We had Sean's crew handle a few jobs for us last year: re-finishing some 30- and 70-year-old oak…read moreflooring in our house, replacing our front door, and installing waterproof laminate flooring in our garage. Each flooring job took about three days, and the front door took one day. Sean and Mark were pleasant to work with, and our floors look brand-new a year later. We have a very energetic puppy, and so far, his claws haven't left a single scratch on the floors. Mark's attention to detail, in particular, deserves praise. He spent hours filling in small holes in some vintage floors, and they look spectacular. Sean also went with us to Home Depot, and walked us through different door options. This was above and beyond what he needed to do. Our house has some seasonal shifting, thanks to Bay Area soils, and Sean and Mark came out a few times, free of charge, to make adjustments to our doors as our foundation shifted with the rainy and dry seasons. I highly recommend them.

I am regretting that I have to write this review, since I really liked Sean. He seemed like a very…read morenice guy. Initially, we were extremely pleased with how he treated us. He was polite, responsive, on time. He came with his wife to talk through the job, and we were sure we would receive an excellent final product. He talked about how great of a quality product we would be getting from him. And even later, when we had run into problems, he promised to make up for all the problems we had encountered with his work, thanking us for the opportunity to let him react to our complaints - but in the end we simply stopped hearing from him and nothing ever happened. Unfortunately the workmanship was very flawed. It was in stark contrast to the quality that he had advertised when he bid for the job. Boards were installed crooked, completely out of level (see pictures when you click the business name). We ended up with huge gaps in between boards, our door was damaged since he tried to trim it from the wrong side and it was never fixed, and the materials he offered to fix those problems were totally inappropriate, as if a layman selected them. Here are a few examples: - In numerous areas we have large and uneven gaps between single boards, as big as 1/4" where the wood wasn't cut properly by one of his employees. Sean admitted he was 'embarrassed' to see those areas, but promised to fix them himself. However, what he came up with was to use a pinkish material as a 'filler' that looked nothing like our wood floor. I looked at the tube, and instead of wood filler it was kitchen caulk! Pink kitchen caulk for hardwood floors. Never heard back from Sean, and we are left with these huge crooked gaps that cannot be fixed. - Our entire hallway wood is so warped that we don't know how our new contractor will be able to tie in the remaining areas. Please look at the attached pictures. - Sean himself tried to trim our door to adjust for the height of the new floor. However, first he mistakenly tried to cut the door from the top instead of the bottom. He left a huge saw cut along the entire top side, but he didn't tell us about it. Instead, we had to ask, and he said "yeah, that was me" and then promised to fix it. That didn't work, and he gave up, after trying to use a wood filler he had bought. He offered to pay to have it painted. He never did. So now we have a door with a saw cut across the top. - Sean installed wood over a trap door for our crawl space, but when he came back to install the baseboards he sealed it the door shut by mounting the base boards such that the door wouldn't open anymore. -Our baseboard were installed with large gaps which required a lot of caulking to fill and the result is sloppy looking. -Short pieces of wood were used frequently, when instead floors should be installed with long pieces. Seams were created right in the middle of doorways. See pictures. -We never heard from Sean again, after according to his own words, he was "embarrassed" and "going to take care of all of this". We had to hire someone else to finish the rest of our house.

So I wrestled with wanting to write this review, but at this point Bill has my money and he's not…read morereturning to fix anything. I just got back from my garage that has water leaking in from a door Bill installed. I find it strange that in this sea of 5 and 4 star reviews, I'm the only one who's going to be writing a negative review. I found out about Bill from seeing another house in the neighborhood. It was a good job on that house, just not mine. Let's begin at the quote process. Bill walked around our house with my wife and I to get an idea of how much work needed to be done. On our front porch the roofer had used nails too long, and they stuck through the OSB. "No problem! I can grind those down and make it smooth!" he offered. I didn't ask, but he offered so I thought this was a part of what was going to be in the quote. More on this later. He sat down with my wife, and they selected colors. Later my wife said that Bill would contradict her choices, opting for lighter colors. More on this later. Bill asked me to move things away from the wall by about 10 feet, and I did this. More on this later. My garage door had a few dents in it, Bill said he could fix it, I asked him if I knocked them out myself, would he not charge me. More on this later. Bills crew arrived in the middle of the worst heat wave of 2023. They did 2 hours of prep work and left. "It's too hot" Over the course of several more days, they'd come later (10ish) work for 2 hours, then leave because it was "too hot" The process started with them pressure washing the house. Standard. Yet one guy spent way too much time on the awning in the backyard, and sprayed mud and leaves all over a pile of tools that I had moved from the wall per bills instructions. They started to paint, but my wife and I would notice spots where they completely missed paint. Again, 2 hour days. They'd say, "Oh we're all done!" and we'd point out what was wrong to Bills foreman. We started to call Bill (who had been absent since the work started) and he just kept saying, "Talk to my foreman" Look dude, I'm calling you because he's doing shoddy work. The door I had installed wasn't installed correctly at all. The threshhold at the bottom bowed when you stepped on it because there was nothing holding it up. It just kind of hung in the air by a few centimeters. The garage door? I watched one guy sit out there with a can of Krylon Filler/Primer. Everytime I walked out there, dude was spraying more of that on my garage door. The door is supposed to have some texture to it, but it's smooth in that spot now. We finally did pressure Bill into coming out. We started pointing out the things his guys had missed.. These were GLARING. "I don't want to make an enemy out of anyone" he tells me.. WTF DO YOU MEAN? I pointed out the nails. "WAS IT IN MY CONTRACT TO DO THE NAILS?" Oh.. so now he's backing out. I reminded him he verbally told us. He did have his guys do the nails. As far as the missing spots, he told my wife, "WELL YOU CHOSE A LIGHTER COLOR AND THAT SHOWS ALL THE DEFECTS!" No dude ! You mansplained what color she picked. I took a lot of photos that I'll upload later.. It's just right now I'm kind of irked my garage floor is wet. I even texted Bill, or his Foreman about the issue, they promised to come back and fix it, never did. If you're a homeowner looking for a painter that you just pick a few colors, and expect them to sand, prep, make it nice.. Bill is not for you. If you're able to micromanage, keep an eye on Bills guys, watch them like a HAWK you might get some good work out of them... But I'm not a manager.. I'm a customer. Why would I have to do that? I'll follow this review up with some pictures at some point, but it's late tonight. I know someone reading this might say, "I don't believe it" because of all the positive reviews, but Bill basically got our money, and was done. Next time I'd rather pay a little more and get someone more thorough.
