Baldwin Oaks Academy Montessori School

Baldwin Oaks Academy Montessori School

I've been taking the kiddo here for almost a year now, and it's been a wonderful experience. The…read moreprevious daycare we used was good, but nothing particularly extraordinary. At Baldwin Oaks, all the staff are friendly and caring. The Montessori style resulted in immediate changes: the kiddo has become more self sufficient by wanting to clean up after playing, washing hands, getting dressed by themself. I feel it's much better than just having playtime for most of the day. The school itself is a little worn around the edges (this is definitely not a new facility by any stretch), but well maintained. The office does have have a fingerprint scanner for check in/out, but otherwise not much else in the way of technology such as cameras, electronic doors, or online payment. But these minor inconveniences are far outweighed by the staff and the way the kid has developed this past year.

We are a Full Member of the American Montessori Society. Along with our classrooms, we have a large, shaded playground and a Nature Classroom for our students to explore. We welcome you to come and tour our campus Tuesdays and Thursdays between the hours of 9:00-11:00am.

We love the Montessori's individual approach to teaching and our children have thrived. Mrs. Linda and Mrs. Carol are excellent teachers and have made outstanding progress with both children. Crystal, the school's new director (or associate director??), has been extremely helpful and is incredibly knowledgeable about the Montessori philosophy and methodologies, among other things :-) I would not hesitate in recommending The Montessori House.

Owners are older and not tech savvy at all.Had some good teachers, but high turnover rate, they hired first year teachers when we were there with virtually no experience and the kids suffered. There are much better options for the price. Here's my response: Unfortunately the schools response shows a large part of why we left. They are wrong and ruthless so they need to lie to support their comments. I paid them over $15,000 before we had any financial problems, and my children were there for 3 year not 2. I have the records so saying we paid them nothing until they sued us is a bold faced lie. There was a recession, we did have financial issues as many Americans did during that period and they were ruthless, they let our children return for a third year knowing this knowing we had some problems and then sued us when they found out we were leaving. Here's why we left. We paid over $9,000 for first grade thinking we had a teacher that had been with the school for years. On the first day of school we found out that she had left, that's a fact. Her replacement, we found out a few months later, was the daughter of another teacher at the school who had been there for years. We paid more (much more after they sued us) for a first year teacher, one year out of college who was pregnant from the day she was hired, I assume they knew it, assuring she would not even finish the first year, which she didn't, and she's did not come back the next year. It was the worst year we've had with our kids and we paid through the teeth for their hiring practices. My comments to prospective customers is, the school is only as good as the teacher. They had some good teachers when our kids were younger, no idea if they are still there. But paying $9K a year for my child to be taught by a first year, pregnant teacher, when no one at the school told me her mom was in the other room and was the main reason she was hired was just plain wrong any way you cut it. We paid dearly for that hiring mistake, hopefully no one else will. Oh and a static web site with no ability to log in, view your kids grades, communicate with teachers or review your child's work is not very useful. But hey, they think Al Gore invented the internet....

Due to regular…read moreclashes with the admin we attempted to find a different school about 10 months in, and would have withdrawn our daughter sooner, but the enrollment contract and fees are structured in a way that makes it an expensive decision to leave before the school year ends. It's also not simple or easy to switch daycares, and I wish I'd realized that before enrolling. Our child was generally safe, happy and cared for, and enjoyed her friendships. Taken in totality l, her positive day to day experience took precedence for us vs our unhappiness with administrative decisions. Any parents of young children will know it's also hard to find a new daycare option without being on a long wait list and none are perfect. If you're on multiple wait lists waiting for a spot somewhere, though, I'd suggest you do what I did not, and wait for something else to open up instead of settling for this daycare. The teachers are generally wonderful people and are absolutely so good to the kids. The empathy and love shown by many of the teachers to the children are the sole reasons I am giving this daycare a 2nd and 3rd star. The administration, owners, their policies and manner of communicating with parents is less than ideal and not something I'd expect from a daycare that costs over $15k per year. It's a for-profit operation that is run extremely leanly, and that is abundantly clear in every aspect of the school's operations. Without going into details - I vocalized dissatisfaction about issues that occurred and that were important to our family multiple times over two years. In responding, each time the admin & owners know they have the leverage and always pushed back. Sometimes they relented, but it took a lot of pushing on my part and uncomfortable conversations to get there. Sometimes they didn't offer any compromises like when asking that they reconsider and discuss their use of television and audiobooks on a daily basis in the 3-year old classroom. They know in refusing to consider changes or different opinions that parents are between a rock and a hard place and can't just withdraw their kids without negative financial and child care impacts. Hopefully the admins and owners will see this review and pay attention. They should consider improving communication styles and the customer service aspects of their relationships with parents who are paying a significant premium cost for childcare that is far less than a premium experience.

It's very obvious they don't truly care for kids here. The worst part, their parking lot is not safe and I know because my son was run over by a car. Fortunately, my son is still alive with me today and didn't become another statistics of children killed in parking lots and daycares. I could never recommend this place to another parent.

She has undoubtedly gone above and beyond dedicating herself to early childhood education for over 20 years. Her passion and compassion along with her genuine love for all the little ones is undeniable! Our son has attended the school for almost 3 years now. We feel so blessed that his first experience with formal education has been at Growing Minds. The teachers follow Mrs. Ansari's vision and have worked alongside her for years, (which is so rare nowadays) and makes such a difference! Being a Montessori School, our son has consistently had the same teacher: Mrs. Carattini. We could not be more grateful for how loving, patient, gentle, nurturing and caring she is. The result is, our son, along with his little peers' flourish into confident, independent, curious children who have undoubtedly been positively impacted by a unique, positive learning environment. Montessori education makes a world of a difference and challenges students to remain true to who they are while cultivating a genuine love for learning. I could not recommend Growing Minds Montessori School more highly to anyone who is looking for a solid educational foundation as well as a loving, nurturing environment for their child. It was the best decision of our lives, and it will be yours too!

As someone with an advanced degree in Education, I am hypercritical of schools and curriculum, I examine curriculum and teaching effectiveness all day in my career. The school is definitely Montessori enough, Montessori schools provide students with freedom within limits, and maybe that seems unruly to someone who has no idea what Montessori even is. The school is better priced that 7 of the schools I looked at in the area, only Primrose was more expensive. The school has a few entrances, all of which are locked by key and only a few members of the school have the keys. It is extremely safe. The owners of this school put me at ease. The school itself is immaculate and the outside areas are pristine. The communication is incredible, I can always follow up if I have a question or concern and get immediate feedback and help. My daughter goes in and comes out happy every single day. She has bloomed into a wonderful little human and at each checkup her doctor is amazed at how much she knows and does for under 3. I give full credit to the teachers and owner of the school for that. The teachers are a mix of backgrounds, some speak English, some speak Spanish, some might even speak more languages- I don't really know. I absolutely love the diversity and inclusion of the school and I couldn't be happier. My daughter did go to a different school and it had many of the same aspects but my daughter wasn't happy. The owners and teachers of this school are incredible and it shows in the kids that go there.
