Thank you Holly for sharing this amazing event with us! So I usually hate Monday because you know,…read moreafter your happy weekend, you don't want to do anything, soooooo tired for no reason, I mean Monday Funday?!?! Hell no... until... I participated in this FREE fun, amazing, useful(yeah man, DIY Gin Cocktail-easy peasy. Their recipe was SO easy. Trust me, if I can make that Gin Cocktail, you can) and bubbly event at Sullivan's Steakhouse tonight! Staff at Sullivan checked us in, they immediately made us little Gintonic! Way to start, right? Britnie J, Norma G and I were so excited about our drink but oh wait, there's more! As soon as we walked in to that little party room, they had like 6-7 big tables with all of ingredients we needed(measuring cups, fresh lemons and cucumbers, sparkling water and more!), pretty red roses, and they also had this little cute buffet(oh man, I loved their sandwiches so much! Tuna was really good too). After we were seated, the brand ambassador for Hendricks, Fred started presenting his nice presentation and telling us about their history, fun fact, etc. Oh and then what? Time to DIY Gin Cocktail, woohoo woohoo! Our first menu was Cucumber Lemonade; cucumber, fresh lemon, simple syrup, sparkling water. yeah that's it!! Easy, right? I gotta say, this recipe was so easy but it tasted SO good. All of our group members agreed that this was the bomb!!! Second menu was Blueberry Delight(pretty much same ingredients but added blueberry and greentea syrup) and it was really freshy, fruity and sweet! Lastly, our whole table made this big a$$ Tenured Punch. It was so huge, we could never finish that whole thing but it was so fun making it all together! Everything was so great and Fred did such a great job organizing this event! He was so fun and good at teaching us how to make the best Gin ever! Also, after our Gin Cocktail academy, they even gave us little gifts and everybody was so excited about that! Overall, this was wayyyyyy beyond my expectations and I really hope that they organize this event again!! This Gin Academy was one of the most useful/fun events ever! Now, I just have to make some excuses, invite my lady friends over and do this DIY delicious Gin that I learned from tonight's class!!

They literally had bottles of gin waiting for us on our tables and said have at it. Of course with a little instruction and recipe cards we were old pros by the end of the night. (; Boy were our creations delicious. The Cucumber Lemonade was out of this world, so Refreshing. I even recreated it when I got home for my husband and me. It was that good. I recently became a gin drinker and have been playing with Cockails at home, so this academy was much appreciated. Thank you Freddie for being so passionate about Hendricks and taking the time to talk to us. And thanks to Holly for adding this crazy cool event to Yelp.

I'd recently moved to Raleigh and was looking for a new writing community, when I enrolled in my…read morefirst Redbud Writing class, "Writing the Novel". I was blown away by the incredibly supportive environment Emily and Arshia have created in each of these classes. Not only is the community of writers wonderful, Emily's instruction on craft and astute comments on our work has helped me get clearer on my intentions as a writer. I've just signed up for my third six-week session, this one with Arshia, and I have no doubt that she'll bring the same level of attention to her students and her classes. The organization also holds events outside of weekly writing classes. They'll host quarterly readings as a place to share our work with an audience, they have single-day deep dive seminars, they're putting together a chapbook with people's stories and donating the proceeds to charity, and they'll host trivia nights. I truly feel like I hit the jackpot in terms of finding a writing community. Lastly, due to COVID-19, the last six-week class I participated in was online, via ZOOM, and it worked well! While I look forward to meeting in person again, I could see this being a great platform to use if physical distance prohibits you from enrolling in these classes. It's a testament to the instruction that these classes work just as well virtually. It also should be said that I look forward to these classes every week, particularly during these current, uncertain times. They've given my week the structure and accountability it needs. If you're on the fence in enrolling in this community, do it!

It was my first Redbud class, and I was really impressed by how Ali led the class with a combination of workshopping, in-class writing time, and discussion of poems and texts on craft. We had just three students but it ended up being a benefit - lots of time to workshop! Plus, a week or so after the session ended, there was the opportunity to take part in a reading with students from other classes at Flyleaf Books. It was super nice to meet some people irl especially with everything being cancelled for so long due to covid. I highly recommend classes with Redbud! The website works well and the prices are fair (not cheap, but they offer the option to donate more if you've got it to help them offer lower cost to those who need it / do free community classes).
