Beautiful Job on Old Lane Hope Chest!…read more Here's to a job well done! The Lane was restored to its original charm and beauty; stunningly resurrected! For years my Fiancée kept the antique given to her by her great aunt who passed away circa 1974. When she took possession of the chest it was old, dusty and in disrepair, but it was functional. After cleaning it up best she could, the Lane was placed in her room where it was on display with its warped top, split feet and peeling veneer. Not particularly attractive but functional; a memory of her great aunt handed down from a much earlier time. Over time, further damage occurred. Quickly using it as a steps tool proved to be quite irresponsible on my part--"Snap!" went the warped top. Now broken. I don't remember how long after, but the decision was made to explore repair and restoration options. Nowadays in the age of the internet who can you trust? Eventually, we settled on a place that by many accounts came highly recommended with great reviews. We called the owner Rasheed on the phone and he agreed to make a house call to assess whether or not anything could be done. We had our doubts. The owner, Rasheed, arrived and after careful examination explained what needed to be done. At this point what was there to lose, right? The chest was already in bad shape, and most would probably toss it to the trash or chop it up for firewood. Being an heirloom or sorts, the decision was made to have it restored. On his initial visit Rasheed did mention that it would take some time; perhaps beyond the initial estimate to complete. Sure enough time passed--and passed, but it was worth the wait! We paid a visit to the shop which is absolutely huge with many other antiques--refinished and others waiting for attention. A workshop in every sense and worth a visit if time permits! In the end what was delivered was a complete transformation. The Lane was restored to its original dignity and now proudly reclaims its place in the bedroom; an heirloom restored to it original glory that not only holds the mundane things for day-to-day living, but also cradles the memory of a loved one from an earlier moment in time. Hello people. Some bad news here as to the scam I…read moreexperienced. Rashidi had two pieces of mine, a small chair and a console. I was told they were done. I went to pick up both pieces. When I got there, the chair was in pieces and I was told it was beyond repair. He did not tell me this ahead of time before I got there. The console was to have a new solid oak top replaced. He showed me a piece of wood he had in the shop as an example of what he would use. He did not use that. He put on pieces of non-uniform, mismatched veneer. Not solid oak as per the contract. There were other small details in the contract, e.g. nail holes to be filled and a loose drawer to be fixed. These were not attended to at all. The back of the legs, which granted you can not see, were not finished. He has not made good on a promise to replace the top and fix details. Update June 13, 2026: I was there today and the owner has now promised to do the repairs on the console.
