I've heard about this place for years and finally found myself around the corner…read more The hotel is stunning in architecture, gardens and the general public area. The staff are friendly, helpful and welcoming. The area is a very good visual representation of a bye-gone era. Plenty of free parking

I am torn on this place.. Now granted for the area.. It's about your only option for a nice place…read more. The Staff are super friendly and the place is old, but well kept to a boutique style hotel.. It's old old school.. If you struggle with carrying your luggage up two long flights of stairs, request ground floor.. There is no elevator.. Just FYI.. We were put in the smallest room they have.. Didn't know that until we were told that checking out.. They weren't even fully booked.. The room was small.. The Clark Gable Room.. Who ever stuck us in that room wasn't very nice, just saying.. The bed was hard and difficult to sleep on and the pillows didn't make it much easier either..Also there is only one outlet to charge phones on. There is only a charger/outlet on the table next to sink area. The air conditioner had one speed and didn't cool very well.. It was only 98 degrees outside.. I will tell you the shower room was seperate from the sink which was nice.. The shower was spacious and comfortable to shower in.. The lavender soap is nice too.. The towels were super thick and nice.. Had we been in a bigger or more comfortable room i probably would have given more stars.. To be honest.. Probably won't stop here again..

So this place is pretty much a cool find. It looks like it's been recently purchased by new owners…read moreand their working hard at cleaning it up. It was very affordable ($45 a night) and the bed was SUPER comfortable. Each room has small fridge and microwave. Soft, fluffy white towels and is cozy. There's also a wardrobe and a comfy chair and soft sheets. I was pretty shocked the room was so nice cause the outside isn't so great. It's also located quite a bit off the freeway, which is nice because you get a decent night's sleep. Right across the street is small lounge and restaurant. Had cocktails that night in the lounge (no food there after 8pm) and a pretty typical diner breakfast in the lounge the next day. The Desert Sun Motel is a nice little oasis in the desert.

Traveling from California to St. Louis, Mo on old Route 66 was something we had been planning for a…read morelong time. Being able to not take interstate highways for a lot of the trip AND having no clue where we were going to spend each night was something we looked forward to. Arriving late afternoon in Winslow we drove slowly past the Desert Sun Motel. The rooms were in a semi circle around a huge pea gravel parking area. We checked in to room 22 and I must say that it was one of the nicest budget places we have stayed in a long time. At $40 including taxes, this was not the cheapest place we stayed in, but the room was one of the best. It had recently been remodeled and the bathroom was just like home ... spacious, nice tile, well lit ... really clean and roomy. The bedroom had a most comfortable mattress and armoir, sitting chair with ottoman and TV. The room had a very neutral odor ... no cover ups here ... and very quiet during the evening. Driving through Winslow might scare most people off from stopping, but take the time to walk around, have a cup of coffee and definitely stay overnight at the Desert Sun. Nice managers and nice motel. You will think you are back in the 50's again.

Pretty dissatisfied with this place. We came in after a long day of driving and were expecting a…read morecheap stay. Their website said our room would be under $50. We came in and answered all the questions we were asked about how many people and if we had a dog. It was upsetting to find out we had to pay so much extra for having a dog. When we got into the room there was a used towel hanging in the bathroom and a wash cloth shoved in the top right corner of the room door (maybe a quick fix to something but it looks tacky). The beds were hard and the pillows were uncomfortable.

Very disappointed with this hotel. I had made reservations for this Econo Lodge in Winslow, AZ over…read morea week prior to arrival and found a good rate so decided I would go with this one. Given that I was driving from the LA area to Chicago, this was my first stop. I arrived at 12:45am (the night of 12/30, early early morning 12/31), and walked into the lobby where no one was to be found. I waited for over 20 minutes there after many attempts to call them with the coffee phone provided, as well as ringing the bell, and calling from my personal phone - NO ANSWER, NOBODY. After a very long day of driving and being up early, I was very unsure what to do as all I needed was a bed to sleep in since I had another long drive the next day. I called the Quality Inn down the road since they are apart of the same group that owns Econolodge, and the guy didn't know what to tell me and basically told me to call a main number for help since they had no vacancies. That number did not get me connected to anyone since it wasn't during normal business hours. Long story short, I ended up staying at a Quality Inn in Holbrook (a 35 minute from there) and didn't get to bed until well after 2pm. I also ended up paying more than triple than what I initially paid which they will not refund me for which I find strange considering it was their fault I was put in this predicament. I was very displeased and it makes me disappointed to have even signed up with Choice Hotels.
