Years ago, we adopted a mother cat and her kitten. Mother(Gracie) at the time was 10 months old and…read morethe kitten(Chloe) was 8 weeks. They were both rescue kitties. Fast forward to 10 years later. Chloe got sick and later found out she was filled with cancer and we had to put her down. A few months went by and Gracie was acting depressed and not eating. We figured she was lonely so we sought out another cat for Gracie. We read about the Humane Society of the Nature Coast and decided to go there even though it was 30 miles from our house. We had looked online before going to see what was available. We picked out 4 cats to look at. We were looking for an older cat as we didn't want to go through the whole kitten stage. So when we got there we were amazed at the facility. It was clean. The cats were kept in rooms with multiple cats, plenty of toys, cat towers, and a cat door heading to a screened in patio they called Catios. In the Catios there were shelves all along the screened area(they also had wire so they couldn't get out of the screen) the cats could sit and look outside and get fresh air. We looked at all of the cats we had picked out and had settled on one. On our way to tell them which one we had picked, we walked by this room that had a quarantine sign on it. Evidently the cats in that room had been exposed to ring worms. As we walked by, this scrawny little kitty was sitting by the door looking out the window. Doors had full length glass in them. We inquired about the room and they told us that if we entered that room we could not go into any other room afterwards. We agreed and went in and looked at and interacted with one kitty. They had named her Turtle Sundae. She was a Patch Tabby and had the colors of a turtle candy and a vanilla and chocolate sundae. She was four years old and exactly what we wanted. We decided on the way out that we didn't want to name her Turtle Sundae, so we dropped the Sundae and left her as Turtle. So this was a weekend and they said we could pick her up on Monday. The adoption process was so simple. Turtle had all of her shots and was spade. I picked her up on Monday and the adoption process only took about 30 minutes. The $75.00 adoption price was reasonable. I put Turtle in her carrier and out the door we went. On the way home, I stopped at the vet and had Turtle checked out per the agreement I signed at the facility. Doctor said she was in great shape and all was good. Fast forward to 6 months later. Turtle has turned into a wonderful companion. To sum it all up. Humane Society of the Nature Coast is exactly what it says. They are Humane, the staff is outstanding, the facility is clean, the adoption process was painless, and the price was reasonable. I have recommended this place to several people. I would use them again. This is truly a 5 star place and experience.

I do not doubt this facility provides great temporary homes until adoption and treat them with love…read moreand care. But my wife and I fell in love with a pup there on Christmas Eve but couldn't adopt that exact day. So filled out an application gave them our current dogs information including not being fixed. So we made a meet and greet appointment with our current doggo and the potential new addition two days later. We arrive on time only to be told we cannot do the meet and greet and cannot adopt because the dog at the shelter because he was recently fixed and won't be sterile for another 6 weeks. I was like ok cool so we have to come back in 6 weeks to do it then because we still want that dog. Nope. Said they didn't want the dogs to mate and create more puppies which I do understand to an extent. Just super disappointing they were not willing to work with us as we are trying to rescue a dog to a very good home to be spoiled at. And never called us to let us know because my wife and I made ourselves available for the next available meet and greet appointment. Phone numbers and emails were on the application and feel like this could've been handled more professionally. End of the day the dog they held for us and we intended on taking home today will unfortunately be sleeping at a shelter until another family falls in love with him as well.

I had a terrible experience with Habitat for Humanity free pickup of large donations. I had called…read morein early February and booked a free pickup for March 12, 2020. The Habitat truck came at 4:00 p.m. on March 12 and announced they didn't have room in the truck for my donations. The workers assured me they would be there by 9:00 a.m. the next day. At 10:00 I called since they had not come. The lady answering the phone said the workers had a full schedule that day and were not coming by to pick up my items! What kind of management decision is that--to throw a donor under the bus because they couldn't handle me on the previous day? Why did I lose my place in line after having pre-scheduled for over a month? I would never rely on the Brooksville Habitat for Humanity for a free donation pick up.

I came in as usual, but my youngest wanted to sit in the back.. I really didn't see a problem with it as long as she was careful..I got her a few craft books to look at and keep her busy..while we continued our shopping she would stand up in the back of the cart.. and would hold on tight when we move.. plus I was being very careful.. I know her. If she was a uncontrollable child that was wreckless I wouldn't have taken her in!! After we made our selections on a few items and I was ready to leave. We made our way to the credit cards only register. Begin to take the hangers off the clothes just to speed up the process.. while waiting for the cashier to come over, my youngest is standing in the back admiring the business cards they have on top of the high counter.. Up walks the cashier, and an older man. She takes him in front of me. Didn't say a word to me. ( my 20 years of being a cashier I never did that. I would always excuse my self and ask the customer if they minded first..) pushed my items aside and said he needs room to sign.. very stern! While he's waiting to sign . She says to me in a stern drill Sargent voice " can you please make your daughter sit down" I looked at her and said " I have tried to make her sit the whole time I've been in here ". She then says to me " well your her mother! " surprised by her response I said "I know that! " then she spouts out "I'm just concern for her safety" and just stood there acting like she wasn't going to ring up my items at all till she sat down..my daughter was doing nothing wrong!! So I told her to keep there crap and I left..I had never been so humiliated in my life! 1st) if you have a concern about something, you say it with a little understanding, don't make the parent feel Like they have no control over there kid.. She is always so rude when I would go in.. I'm surprised they are still open! tiggeriffic77, 03/10/2013Very rude, unprofessional staff Consistently over the course of several years I have accompanied my elderly parents on their weekly shopping trips. Every single time my parents naively continue to take ridicule from one in particular staff member with blonde hair and her condescending attitude for the sake of saving some of their hard earned pension. I feel obligated to tell our community what I have witnessed as very unacceptable customer service. My Dad is hard of hearing and as a result he speaks loudly. The staff member in question threatened to throw him out of the store and did not care one bit that I explained he was hard of hearing. Just so everyone knows my Dad is always respectful just has bad hearing and cannot hear himself sometimes. Another instance my mother asked for a price and when she uttered respectively she believed it was entirely too high the staff member said," well we don't serve your kind then" . My Mom respectively asked what she meant and the staff member then said, " white trash like you." I was floored and at that time I purposely dropped the clothing items at the register and told my parents to do the same I even complained to their adjacent office manager. Amazingly, my parents continue to shop there regardless because they feel it is a good cause, I however, will not until this unprofessional staff member is relieved from her duties and I am certain many others in our community will attest to the same. nobodynew, 06/18/2011You really have to 'shop' if y... You really have to 'shop' if you want a good deal because their prices are very high for the used up stuff they sell. Everything in the store is dirty ... furniture to clothes ... I found a pair of shorts with a swath of poop in them. Everyone that works at the store in super rude and hateful ... especially the manager. The last time I was in the store I asked about a price for a door, because it wasn't marked, and the manager just threw a number at me and when I complained that it was much higher than the other doors she, snottily, told me "we're not a give away store". This store is giving Habitat for Humanity a bad name.
