Great sweet pork quesolle and white sauce! Super addictive and amazing breakfast burritos too!

I had a late dinner on a lovely Saturday evening. I ordered Chicken Tortilla Soup with extra pico de gallo & guacamole.. The soup was hot & the flavor was good. I would've liked it to be a little more spicy. For dessert, I had key lime pie.. It was a bit too tart for me. The whip cream topping helped calm the tart flavor. Overall, the place was clean , music was pleasant ("Mana" was playing on the sound system). The young man who took my order was friendly and welcoming. We stopped for a quick bite with the lunch rush while shopping in the area. Service was great and the employees were very friendly and helpful. I ordered the sweet pork Quesolle and my husband ordered the smothered burrito. No complaints! Everything was super tasty, the garnish (lettuce, pico, sour cream and Guacamole) were nice cold it went well with the hot sauce & Quesolle. Very rare I get that! There's one simple reason for giving 5 stars - BIG portions! My eyes got bigger when I saw how much sweet pork they put in my wife's burrito, and my beef nachos were piled high. The nachos would have really benefitted from some pico, but it wasn't offered. The guacamole was quite good and so was the flavored sour cream, and the salsa wasn't bad. I did enjoy the nachos, but will order something else next time. My wife said the sweetness of the pork started to bother her before too long, so she too would order something else. Still, our overall impression was good, and we would like to give Cafe Mexicali another try. read more

Triple zeros! This is going to be more of a lesson in hospitality and less of a review. I had high hopes for this place. It was clean, well decorated and very nice ambience. Ordering food was easy but things started to go south when I was met by the cashier - no hello, no how was your day going, just a rude "what did you order?" That was followed by "your total is..." Then when I asked for a receipt because it appeared I was overcharged, she simply turned around and walked away. I was never able to regain her attention. To her I was just a transaction. People working in hospitality need to understand they need to treat their customers with respect and politeness not terse rudeness. Perhaps this left a bad taste in my mouth because the food wasn't that good. Pretty bland and tasteless. I honestly cannot remember a time when I disposed of more than 80% of my meal especially a burrito! The portions are enormous (far larger than appropriate) and the price was outrageous. We love the food here, we have ordered for pick up twice and it hasn't been ready. Waited almost 20 minutes for food and they said they needed to find our order. Freaking Cafe Mexicali. What a dream. I went to college in Greeley and this was my favorite place for breakfast, lunch, dinner. I love their inside out chicken bowl. It's literally packed to the brim with fresh ingredients. And that white sauce? YUP. Their chips and queso are also delicious and I brought some home to devour. Their breakfast burritos are also INCREDIBLE and I miss it so much. I happened to be in Loveland area and was grateful they had a location there as well. Reminded me of my college years. I wish they had a location in Colorado Springs!! I would go there every week at least. read more

A pretty standard fast-casual Mexican place with huge portions. After having spent the last eight years in Washington, DC, I've been really missing Mexican food. (DC is the pits when it comes to finding good Mexican food). So, upon returning to CO and being stationed up in Loveland for the wildfire response, I was eager to go somewhere to find a fix to this craving, and this place was close! The portions are huge and the food was delicious. It's obviously not super authentic or incredibly fine dining, but for fast casual it really doesn't get better. COVID things: the staff were wearing gloves and masks, the line was spaced 6 feet apart. When I went people were still eating indoors (in October) but the tables were sanitized between customers and were far apart. I personally feel like indoor dining is still risky so I ate outside, but it was nice to see how seriously they were taking things to try to keep their staff and customers healthy. read more

I love their food. Just make sure you get all of or the sides, they notoriously don't include some of the ordered items. But it tastes good!

Homemade hot tortillas. Barbacoa flavor- so delicious. I got two barbacoa tacos, rice and Black beans. My stomach was satisfied, but with the yummy seasoning paired with freshly made tortilla and chopped lettuce and tomatoes, i wanted to eat more. I saved the other taco for later and it was still fabulous after a toaster oven reheat; I imagine an air fryer would be excellent as well! My colleagues had smothered burritos that looked amazing; i imagine I could've eaten 1/4 of them and been good. The tortillas on those are at least 18 inches! I didn't try too many, but they seemed to have various salsa (behind counter) and hot sauce (by the fountain drinks) that sounded intriguing. No table service which made getting in and leaving to go back during a lunch break a breeze. Overall pretty tidy place, our tables and seating area were nice. Very friendly staff and although busy with customers and a full staff behind the counter, it didn't feel too noisy. Thanks y'all! read more

I had never been to a Cafe Mexicali, and some friends at work started telling me about it. They had me at homemade tortillas!!! But went on to describe meat offered, sweet pork?!!! Yes please! Can't wait to try their shredded beef as that was also recommended...then they went on to tell me about creamy habanero sauce, OMG, and then topped with cheese and run thru the toasting oven! Grabbed my friend who had already begun her lunch and dragged her with me to go get real food Sweet pork burrito was SO good! We eat at Cafe Mexicali regularly. We especially enjoy their homemade tortillas and chips. Our only complaint is that the beef and chicken are very heavily seasoned. We solved the problem by always ordering the ground beef in every dish. It's seasoned, but not overbearing. We would love to order grilled steak or grilled chicken, but the seasonings they use are too much for our taste. read more

I unexpectedly got off work early and since I was starving and it was lunchtime I thought I'd give this place a try. At first glance it was busy but there was still a seat. The food was served by prompt and friendly counter staff and there was a wide variety offered. Unfortunately for me I chose the smothered beef burrito with creamy jalapeño saude, thinking the creamy sauce would mellow the jalapeños slightly. It drowned the poor little peppers, leaving the entire dish pasty to my gringo tongue. I'll probably stop back since it's right around the corner from my current contract. Strongly disagree with ANYBODY saying that "sweet pork" is good. It is an absolute abomination. Who the hell thought it would be a good idea to dump a few boxes of sugar all over some pork and then stuff it into something meant to be eaten. Felt like I was eating a "cotton candy burrito" and it went straight into the trash. I defy you to show me an authentic Mexican place that would do such a thing. An absolute disgrace. Went here for the first time. Very limited menu for anyone who is Pescatarian (1 option) or vegetarian ( 1 option), however that one option was delicious. Due to the limited dietary selections I don't see myself coming here often. Usually Mexican food is very accommodating to diverse diets, but that isn't the case here. That being said, the place appeared to be very popular as there was a long line of people waiting to order. I didn't like the throw away single use aluminum plates. They really need to offer a recycling option and a compost option. Just plain lazy and environmentally irresponsible as a restaurant. Portions were huge, which made sense when seeing the price. Would suggest smaller portions and a lower price point to prevent unnecessary food waste. It is sort of like chipotle where you order your food and they make it in front of you. So no table service. All in all I really like the food and the behind the counter staff were very friendly. I'll return again, just not sure when. read more

Not bad for a new type of shindig Mexican take on things~~ Lots of cheese - Which i really liked and it was Hot which also made it good. I asked them to send mine through the toaster a Second time and it came out Piping Hot! Yum! Cheese extra melted makes a Difference! The sauce was good ~ had the Habinero Mayo ~ spicy level was good but for us Spicy peeps- it would be a level 3 lol - Salsa, beans, and rice were also good. The issue i had was with the Tortillas ~~ Made to order means NOT sitting in a Tin next to the cooker!! When people come in that's when the tortillas should start to be made - don't feel pressured to go against what your promising to the customer - cooking ahead of time is not cooked to order... My husband and I usually love Cafe Mexicali, but had only ever been to the Fort Collins location. Our first (and last) experience at the Johnstown location was horrible. Rude staff members with no customer service. No organization for being "busy". When I offered feedback, a simple "sorry" would have solved my issue, instead they gave me excuses that had nothing to do with me. Wishing we would have spent our money at Qdoba across the street. Side note: in the middle of a pandemic, was a little put off by the cashier not using any hand hygiene and touching everyone's method of payment, and then proceeding to touch insides of food containers when putting lids on, and touching the plastic ware that's going to be in people's mouths. read more

New location of this Northern Colorado favorite. Checked it out and everything from the decor down to the sauces was exactly the same as the other locations. This means it is the best! Sweet pork, creamy habanero and you are set! If I ever left Colorado, Cafe Mex would be the local restaurant I would miss most! read more

Came in for some dinner for that family. Place always very clean and workers wearing masks and gloves. Tables also cleaned with signs that say if they been sanitized. Food is great every time here and the Greeley location. Definitely one of our favorite places in NoCo. Pixi approves of the whole menu read more

If you want easy, quick delicious Mexican food, this is the place. The food is all very simple and prepared when you order like in a fast-food place, and you can dine-in or take out. They throw your plate together and run it through the oven while you pay. Many of the options are gluten free, and, as far as Mexican food goes, relatively healthy. It seems to have less fat than most. The tortillas are made in house. I especially like the barbacoa enchiladas. The enchiladas are not rolled and baked, though, they simply through the tortilla on the meat and run it through the oven. I'm personally ok with this, but I mention it in case somebody else doesn't like it. Their margaritas are delicious too! read more

This place is typically pretty good for burritos but unfortunately I was pretty disappointed this morning. I got a breakfast burrito which was good half way through until I took a bite and got a very crunchy bite. I spit it out as everything inside should have been soft and found all my normal food and a whole lot of eggshell. I couldn't bring myself to finish the burrito after that. This has happened before and at this point it seems like a bit of a pattern instead of a random accident. I'm probably gonna lay off cafe Mex for a while after this encounter :( read more

This is on my opinion the best quick Mexican food place in Northern Colorado. My go to is the Ensalada Mexicali with sweet pork. The tortillas are made fresh and the portion size is huge. My family and I got take out last night. I have eaten here a handful of times and at different locations and the staff is always nice (even if you don't have a mask) and the food is consistent. Since all the restaurant restrictions I have noticed food prices have risen and/or portion sizes have become smaller. Here at Cafe Mexicali it's a good bang for your buck! read more
