I will give credit to ACE. Even with the storm - they are open today. Even with all the people prepping - they had space heaters for sale. The staff at this location are all great and super helpful. This place is amazing along with the people that work here. Each of the employees are always very friendly and willing to help you find just what you are looking for or even make a recommendation if you aren't exactly sure what you need for the job. They have a wide variety of grills, from Big Green Egg, to Weber, along with a couple other smokers and flat tops. They have a nice Yeti selection and Stihl outdoor equipment also. Dewalt, Craftsman, and most anything you need as far as tools. This is my local go to spot for outdoor projects. read more

First, i love their store and enjoy the employees. I have visited numerous times at this location. I just purchases a new Weber grill for $ 1500 to $ 1600. I was able to pick one out. They offer free assembly and delivery which is great. Where im disappointed is the lack of product knowledge of the staff, especially after the sale. I had an excellent experience from my inquiry phone call to the great customer service in the store getting knowledgable help with the foresight to help me choose products for my sanding and painting project. No doubt that all the other customers were in a good mood because of the great customer treatment they get routinely; I came from out of town because this ACE store had the sanding disc in stock that was not in stock in my town's ACE store. Their Special Orders are a " disaster". I was told an item was in the Warehouse and would be on the next truck .iI called on the day it was suppose to arrive and they couldn't find my order. I checked the next week and was told the item wasn't allocated to their store. I inquired the next week and was told they think it came in but couldn't find it. Today I called and they said it came in but didn't have my telephone number. We have 2 Ace Rewards Accounts but I will probably not be using them again. read more

I had a nice experience with Steelman's Ace Hardware. I'd shopped there for small items in the past, but never for anything expensive, like a power tool. I had ordered a pole mounted hedge trimmer on-line but found it very hard to use. While I was arranging for a return, my wife had a conversation with a Steelman's staffer who was very knowledgeable about trimmers and who told her that he had three in the store to show me that I might like. I headed right over to look and met with Phillip who ultimately sold me a trimmer that really better met my needs. I was pleasantly surprised that the store has a dedicated power equipment department staff and they are really helpful. Just bought a Dewalt battery powered hedge trimmer from Ya'll.It was cheaper buying The Trimmer,Battery and Charger from ya'll than the big box stores.You had to order it but it only took 3 days.I would much rather support my local Hardware Store anytime over the big guys especially if You can save me money and get in just 3 days.Used the trimmer today and it performed just like the good reviews said it would.I already had a Dewalt Blower aso I knew the batteries were interchangeable and that plus I really like my Dewalt Blower.The employees that work here in Advance,N.C. are Always friendly and helpful thats why I keep coming back. read more

In 2020 I paid someone to take my John Deere mower to Steelman's for routine service because I just did not have the time. The mower was serviced and returned and worked fine. This year I started to do the maintenance myself just as I had always done before. I could not remove the blades for sharpening. Evidently, they had been put on with a torque driver. I called them and they wanted me to hire someone to bring the mower in again ($80) AND pay them at $80/hr to remove the blades. Even though they are the ones that put them on so I cannot get them off. I told them I am not about to pay another dollar to them to fix their problem. I will not be buying anything from their store again. There are too many other establishments that provide honest service and will fix their own mistakes. read more

Love, Love, Love this place! Nothing beats a small hardware store. So nice to shop here instead of the "Big Box Chains". I am always welcomed with a smile, and there are more than enough people to help me. Though I love Lowes and Home Depot, I can literally walk the aisles there forever as I try to find someone to help me. Most times I come to shop at ACE after coming from my horse barn. So, a little "horsey" at best clothing wise, However, I always feel comfortable. For a small place, they have actually had everything in stock that I have looked for. I especially love that they carry horse and barn inventory now. The day I went to buy bales of pine straw for my yard, they were especially helpful. They loaded them into my small car with ease. The man that helped me (I think his name was Lonny?), was precious and I really appreciated his help. One day I arrived before 8am which is the time they open. However, they actually let me in! Which Bog Box chain would EVER do that? That's right, none! Anyway, I hope they will always be around. I'm sure it can be hard to compete with bigger stores. I will certainly continue to be a customer and recommend them to everyone! read more

i ordered a key from them for my vehicle. i asked them when the item came in if i needed to call them before coming out as it needed to be programmed. i was told by the person who ordered it for me no. i even called later anyway to confirm it had arrived and that i was on my way. when i got there to get the key that was ordered i was told they only did this by appointment by the store manager and he proceeded to tell me how busy he was working (he was surfing the web on his computer when i came up but i guess did not think i would notice him bring up a store site or app when i first approache) and i would have to wait until the end of the week. it was Monday and he was not able to until Friday as that was the "day it was done". i was not available Friday so he said the next Monday he would do it (the current day where he could not) I ended up returning the key (with a restocking fee although i never even touched the key or even saw it for that matter) and going to a locksmith who not only cut the key and programmed on the spot but did it for over half the price of the key i bought from Ace. i have purchased several chainsaws from them and bought quite a few items over the years as well from that department. but never had used any other until needed the key. the rudeness and lack of care given PLUS restocking fee so they still got to keep some money is the reasons why i will never go there again. i tried to look up an email besides the store manager but there was not one available so here i am letting folks know. do NOT let them rip you off. if you order anything up front and want it returned they hit you with fees although not telling you up front and are extremely rude when you ask for a service be provided and are misinformed. he could have done the service in the time it took him to inform me how busy he was and then tell me under no circumstance would it be done today. never again read more

So this is my quick stop that is near the house and EVERY other time I have been t a GREAT place. However I went in this week and it was not good. I go in to pick up a part I had maintenance completed on. I walk back to the counter and just as I walk up the ponytail employee is picking up the phone and being VERY helpful to a customer that called in. Very soon after I walked up a super cool kid working there walks out of the back (with his super cool sunglasses on his head), walks right past me, and proceeds to walk to the counter in the middle of the store to chat up the young lady that is worker there. Of course they are talking loud enough all could hear and it was NOT about store business. Seven minutes later ponytail guy is still trying to help a guy on the phone that does not have a clear idea of what he wants and Mr Cool has finished being all that to the ung female employee and walks back passed me. Never saying a word. Ponytail must have had enough and asked Mr Cool to help me. Mr Cool gave me that "I am high or I don't care about you" look and Ponytail asked me what I needed. I explained what I was there to pick up. The kid looked for a grand total of 4 seconds and then said "Where is it?". Ponytail got up held the phone to the side and handed the part to the kid, from exactly where he was looking. He was too lazy to move the tag to see the name on it. With all that said I really hope Mr Cool is related to the owners and I hope ponytail takes Mr Cool out back of the store and teaches him a lesson read more
