When we visited, the soda machines were down so we only had the option to try their teas/lemonades or canned options like Olipop or Topochico. I mixed a couple of their teas and lemonades to amp up the flavor since they're not sweetened. I ordered their garden steak salad which was a good, lighter dinner. The garden steak salad has garlic herb steak, mixed greens, roasted cremini mushroom, roasted cherry tomato, basil, avocado, pickled onion, ciabatta croutons, and citrus vinaigrette. The steak was tender, but didn't have much flavor in my opinion. I've been to Modern Market before and there's other options that are more flavorful like their green chicken chili. I took it home and ate it with some white rice. It was flavorful and filling. Overall a good spot if you're looking for a quick, healthy meal.

I wanted to check out the flower/gift store next door first before eating so as we continued on our way, a man ran out and explained to us about the poster and how every month on the 15th he was going to choose an item to be 15 cents for that day. I thought it was really great to see such a go-getter attitude, you don't see that much these days (usually just get the millennial stare when ordering anything nowadays haha). I digress, after going to the flower/gift shop, I asked the kids if they still wanted Smashburger or wanted to try Fat Shack, especially after meeting the nice man. They enthusiastically replied Fat Shack! We went inside and the guy chatted to us about the menu and even obliged my request for bacon and jalapeños to be added to my cheese fries. He heard the kids liked milkshakes, and gave them a little cup to try the chocolate flavor out and totally spoiled us by also letting us taste the fried Oreos and funnel cake bites. They have coloring books and crayons for kids too which my daughter loved. To top it all off, my son, who in his own mind, is a burger connoisseur, declared his cheeseburger from here Top 2 in best burgers he's ever had (sorry, I don't think anything will ever knock in n out from its golden spot for him haha) so that really is sayin somethin! My wife and I ordered a "Munchie Madness Platter" ($18) - mac-n-cheese bites, mozzarella sticks, onion rings, chicken fingers - and everything, including the sauces, was good! That was the high water mark. One bite into my half of the Fat Chance sandwich ($17), and my opinion of Fat Shack started falling like a rock. Soggy, greasy french fries for filler. Plenty of dried-out bread in every bite - that is, except for the outside, which was completely covered in sauce, making the edges soggy. Chicken fingers that didn't seem to belong there at all (live and learn). A single bite where I tasted the jalapeno popper. I was fine with the cheesesteak, but my wife thought it was awful. I ate most of my half of the sandwich, but felt disgusted for hours. Take this to the bank: I will never eat another Fat Shack sandwich. Finally: I know it' has been normalized, but that doesn't make it right to ask for a tip before any service has been provided. It's a total hostage situation. Did my refusal to participate result in a shoddy sandwich? Sadly, that's the best-case scenario. Otherwise, Fat Shack is doomed, because one the newness wears off, they'll still be serving remarkably bad sandwiches.

Our fabulous server Clementine was there--we remembered her from last year. This is I think our third or fourth time here in as many years. An order of beignets started us off. These are square and no-kidding as big as my hand. Each. Four of them. Yeah, beignets are mostly air but one order was plenty for the two of us. I ordered the Eggs Pontchartrain---pan-fried trout filet, poached eggs, smothered in sauce bearnaise. I ordered the side of grits, plain, though I've also had their cheese grits. Both are stellar. Fabulous breakfast plate! Wife N went with the classic Benedict, ham, poached eggs, hollandaise, plain grits on the side. Delicious as always. Coffee is dark and fabulous. The nachos were cheesy and flavorful and the stroganoff (which was thoughtfully split for us into two separate bowls) was so creamy and yummy with lots of prime rib. Per our server's suggestion, we finished our meal with the Sopapilla Cheesecake... OMG! Not too much cheesecake, a flaky pastry bottom and a crispy, cinnamon-y top layer. SO GOOD. That said, it was perfectly acceptable and hit the spot. My next two visits were at the bar, where both bartenders were friendly, attentive, and clearly knew their craft. Based on those experiences, I'd definitely return if I were in the area and would recommend others give it a try as well.

The sauce for it was insanely good, and the chicken was breaded beautifully and very juicy. 10/10 easy!
