The owner seems pleasant enough, but other employees there have not been as helpful as I would expect. Several months ago, for example, I purchased several railroad ties, but I had to load them myself and they were extremely heavy and difficult to handle. Also, the boy operating the forklift who brought them over to my 3/4 ton truck made the comment that it wouldn't have the grit to haul those railroad ties out of there because it had a Chevrolet symbol on the side of it. From a friend I would have laughed. From a boy representing a business that I just gave money to, it was unprofessional. I truly enjoy supporting local business and would love to be able to go to Harmony for my hardware needs, but unfortunately this business only carries a select inventory and much of it is older. The prices are not competitive and the building itself is in poor condition. Many of the items on the shelves are dirty and dated. If you want my honest advice, I would go elsewhere. There is a fine Ace Hardware store 5.5 miles west in Union Grove that offers a much better selection, more competitive prices, and friendlier service.

My first contact with this store was for a warranty repair on my Craftsman riding mower. I had to…read morepay the fee to have them pick it up and return it, but otherwise the repair was free. What I didn't like with that interaction was the fact that they returned my mower without letting me know they had returned it. Luckily, I have a Ring doorbell. I was notified of motion in my driveway. I went outside to look, and my mower was just sitting in my driveway in front of my garage door. They did not call me to tell me that they were on the way, and they did not ring my doorbell to let me know they were there to drop the mower off. I happened to be off work that day, and was able to move my mower inside my garage as soon as I knew it was there. If I hadn't been home, it would have sat there all day with the key in the ignition for anybody to steal. I'm just glad it wasn't raining out. My second contact with this store went much better. I needed to make a copy of my house key. Places like Lowe's and Walmart have moved to the key cutting kiosk, instead of having an employee do it. I prefer to have the hands on approach. I went to the back counter and handed the guy my key. He cut it for me, and I went to pay at the front register. I was happy to hear that it was only $3. Those kiosks charge about twice that much.

However, I've not been in a Harbor Freight that wasn't. We were greeted by the cashier when we arrived. She was very nice and friendly. It appeared that she has a lot of experience with the business as I heard her handling questions with customers in a very knowledgeable and professional manner. The selection here was amazing and we always find great prices as well. If you are doing a DYI project or a professional contractor, they offer a great selection of products in every category you can think of. The pictures I posted tell that story. We went in for a small dolly since Harbor Freight offers them a a better price than you would pay for just the wheels at another big box store to make one yourself. This is a great store for Elkin and I hope they do well in this area.
