I was deceived by this business! Bait & switch! A year ago I hired them because I had water in my crawlspace. I paid close to $5,000 to get the work done. I was promised I will never have any water issues again.... I will have peace of mind! Year later, after all this rain and weather and last summer is drought is over ...my crawlspace is flooded in every area. The system they set up runs from my living room, which is extremely noisy, water gushing. After I complained I was told by the tech "they should have installed this in another area!" I was never told about this option (another red flag they don't care!) I can't sleep. I can't rest with all of this noise and the stress of all the money and aggravation! This review is for a foundation inspection and the work that Quality 1st said I needed to get done to "repair" my foundation. We almost lost the deal to purchase our home because of their ridiculous assessment. I don't write many reviews at all but felt I needed to write one due to the ridiculousness of this company. TLDR: If you need foundation inspection, DO NOT use Quality 1st. Bite the bullet to hire a structural engineer and have peace of mind. So let's get into it... During the due diligence period of buying my home, Quality 1st was the only company I could get to come out during the week we had for inspections. They sent one of their guys to inspect the basement/foundation. I would have gotten a structural engineer but again, I wasn't able to get one in time. They came and "checked" the foundation. My general inspector noted some cracks in the basement that he said we should have looked at. Quality 1st "inspected" the cracks and took a walk around the property and said one of our walls was bowing. In their report, they said we needed a $20,000 PushPier and PowerBrace system to stabilize the foundation. Yes, you read that correctly. TWENTY F**KING THOUSAND U.S DOLLARS. You can imagine the sticker shock my wife and I had. We brought this to the previous owners attention and they almost called off the deal since we were asking for $20K in credit. We almost lost out on buying our home because of Quality 1st. After giving it some thought, we took a gamble on the foundation and went ahead and purchased our home knowing that we might have to repair the foundation. After closing, I was able to get a structural engineer to come out and take a look at the foundation, cracks, and walls. To our relief, there were NO STRUCTURAL ISSUES with the foundation. I had to pay the structural engineer a few hundred dollars to come out, which I wasn't too excited about, but a few hundred dollars sure beats having to spend 20 THOUSAND. The guy from Quality 1st had absolutely no idea what he was talking about and just made it seem like there were issues with the foundation. Basically, the guy from Quality 1st was trying to up-sell and up-charge their products and make a sale. After I didn't follow up with Quality 1st following their assessment, they had the audacity to contact me and tell me they could give me a SLIGHT discount. They also said that the discount was only available for a short time and to act quickly. WHAT A F**CKING JOKE. I feel very foolish for hiring this company. The sales rep came to assess the job. He was friendly and seemed efficient and knowledgeable. The quote was a good deal more than any of the other 3 I got, but I felt confident about Quality 1st. My intuition evidently stinks! To begin with, scheduling was very slow after I signed the contract and made payment. I'm talking many weeks. The crew came out and did a nice job in the basement, though I think they could have done a better job cleaning up. The problem is that the outside drain was done very improperly and the rep acknowledged this to be true. I asked for a better job and was willing to pay for the drain to be extended to the street rather than the middle of my lawn. It was like pulling teeth to get the rep to send an estimate and that's when my teeth nearly fell out. The cost was out of this world ridiculous. I requested he sharpen up his pencil and he promised to get back within a few days. Nope! Still waiting!!! Use another company. Please Don't. Over 2 years of back and forth, multiple meetings with management and the owner. It was a horrific and stressful experience. Horrible communication, we would takeoff work the days they said they were coming and they would just never show up or call. One of the project managers actually took a key and entered the property when we were on vacation. So many mistakes were made and so much time wasted because we were told that it was the first job for this project manager (he was a son of a friend of the owner) so multiple project managers and five Different crews (that we later found out had been fired). They didn't even know the materials, used tape around the windows when they were supposed to use molding. Multiple pieces of tape peeling off within a day. This was the BIGGEST mistake we ever made. The owner Bob was pompous and ignored our problems, he would lie and say he was out sick, but his office would say he was just on lunch. Not one good thing to say about the experience. Multiple promises made by the salesman, but apparently he never told the project manager. So work we were promised was never done, even though it was on the contract, and we paid for it. I contacted this company to have my 2 car wide driveway leveled because I had an issue with the water puddling on the driveway and running back towards the house they came out and gave me a quote and a start date. They came out to do the work and they lifted and sealed cracks, and after the first rain, I had a huge puddle in the middle of the driveway, so now when you come in and park your vehicle and it's raining you have to step in a puddle to get out of your vehicle to get into the house. I've called them. I've asked the Forman the same day with the issue that the slab is not level he told me it would be fine. I called the office the next day due to the huge puddle that was left from rain that day And they sent a project manager a week and a half later to say it was a birdbath puddle really a birdbath puddle I've done concrete before in my times and never heard of such quote so now I'm waiting to see if they come and fix the issue I've been givin a runaround so far....Not a happy customer ! read more

But the kicker is that the rep won't actually come out to diagnose or look into the issue you have. They are there to sell you their products. Know that. I contacted this company after seeing their advertisement in The Record newspaper. I asked them if they could repair the decking around my in ground pool. They said yes, an appointment was scheduled... and then the atrocious work began! At the start of the repair, the machine conveniently doesn't work. The job had to be postponed for another week. When the week came, it was a whole new set of inexperience workers (in my opinion). They proceeded to grind away at the surround, attempting to raise the concrete and stones. The only thing they were able to do was cause the concrete to come out and destroy the coping which no longer protects the steel projecting from the pool's wall! I called the company and the specialist and was offered a small fraction in compensation to what estimated to cost tens of thousands to undo the damage and inadequate work done! This is NOT a reputable business and I would never recommend them to anyone! read more

I have hired Quality 1st Basement Systems twice now and have been thrilled by their professionalism and work. The crew lead both times was Wilbur and the system design specialist was Mike Fiorillo. What I particularly appreciated about the sales process was how Mike worked with me to balance cost and efficacy. Regardless of what you decide to do, I would recommend at least getting a bid from Quality 1st. Additionally, on the day of installation, Mike arrived to help communicate the plan with Wilbur (crew lead) because of the complex nature of my foundational repair. Note: in between the 1st and 2nd job I had a structural engineer review my home and he specifically commented that he approved of the work done by Wilbur and his crew. He noted that all other work previously done by the former home owners had serious flaws. read more

Awful awful company. Let me tell you my horrible experience. I wanted my crawl space encapsulation. I see they do phenomenal work and they have nearly 5 star reviews with few blimps here and there. What could go wrong ? I call Quality 1st basement. Very thorough in booking the appointment and confirming. Sending brochures. So they send JC- A cool suave estimator - talking all that jazz. First of all, he over measures the square feet for my crawl space - states protocol and stuff. YI'm pretty sure that's how he gets his $500-1000 commission. So we go to prices. This is the fun part. If you book today!!! You get $500 off total price. This is BS Aggressive negotiating tactic. What has changed from today and tomorrow ? Did everything magically increase ? Nothing -all crap motto for a crap company. And he gets more more aggressive. If I leave you lose out on the deal- blah blah. For a basic encapsulation with no terra foam 650 sq feet crawl space he was charging $7500+. I laughed when I told I know the market and I plan to call the superior company attic crawl. I should have. Here s the kicker he calls me back 5 hours later - saying oh that prices in SI are not the same like in Manhattan. I made a mistake and we get back to the original price of what every company should be charging $5000 approx. A red flag- I should have ran away but agreed. I ask for the next available appt - and they got a team in 2-3 weeks instead of 2 months. I was working all day and wife was home. The team comes in and suggests foundation supports with each foundation support $1000 . Pass. So they do the install. The barriers were professional. Everything looked good. Before they leave, one of the workers was like you might have a small leak and all LEFT. HUH? I come home from work 1-2 hours after . Go right away to check the install. There was WATER EVERYWHERE. The workers practically busted a small hole in the main sewage drainage pipe. Now I UNDERSTAND things happen and if a pipe is too old - I don't mind paying for it. But you DONT leave a job with damages occurring or try to cover it up with digging a small hole into the ground where the leak is constantly pouring in. Eventually my whole basement would have FLOODED. I was livid. I was ANGRY. I called JC. JC called his manager Mason and their go to plumber I forget his name. They 3 way the call in. I tell them I need someone now. I was about to call for an emergency plumber - it's about 7-8pm now. Mason says we can send our plumber tomorrow or we can cover only $500 of the damages. You know damn well the emergency plumber will charge $1000+. So mason's plumber says I'll go to you. Don't worry I'll take care of it. I ask him the price he says around $300-500 to fix on regular times. He comes around 10pm. Fixes it then leaves. Here is the BEST PART. Next morning, Mason calls. Hey my guy came to you and the total bill is $1000. I'm willing to pay $500. You gotta pay the other half. I was like WHAT? You made the mistake and I'm not paying anything. Well he was like no that's not what I agreed. That plumber calls all angry and saying that's not what we agreed on. Trying to pressure me. GUESS WHAT you Dirty crooked company I told them ??? I had the whole conversation RECORDED. They backed off real quick. My lawyer would have had fun destroying you guys in court. But I didn't bother. The job is good. They encapsulation is great. This review is a year over due but I needed to finally get it done. Last June we started a full home renovation and called quality 1st basement in for an evaluation and possible repair of a questionable issue we had . The scammer of a sales person they sent claimed we needed 25k in repairs, but if we signed off on the work that day we would get a discount. When I stated that I wanted to get a structural engineer to evaluate it he stated that it was not necessary and that they are trained by engineers. Seeing that I have a family with an entire house to renovate he was heartless and attempted to take my money. I got 2 more estimates from other companies who said it was a simple fix. Yes, I did get a structural engineer that was highly recommended by a local home builder and another basement company. The engineers first words after his evaluation was "Let me guess the guy who said you needed the repair was also the salesperson". The simple repair that was suggested was done by another company and cost me less than 10% of their solution. DO NOT LET THEM TALK YOU OUT OF GETTING AN ENGINEER! read more

Poor customer service. In 2019 they waterproofed and completely remodeled my basement, which is fine. Had a pipe leak this month and as a result need to purchase a few ceiling tiles. I was told that I'm on my own since they don't remodel any longer. They can't give me any ideas, no product name or number. So, my lifetime warranty is useless. read more

Although we did write a rather favorable review back in 6/2017...we have since learned that there was mold growing under our home on the floor joist's that Quality 1st never told us about!! That could have been re-mediated back then and 3 weeks ago they inspected the crawlspace for a yearly look... told us yet again No Mold, after I specifically asked them to look as I have been diagnosed with Aspergillus mold in my blood!! We know they are not mold re mediators but they could have told us that it was there as they actually took pictures back in 2017 that showed the mold that they sent to us last week!! If the salesman hadn't been so anxious to make his sale and was actually concerned for us... we could have had it all mold re-mediated before they started their project!! Now 2 years later their so call "Clean Space" is crawling with mold which will cost us many thousands!! Also the Dehumidifier they sold us for 1300$ broke after 2 years unbeknownst to us had stopped working 2 months earlier in the heat of the Summer which just expedited the mold growth!!! They did offer to spray some Moldtex under the house but it apparently needs a lot more then that and all insulation has to come out!! Honestly we wouldn't trust them to do it right as they said themselves they're not mole re-mediators...but they could have stopped what is happening now 2 years ago!..and you can't tell me mold re- mediators or not that they don't know mold when they see it!! Do your home work with these people go into the space with them take pictures and don't sign on the dotted line until you are completely sure what is going on in your home! BUYER BEWARE when investing in Q1's WATERGUARD below-basement system. Installation of WATERGUARD under my basement floor filled my home with the strong unrelenting odor of VOCs (volatile organic compounds) that were under the house. Q1 is NOT at fault for the unfortunate consequences of installing their product in my home. In fact, their salesman/expert Laszlo who sold me the product never heard of such a thing ever happening before. Q1 did attempt to mitigate the unbearable smell filling my home by offering me the chance to buy another of their products--the VAPORGUARD. VAPORGUARD did not help. Now I have to keep buying room deodorizers and place them all over my basement and around my house, and the smell could lower the value of my home. BUYER BEWARE. read more

I am waiting for the General Manager to call back as I write this. I left a message at approximately 8:30 this morning. I was told he would be given the message when he got in at 9 and would be asked to call me back immediately. Typical of this company, it has not yet happened. I received an estimate in May. After being LIED TO by the manager about call backs and scheduling, I finally heard from the General Manager telling me that the demolition on the slab in my back yard would be done on Friday, 7/13 and the concrete would be poured on Monday, 7/16. I spent money and time to get the emergency no parking permit for the 16th - I did not have enough warning to get one for the 13th. The demo crew arrived when expected on the 13th. I called to find out when the concrete workers were arriving. At first I was told that they had no record and then I was told it would be on the 18th. This is a terrible company. Do yourself a favor and don't hire these peoples (Jeff, Bobs, Juan). They are liars, cheats, play dirty, and deal in bad faith. They are actors and act sweet, but they actively work on screwing you if profits are in danger of not being realized. Their workers are all Hispanic immigrants, while the management is all white. The workers are hard working and are not at fault. I believe the company is exploiting these guys, to cut costs and maximize profits. They will get an improper work permit if they believe it will serve their interests in getting work. They are involved in very heavy marketing. If you decide to try to use them even after reading the reviews, you need to protect yourself. 1. Any important questions you have get their answers in writing. If they don't answer your questions, don't hire them. Keep for your records in case you may later need them in court. 2. If any structures to be installed extend into another party's property, no matter how small or if under ground, check with that property owner because their permission is required for the work, as it extends into their property. 3. Prepare to pay double because there will be additional costs. Q1stBS gives you a teaser rate and tells you what additional costs will be, but will make the additional costs look not too bad and unlikely to happen, but will happen and will cost a lot. 4. Hire an engineer for yourself to get a second opinion concerning the project. This engineer may find reason not to hire these guys or if the work is not the right job. 5. Its is in your best interest to hire an attorney specializing in construction to review the contract. Be careful how you sign the contract if you are an officer in a corporation. 6. If Q1stBS recommends you to hire certain individuals for some certain reason, look for someone else to hire. 7. If you hire Q1stBS, demand and get a copy of their liability insurance indicating you and any other property owner listed as additional insured and have an insurance broker review it, before the start of any work. 8. If you have mold and water issues in your basement please read my story about QUALITY 1ST all things BASEMENTY. They are not honest, they are just trying to sell you their product, the salesman came over to give me an estimate for the water and mold damage in my basement. He told me it was a foundation problem and I needed to have the sheet rock removed and replace with panels that they recommend, along an additional sump pump waterproofing dehumidifiers etc, etc.I decided to check where the water was coming in from and found that a gas pipe going to my backyard grill was leaking water in. I then confronted the salesman with my finding who claims he has eleven years experience had a look on his face that said he was busted but still tried to sell me his products. I then called a plumber to repair the leak and renegotiate the contract that was agreed upon.When they came to do the work they agreed to do, they only removed and replaced three walls and left one wall and door jambs with mold also they sprayed this chemical after ending their day with out covering vents and doorways. We were told to stay out of the house for two hours for the chemical smell to go away .We stayed out for three hours and the smell was still bad, had they covered up the doors with plastic sheets as they were needed to be we would not have to deal with that smell which by the way is toxic. I told him about what happened and he said oh well Id rather see you with this problem then see you breathing in mold, really?. Then he tells me that the mold is now inactive.So I called a mold remediation company for a mold test and finds mold active.If QUALITY 1ST was honest from the start they should have said we really do not do mold remediation just prevention ,but their greed and dishonesty caused them to take on this project.I personally think that this company is in for the money and not caring for the public because if they were truly there to help people with a problem all they had to say we can do this but we can't do that. read more

I called this company back in 2017 they were the most professional out of the 4 companies I called to fix my basement I had a small water issue I bought the whole system and been 1 year since install And so far very happy. Lazlo was my sales rep Very through and professional they came out installed a French drain ,repaired a crack in the wall of my basement ,also installed a new pump I bought the triple pump system ,dehumidifier and battery backup system. Only problem I have is the price of the 1 year service I was told it was under $100.00 When i call for this service appointment they woman tells me $176. Because I have the triple pump system Meanwhile it is 1 giant pump system But other than that I am extremely happy with the quality of the work that was done I do plan calling this company back to finish my basement with walls and a floor I hope to be doing this work in 2018 sometime read more

Updated. I wish i can say something Positive, On April 6 , 2019, A basement finishing Contract was signed. 2 Loans obtained ,and started paying off the loans in July 2019. Permits are here at home .No work done yet as of today 12/ 27/19 , almost 9 months later.Ener Bank sent a complaint dispute letter for me to fill out and will notify the HIGHER authority , The BBB & FTC is next. Now this will take more then a year and i was promised by the end of the summer 2019 that it would be complete. Not one peice of building material is in my house. This is a 6 figure job, I got 3 small kids who was planning on having there birthdays down there this year .I think i've been pretty calm about this . Yelp reviews has not been so nice. I had got water leak from wall corner in basement of my Sayreville property in May 2019. I called Quality First, they were nice and proposed solution to remove insulation from wall and install foamax not only in that corner but whole basement. They also recommended to change 2 window wells so water can slip in. Also recommended to change one of the window. Cost was about $6000. I had asked for the best recommendation to fix the issue and that's what they gave me. I agreed and they did the work. Window well lids was not properly installed, called several times but they never came to fix. Earlier this month, I saw water leaking in same corner again. I called Quality 1st basement again. Original sales rep no longer worked there, so they sent another person. He accessed the issue and recommended solution that will now cost additional about $2000. He said water is not properly collecting at the bottom, so need to install new system to collect water and connect to sump pump. BUT question is WHY is water leaking through the same crack that I had spent money to fix it. I understand additional steps to further deviate the issue but WHY is issue occurring? I originally paid $6000 to fix the issue and now need another $2000 to fix the same issue. I have the email from quality 1st with proposed recommendation and that's what I went with. I talked to supervisor after calling over 5 times but sounds like broken record that water-guard needs to done and collect water to sump pump. What this means is, I could have fixed the original issue for $2000 rather than Quality 1st making me spend $6000. Quality 1st is not taking any responsibility or accountability. DON'T USE THIS COMPANY, you will regret it! I am EXTREMELY UNHAPPY and DISSATISFIED with the service. My original issue which led to me reaching out to this company was water seepage. This was explained THOROUGHLY to the sales rep and I was sold this $15,000 job, only to have the problem NOT RESOLVED. I addition to that, I had to literally BEG and DEMAND a receipt for SEVERAL WEEKS after the job was completed. Once I realized I was still having seepage, which was shortly after installation was done, I reached out to the company and it took multiple calls before I could even get an appointment to have someone come out to assess the job. Someone came, assessed the job, he was very nice, and told us what we would need to have done. Since that, I was told the job needed to be submitted before they could do anything. Since that (at least two weeks ago) I haven't gotten any calls. I proceeded to call back today to express my dissatisfaction and once again was promised another call (by the end of the day) and at 7:26pm is yet to be received. This is disgusting to say the least. I would NEVER recommend this company to anyone. Lesson learned: SHOP AROUND. I will say this, about the team that came to waterproof my basement. They worked fast and left my basement surprisingly clean considering all the dust kicked up due to the breaking up of the concrete floor. I have no complaints about the installation team. My gosh. I wish I could say a bunch of great stuff...but I can't. I hired Q1st to lift my pool patio and to seal the expansion joint between the pool patio and coping. The lifting went well, they really did do a decent job. And thank God because I hired them to redo the job of a previous devious unlicensed (mudjacking) contractor who ripped me off for $1500. The joint job was another story, however. I was sold a bill of goods. I am very particular and made that crystal clear right from the jump. I was shown a physical sample and I asked the salesman if the finished product was going to be the same. I was ASSURED it would be. So...I returned the materials I had just purchased to do the job, and treated myself to hiring them to do the job instead. It was so bad that it had to ripped out twice. The first time was not horrible but not acceptable. It didn't look anything like the sample. The second time was just awful. I mean bad. So...they came back and ripped it out for a second time but failed to clean the joint as it was left for them when they did the first round. The joint needs to be clean before accepting new material. It took me some 20+ hours to clean it. Then I was stuck micro pressure washing little tiny light colored dots everywhere the worker moved along with the gun. The micro washing then changed the color of the patio due to the intense pressure removing the old, built up sealer. Hence I was forced to micro wash the entire 1000sf patio. That took well over 30 hours and was so back breaking that I still have to go over a couple areas next spring because I could no longer take the pain. Since I paid with an 18 month zero % interest deal (due in April 2020), they were supposed to take the joint job off completely. Plus, I requested a refund for the hours I put in to do the work they failed to do. They cannot seriously think I busted my back (and really, I have a bad spine so it was PAINFUL) for free. I am SOOO disappointed that they cut off communication with me once they realized I wasn't going to shut up and go away. I have sent a number of emails to the project manager and admin staff. I told them I would file in small claims...but still nothing. I will now be forced to do so. Ugh. What a waste of time. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. No matter what they think about what you think, they should ALWAYS communicate to work things out. Note: the expansion joint photos include small pebbles that I purchased as a means to mitigate the unevenness of the surface, to not have a repeat of the first round. I ran around like a nut looking for enough containers for the job, spent around $70. Unfortunately, it didn't work out because the truth is that the guys are not craftsmen, they are workers. No offense to them, they worked very hard, but they simply do not know how to lay an aesthetically pleasing joint, at least not as advertised. read more

After posting my Quality 1st review on Yelp, I immediately received a call from them in an effort to extend sincere apologies for my situation. They not only offered future services that more than make up for our out of pocket costs, they sincerely asked for our future business with them. It isn't often a company calls to extend this type of offer. I certainly feel as though I can completely trust them in having our best interests. Thank you Quality 1st! ********************************** Positive Results ********************************* My husband and I had Quality 1st install a crawl space system in 2009, we saw improvement with mold and moisture issues we were having. Unfortunately, the aftermath of Irene in August 2011, our system completely stopped working. I contacted customer service to inform them of this. Since we scheduled for an annual service appointment in September, and they were extremely busy due to the storm, they said they would have someone assess and hopefully repair the system at that time. September 24, 2011, the service man came, went into our crawl space, spent about five [5] minutes down there and came up to tell me the system wasn't working and that I needed to give him a check for $104, their annual service amount. Obviously, we were well aware it wasn't working and I mentioned he was suppose to 'assess and possibly repair the system' while he was there. He said he knew nothing about that and again demanded payment. I did not pay him for coming to my home and do nothing to resolve the situation. I immediately called and spoke to Nick, one of the owners?, who said he was sorry for the miscommunication and that he would review our file and send an estimate for repairs in order for us to submit to our insurance company. Nick sent an email with the estimate for repairs on October 5, 2011, 5:37pm, in the amount of $1,650. I submitted the estimate to our homeowners insurance and rescheduled another date for Quality 1st to do the repairs. From their initial visit September 2011, there were six [6] more visits before the repair / install was complete. Six of the seven times they came to our house they did nothing to repair our system, I'm not sure why this continued to happen but sure enough they would arrive as scheduled only to inform me for some reason or another they would not be able to complete the process, i.e., parts didn't come in yet or they didn't have the right equipment with them. So from September 2011 until February 2012, our system was broken, and I had taken 7 days off of work to be at the house for them to 'repair' the system. Would not use. The Sales person did a really good job of selling me all kinds of capabilities for lifting concrete - which turned out to be BOGUS. Waited a very long time to get a "senior crew" and ended up with 2 guys that were not that experienced. The job was not done very well. They did more damage than was already, and actually cracked more concrete, instead of repairing. Called their office and it took their supervisor over a month to respond, after "no show" twice. The supposed fix to the terrible job, was not really complete. I would stay FAR AWAY from these guys. read more

I was not shown how to use the sump pump... there was no book left. I will call company to get one and ask for someone to return. The last night of install was a blur ... there was supposed to be corrections to floor... the cuts to the baseboard looked like the ends were chewed! The messy solution with chaulking used to fill in many gaps was horrible. The walls and border were done nice but communication for time and days for working and starting and work being done until 8:30 pm and 10pm at night was out of control. The way the outside drain was to be installed I had to read to them to have it done right. The salesman and office manager over sell! Won't recommend to anyone. read more

Top notch service! They repaired my concrete around my inground pool back in April of 2018. Around August of 2018 the concrete started sinking again. Chris and Nick came out. They repaired the concrete, caulked and sealed around the coping of the pool. Chris explained why it happened and what steps they would take to repair it so it does not drop again. Chris is definitely a great asset to the organization. I strongly recommend if you have a concrete issue, call these guys!!! read more

This is not something that one can say for the vast majority of contracting businesses in NJ and beyond.
