We had a clogged downspout that we needed help cleaning, so we hired KST Handyman through Yelp. Alexei came with another person George to help out with the job. They were very nice, friendly, and professional. Their English was not that great (by their own admission) so they often used Google Translate on their phone to translate, which actually worked a lot better than I had expected. We were able to communicate with them just fine. They mentioned they were from Russia so if you can speak Russian that would be great. They wanted to connect their pressure washer to our hose to pressure wash the clogged gutters, but our hose recently broke and thus we didn't have one, so they went out to Home Depot to purchase one for the job. They also got on the roof to manually scoop out a lot of the debris in the gutters. To fix the clogged downspout they removed the gutter from the wall and emptied them and pressure sprayed the inside of the gutter to clear them out. The gutters looked pretty good after they cleaned everything out. They also readjusted the gutter to fit into the French drain better (it was misaligned from the previous job from another contractor). We would be happy to call them up again if we had any more house jobs that needed to be done! read more

I reached out to KST for a shower diverter that was was no longer diverting. Alex responded almost immediately to the yelp ping and gave very clear expectations about pricing and timeline, which ended up quite accurate. Pricing for parts was 100% transparent through images of receipts. Alex was able to directly interface with our tenant, work through scheduling, ID the parts needed, procure the parts and conclusively resolve the issue. You really can't ask for a smoother transaction than this. Pricing was higher than I was hoping, but to be fair, if I tried to do this myself it would have been a half day of figuring stuff out and a couple trips to the hardware store. Didn't get a chance to use him for my fence repair. However he did seem quite reasonable compared to the other service providers that were giving out estimates. Only reason I chose a different company was that I moved from require a partial repair of a gate to a complete replacement of the gate. Quick and easy, but overpriced for the work performed. Realistically, $120 for 10 minute job is not worth it, but I accepted because I was lazy, so some of that is on me. Will not use them in the future given high price point. Replying to tesponse: I'm not disputing that I agreed to it in advance and I said as much. My mistake was lazily taking the first response and not looking at other proposals (who were all lower priced). I've dealt with other businesses who when they realized the deal was a bad one for the consumer--whether agreed to in advance or not--would try to make it better and offer a lower priced, such as, "you know what, that was not worth $120, why don't we just do $60 or $80." But you didn't do that or offer any adjustment to fit the job, even though it turned out to be an easy job. I paid in full as agreed to but it made me feel taken. I take responsibility for prematurely accepting the bid, but you could've made it right just the same. You did a good job, but was it really worth $120 for 10 min? I think you can agree it wasn't and if you saw it first and gave me the bid in person, you would've offered to do it for half. Other than price, everything else was fine. read more

Aleksei came to reinstall 4 kitchen upper kitchen cabinet doors with new hinges, repaired an outdoor gate, replaced 7 smoke alarms, replaced an antique door handle, replaced bulbs in two hard to reach lights, replaced the furnace filter. It took 6 hours, including a trip to the hardware store and home depot. All the jobs were done well. He is neat and pleasant. His hourly rate of $85 is more affordable than any other option. His work was 5 stars. But.. he speaks Russian and almost no English, which caused one miscommunication, but it was nothing serious. He made the mistake of getting on a too short ladder to replace a high smoke alarm (before I could bring the taller one), which caused him to knock an irreplaceble, precious plate off the wall, and it shattered. If you hire hime, you should keep track of his hours and the cost of his purchases. He made a math mistake when adding it all up (counting the first hour at the start, and forgetting to remove the items from hardware that we didn't use) so his initial charge was significantly more than what I actually owed. With these problems, I'd rate the whole experience 3-4 stars. read more

I cannot recommend KST Handyman highly enough. They just completed an extensive, down-to-the-studs remodel of our master bathroom (see photos of "Lafayette bathroom remodel"), and the results are nothing short of breathtaking. It was amazing to watch how meticulously they went about making sure the surface of every stud along each wall was in a perfect plane, and the floor was perfectly flat and level. Then they significantly upgraded the wiring to make sure it was up to code before starting the installation of the bathroom fixtures. They made sure the ceiling lights were evenly distributed, the tile grout lines all lined up perfectly from the floor to the base boards (which on their recommendation were made of the same tiles as on the floor - a very nice, classy touch), and the caulk lines look like they were done by a skilled surgeon. In other words, the beauty of their work extended far beneath the visible parts of the remodel. Also, every member of their crew, without exception, was very polite, good-natured, and respectful, and they always asked for our input at every decision point. They even helped me with a repair on my car while they were there! Now that they've finished the master bath, we've called them back for some additional repairs and projects on our house. I almost hesitate to get the word out on KST Handyman by posting this review, because we would like to keep them all to ourselves! read more
