love art but some of it, apart from just being on the weird side, was also somewhat political and, frankly, I think distracted from the beauty of this place. I would stay here again...but only if I was located far, far from the trains at night.

Instead, I broke up my stays between two hotels. The Winslow appears to be a newer hotel in the area. Since I was busy with the tournament, I didn't get a chance to explore much of the hotel. My room was clean and had a king bed, flat screen TV, small desk, mini closet, and more. It was plenty spacious for me and would be spacious for two people as well. The bathroom featured a large shower and large sink. Like one Yelper mentioned, the bathroom fan stays on the whole time. I've never experienced that before, but once I closed the door, I couldn't really hear it anymore. The hotel includes a hot breakfast with your stay which I took advantage of right before checking out. The buffet offered eggs, sausage, potatoes, pastries, fruit, juice, coffee, and more. There's also a bar that offers drinks and food. I slept well and had no issues during my stay. Every staff member I encountered was pleasant and helpful.

It was nice that we didn't have to drive somewhere to have dinner and a cocktail. The hotel was recently remodeled, the rooms were decorated nicely and the bed was comfortable. The reason we will not return is because the fan in the bathroom cannot be turned off, it is very loud. So we had to shut the door to block the sound, that could be ok except when it's dark and you have to find your way to the bathroom. The second reason we would not go back is because the air conditioner unit is very loud. Every time it came on it would wake us.

It's also located quite a bit off the freeway, which is nice because you get a decent night's sleep. Right across the street is small lounge and restaurant. Had cocktails that night in the lounge (no food there after 8pm) and a pretty typical diner breakfast in the lounge the next day. The Desert Sun Motel is a nice little oasis in the desert.

Being able to not take interstate highways for a lot of the trip AND having no clue where we were going to spend each night was something we looked forward to. Arriving late afternoon in Winslow we drove slowly past the Desert Sun Motel. The rooms were in a semi circle around a huge pea gravel parking area. We checked in to room 22 and I must say that it was one of the nicest budget places we have stayed in a long time. At $40 including taxes, this was not the cheapest place we stayed in, but the room was one of the best. It had recently been remodeled and the bathroom was just like home ... spacious, nice tile, well lit ... really clean and roomy. The bedroom had a most comfortable mattress and armoir, sitting chair with ottoman and TV. The room had a very neutral odor ... no cover ups here ... and very quiet during the evening. Driving through Winslow might scare most people off from stopping, but take the time to walk around, have a cup of coffee and definitely stay overnight at the Desert Sun. Nice managers and nice motel. You will think you are back in the 50's again.

Given that I was driving from the LA area to Chicago, this was my first stop. I arrived at 12:45am (the night of 12/30, early early morning 12/31), and walked into the lobby where no one was to be found. I waited for over 20 minutes there after many attempts to call them with the coffee phone provided, as well as ringing the bell, and calling from my personal phone - NO ANSWER, NOBODY. After a very long day of driving and being up early, I was very unsure what to do as all I needed was a bed to sleep in since I had another long drive the next day. I called the Quality Inn down the road since they are apart of the same group that owns Econolodge, and the guy didn't know what to tell me and basically told me to call a main number for help since they had no vacancies. That number did not get me connected to anyone since it wasn't during normal business hours. Long story short, I ended up staying at a Quality Inn in Holbrook (a 35 minute from there) and didn't get to bed until well after 2pm. I also ended up paying more than triple than what I initially paid which they will not refund me for which I find strange considering it was their fault I was put in this predicament. I was very displeased and it makes me disappointed to have even signed up with Choice Hotels.
