Food: We got the sampler plate for appetizer! The meat was packed with flavor and not too chewy. I loved the spanakopita, the pastry was amazing and the cheese filling was good. The baked pita chips were okay, but they were chewy and not as crispy as I'd have liked. I had the falafel gyro, I liked the tzatziki sauce, it had a good amount of sourness and refreshingness. I needed more falafels, they had only given me three, but they were delicious, crispy on the outside and spiced interior flavor. There was a lot of feta on it, maybe a bit too much for me. I had the pasta orzo for my side which was good, but sort of just tasted like tomato soup with orzo in it. The fries were good, very crispy, and good amount of salt! We had to try the baklava, because I love baklava, and this one did not disappoint, the honey was fully soaked into the phyllo pastry, and the middle section was good flavor too with the nuts. Service: Our server was great, he was very attentive, and the food came out fast, and everyone seemed to be very happy working here. Atmosphere: I liked the seating and the welcoming environment. The kitchen was visible to everyone which is always good to know. Not too loud here either but still busy. Overall: Delicious!! If a restaurant issues coupons then finds ways to go around this, it's disappointing. I bought a lunch meal for $17. Then an appetizer for over $15 and a drink. Then they chose to say they can't honor the buy 1 get the second half off because it's not a main meal? This appetizer cost more than most meals. Beware as well that gratuity is added to the bill. Maybe Monday is the chef's day off as everything from the lamb to the calamari to the tzatziki sauce was bland. Sadly I won't be back. read more

The sliced beef was absolutely delicious! I was glad I ordered the Gyro Platter, which had a good portion of the tasty beef. My wife's Mousaka Platter had some of the same beef, but the mousaka - layers of eggplant, potatoes and ground beef - was very bland, and we wouldn't order it again. My Spinach Rice side was fine; it just tasted like rice. My wife's Pasta Salad tasted like pasta with plain vinegar dumped on it; if that's not your thing, don't order it. No complaints about the service; they kept our drinks filled, and we tipped accordingly. Speaking of drinks, $4.50 each seems awfully high; we had water instead. A BOGO coupon that came in the mail kept the price of our lunch reasonable. I do wish the City of Loveland had not agreed to the PIF and RSF arrangement that results in less money for Loveland and more money for the real estate developer. read more

I went today for takeout at about 2:30pm. I ordered a falafel sandwich and it was mere minutes before it came out ready with friendly service.The falafel itself was ok, the pita was nice and thick and soft. The sandwich came with iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, and feta. The chunky, raw, red onions overpowered everything ( and I like onions). This sandwich would have been worth the price if the red onions were sliced thin and put through a quick pickle, this is cheap and easy and I do it at home all the time. Tzatziki is essential in a falafel dish IMO, and none was detectable. I looked at the menu afterwards and it says it comes with tzatziki and there are a choice of other sauces. When I ordered no choice of sauce was mentioned. A homemade spicy red sauce, good tzatziki always included unless it's asked to omit, and pickled onions would really improve this sandwich. read more

Their lamb souvlaki was very good. The kids devoured their Greek Pizza. Caveat: This restaurant does not serve "Feta Fries" like they do at the Great Greek Restaurant in Denver. They tried to make it here for us but it wasn't the same. It's not simply feta cheese on crispy fries. It has garlic crispy fries with melted mozzarella cheese and feta sprinkled on top. Both were okay. I can't say I'll go back because it wasn't my cup of tea. The grape leaves were too lemony and the rice was mushy. My falafel sandwich gyro thing the falafel were spicy which is not a usual thing and the stuffing with it just wasn't what I was use to a lot of lettuce tomatoes and some weird sauce. Cafe Athens is a great place to go for a quick meal with choices that everyone can get on board with. (They even have hamburgers for the non-Greek food eaters.) My husband and I had some errands in Loveland and needed something quick but not fast foody, and this was a great choice! Not a date night place, but the staff was friendly and efficient. The waiter was willing to share his recommendations, and when I go somewhere new, this is nice to hear. My husband had the Greek Quesadilla and the meat was perfectly seasoned, not too salty, and hot and fresh. I wasn't super hungry so I had the appetizer of Feta in Phyllo and it was just what I wanted. Should I maybe have gotten a salad to be a bit healthier? Sure, but who can resist cheese in pastry dough, hot and melty? Not me! Since we will be returning to Loveland, we will be back to try more of their great offerings. read more

Oh my goodness, the fries here are insanely good! We love the combo platters because everything is so tasty that it's hard to decide. They even make good burgers! The customer service and consistently great food has made us repeat customers for 4 years. The ambiance looks like your typical Greek restaurant decor. I really enjoy Gyros, and have had some very legit Gyros in Germany while stationed there, and here in Greeley at another place, but Cafe Athens is by far the worse I've had! I have never had a Gyro that had unshaven meat (lamb generally)- Cafe Athens serves theirs with long thick cut strips of beef, that is just gross and not authentic. The taste of the beef was fake tasting as well. Then we had some balaclava and it tasted old and was gross too! This meal wasn't cheap either, so I am very disappointed and will not eat at Cafe Athens again. read more

Pretty tasteless food. Most of it is canned. We only ate here because we were starving, hadn't eaten all day and couldn't manage the drive to ft Collins to go somewhere else. They make very little in-house. (We asked the waiter and he admitted the lemon chicken soup was one of the only things made from scratch; it was okay.) the gyro meat was dry, think beef jerky. What can you say when they serve the yogurt and marinara sauce in plastic to go cups? Potatoes on the moussaka tasted like they came from a mix out of a box. Really. It's NOT a Greek restaurant. This is WORTH every penny and every mile away. My husband and I drove all the way from Boulder just to visit Cafe Athens. I forgot pictures the first time, and this is our second time...still forgot pictures because it was too damn good to let sit even for a moment. My husband got the traditional gyro- value meal, which comes with a side. Yes they have the stereotypical french fries, BUT- you NEED to order the french fries, they are double fried and worth every single bite. AMAZING. I get the Taziki Nachos every time and can't ever believe they give you a BUTTLOAD! Its like 3 meals in one- with no skimp on the meat. Its a surprise how much meat there is and so filling. The fiesty feta dip is no joke, it is a MUST try and a MUST have- whether it be your meal, or to share with the table. Also the hummus is AMAZING! You can taste the difference from store bought and we absolutely love it. Even dipping it in some of those double fry french fries! In addition the Galo Pie is a must for those who dine-in. I say dine-in because when it comes to you, it is fresh- piping hot, and if you take it to go it would become one glop of whip cream. So it is a must eat only in dine in. We took it to go, and the pastry puff became soggy, whip cream soup, and the custard was luke warm. It truly takes away from the experience. Thankfully the service is FAST. However we went an hour after they opened, only one server- Stephen and almost all tables filled. He did his best! Applaud. He made sure all of his tables were taken care of. So worth the drive from Boulder- will most likely do it again (and I will try and take pictures. The first time, I didn't know what to think since my husband chose and I wanted Italian, I was a bit salty until the food came and I was HOOKED. The second time around, with only one server I was getting pretty hangry, so once the food arrived I didn't even think of picking up a phone for a photo. Ordered lunch for my staff yesterday, through the Cafe Athens website. While delivered, the order was short a full meal and Sprite,. also they substituted our large tabbouleh (salad) for a Greek salad. When I called to get this corrected, I was argued with. I was told we never ordered what I said I had, and that this is what their tabbouleh looks like (lettuce, olives and feta cheese). Additionally, I was told because we had the order delivered, the problem with the order is not the restaurant's responsibility, which caused one of our people to have to run out to get his lunch elsewhere. I went by Café Athens tonight and arrived at 7:45 by the time I got done knocking on the already locked doors and a guy actually addressed me it was 7:50. He said what are your intentions? I said my intentions are to order food to go! He said " the kitchens is CLOSED!" There were still two tables of patrons inside and one on the patio eating. I replied "but you don't close until eight and he repeated RUDELY "THE KITCHEN IS CLOSED!" So I would give this business zero stars for disappointing my son on his birthday and not allowing me to order his favorite food to go 10-15 minutes before actual posted AND advertised closing time! We love this place but we are disappointed that the hours are open until 8pm but if you show up after 7:30 the kitchen is closed! If your open until 8 your kitchen should stay open until 8pm. Otherwise change your hours to 7:30. read more

This place is very hard to find - it's literally behind a bunch of other stores. The food was good but the fish part that we ordered was just ok. I do like that they offer a platter of food with a ton of options on it. This way you can sample different things just from ordering one plate.
