Once again, Qdoba reigns over Chipotle. There, I said it. Tonight, I finally introduced my dad to Qdoba and he was defeated by the bowl. The price may seem a little much, but when you consider that bacon, sour cream, queso, pico, and guac are all included, it's a good deal. (I also added black beans, cilantro rice, chicken adobo). Wasn't too busy when we got there, but boy was it starting to pick up with order in and to go orders.

    Nachos or slop?

They have really good burrito bowls, and burritos. They have really good white rice and healthy choices when it comes to their restaurant

Sometimes, I like getting a side of chips so I can scoop up whatever bowl I built, and they always just throw them in for free when I order it last minute.

GPS gets you close, but it's easy to drive right past. Parking is only two driveway spots plus street parking (there might be a small lot across the street) so plan accordingly if it's busy. Service was genuinely warm and welcoming the moment I walked in, which immediately put me in a good mood. I ordered red chilaquiles with asada, a bowl of menudo, two tacos al pastor, a Mexican Coke, and a Sprite. * Red chilaquiles (Two eggs, fried tortilla chips lathered in red chili, asada(additional cost) side of beans, side of salad; lettuce, tomatoe, avocado): They forgot the asada at first, but fixed it fast and brought the steak on the side--no attitude. The bigger issue was texture--the chips were soggy instead of the usual toasty/crunchy. The sauce started off tasty but got surprisingly bland halfway through; it just didn't have enough depth to keep every bite interesting. * Menudo: Under-seasoned and missing that rich, comforting flavor I love. The bolillo came toasted with butter, which felt totally out of place with the menudo (personal taste, but it didn't work for me). * Tacos al pastor: Hands-down the highlight. Perfectly seasoned, juicy, and everything I want in a street-style taco. Overall, not a bad experience, just inconsistent. The tacos alone are worth coming back for, and the friendly vibe is a big plus. I'd skip the chilaquiles and menudo next time, but I'll definitely return to try more of the "finger food" side of the menu. Solid neighborhood spot with real potential--hope they tighten up the classics!

Triple zeros! This…read moreis going to be more of a lesson in hospitality and less of a review. I had high hopes for this place. It was clean, well decorated and very nice ambience. Ordering food was easy but things started to go south when I was met by the cashier - no hello, no how was your day going, just a rude "what did you order?" That was followed by "your total is..." Then when I asked for a receipt because it appeared I was overcharged, she simply turned around and walked away. I was never able to regain her attention. To her I was just a transaction. People working in hospitality need to understand they need to treat their customers with respect and politeness not terse rudeness. Perhaps this left a bad taste in my mouth because the food wasn't that good. Pretty bland and tasteless. I honestly cannot remember a time when I disposed of more than 80% of my meal especially a burrito! The portions are enormous (far larger than appropriate) and the price was outrageous. I wont be back.

The nachos would have really benefitted from some pico, but it wasn't offered. The guacamole was quite good and so was the flavored sour cream, and the salsa wasn't bad. I did enjoy the nachos, but will order something else next time. My wife said the sweetness of the pork started to bother her before too long, so she too would order something else. Still, our overall impression was good, and we would like to give Cafe Mexicali another try.

We came in and they weren't busy. You go to the front and order off the menu. You get a number and they bring the food to your table. We ordered a whole chicken with a couple of sides. Came with tortillas and some really good sauces. Also tried the sweet potato empanada. Everything looked great and generous when it came to the table. When we started to make our tacos, we found the chicken to be kind of dry. It had good flavor, but the white meat was definitely dry. I really liked the flavor of the chicken. The beans were different. They were very loose with a little cheese on top. They tasted good and with the homemade tortilla and chicken was OK. I liked all the salsas, they were definitely homemade. The Green was my favorite. The empanada crust was crispy and tasty. The inside was a beef make sure with some pieces of sweet potato. Not what I expected but I enjoyed it. This place is really cute. Right when you come in, you feel like you're in Mexico. bright, colorful tiles, and Spanish decor They have self serve water. I like this feature because I am a water drinker. The receptacles were very cool looking. Really cold water too. We had a couple of beers which were nice and cold. The owners were very nice and gave us extra cheese and sour cream when I asked for it. I definitely will come back and give this another try.
