We had our wedding on October 20, 2025. Our venue was the Montauk Club and although we liked the venue, we unfortunately would not recommend Purslane as the caterers. Purslane was not our first choice but it was the only catering choice given by the venue. We initially felt confident about going forward with Purslane because of the numerous reviews online about its food and service. Later in the planning, we developed more reassurance after the tasting. Unfortunately, the food on the day of our wedding did not taste the same as it did at our tasting, and the dessert was completely different. When this was brought to Purslane's attention after the event, we weren't even offered an apology for the dessert difference. But instead, we were told that we discussed the difference and agreed to such though no evidence was shown about this communication. It was very disappointing to hear and suspicious especially since our final event order was edited on the day of our wedding. Also, when finalizing the event order, the event producer mentioned that some requested notes would not be visible on the signed order but will be within catering notes that only they could see. So, download everything because once changes are made you can't see past documentations. Lastly, our event producer was not as helpful as we had hoped. We were often given the impression that they were doing us a favor by fulfilling our requests and at some point it felt that they didn't even want to talk with us anymore but rather with our wedding coordinator. I believe as a service provider you would want to talk to the individuals actually paying for the event. read more

My husband and I had Purslane cater our wedding a few weeks ago and we couldn't be happier with our decision! From the start, Purslane was wonderful to work with and very open to catering their menu to fit us and our wedding. We wanted a floating cocktail style event and Purslane was totally on board with this. In addition, my husband's family is from Jamaica so we were interested in having Jamaican food served. The chef was happy to do this for us and made Jamaican food for the first time for us at our tasting. My husband is much more of an expert on Jamaican food than I am, but he was very pleased with the results. What's even better is that all of his Jamaican family (and our other guests) absolutely loved the Jamaican food we served at the wedding. Purslane and the chef went all out, offering a Jamaican menu of jerked chicken, braised oxtail, plantains, rice, beans, fish ceviche, and chicharron. We were absolutely blown away by the passed apps and were told by so many guests how great they were! We absolutely loved the watermelon bites and tuna tacos. We also had passed tacos which were delicious and dessert bites. One guest told us that she followed the servers around to get as many of the churros as she could. Finally, we had a late night nacho bar which sadly I did not get to try (the whole "the bride and groom forget to eat" thing is sadly so true!) but I was told by someone that it was the best nachos they have ever had. We were repeatedly told by our guests how amazing all of the different foods we served were. In fact one friend said that she was so impressed by the passed apps during the cocktail hour that she made sure to eat as much as she could during our wedding and get seconds of everything. Purslane's coordinators were incredibly helpful and wonderful to work with and the staff who ran our wedding were friendly and very professional. We truly cannot thank Purslane enough for making our day such a special, and delicious, one! read more

The Prospect Park Boathouse was our dream venue, and Purslane made the booking and planning process so easy and made our wedding day so fantastic. Elena was our event manager and was lovely to work with. We thoroughly enjoyed our tasting (held at the Boathouse with other couples getting married in the same season) to kick off the planning process. There are so many options for the catering, and we heard from numerous guests that the food at our wedding was among the best reception meals they'd had. Purslane really knows how to run this show. The weather unfortunately didn't cooperate for our vision of an outdoor wedding by the lake, but Purslane's rain plan was also beautiful and they were very receptive to our wishes to keep as many doors and windows open as possible to keep the connection to nature part of our ceremony. Not recommended! Working with Purslane was by far the most difficult part of planning our wedding. We picked them from a list of approved caterers for the Prospect Park Picnic House, where we had our wedding in May 2022, but after signing their contract we found out their disorganized management and service did not match the good reviews of their performance we had seen online. --Purslane informed us shortly before the ceremony that they were charging a 9% administrative fee on not only their food/service costs but also the rentals, which is work done by a subcontractor. We had persistently asked for the rental costs during the planning, but Purslane didn't provide numbers till close to the time we needed to place our orders. Learning that the rental subcontractor was charging $7,000 was a surprise, but it was a shock to learn shortly before the wedding that Purslane wanted to charge an additional 9% on fop of that amount just for their work in placing the order. This seemed unwarranted, as this rental surcharge was not reflected in the agreement we signed with Purslane, had not been discussed with us by Purslane previously, and was out of line with Purslane's likely minimal work in ordering equipment for a straightforward, 100-person event at a space that Purslane had catered many times before. --After signing our agreement with Purslane at the start, they delayed in assigning our wedding to a liaison (after the initial sales rep), and soon after we had settled on a menu, they switched to yet another person. The new liaison failed to show up to the first meeting and had nearly no knowledge of the basic wedding and menu details we had already shared with Purslane to date. Even a few weeks before the wedding, we still had to correct her understanding as to basic facts, including the start time of our wedding (!), our menu, and the fact that we were not using a wedding coordinator. It was maddening. --Purslane's liaison was totally unprepared at the walk-through prior to the wedding. She seemed unfamiliar with the location and could not explain basic information like where Purslane would have their food set up and where wedding parties typically set up around it (DJ, etc.). It made the visit inefficient and required several follow-ups to determine the floor plan. --When food service started at the reception, we (the newlyweds) walked up to the buffet, and Purslane's servers were nowhere to be seen - even though Purslane confirmed that their buffet service would have servers, and we had stressed to them that this was needed for the sake of food safety. So we had to wait at the buffet while someone from our party ran to find Purslane's staff and tell them to come out and serve. --Despite assurances from Purslane that they would honor our request that their team wear masks due to covid, Purslane's catering manager, captain and some servers didn't bother wearing masks at the reception, even when serving food. Indeed, there were things Purslane did right. Ultimately, the food was tasty; they had more options for vegans and vegetarians; they cut and served our cake with no extra fee; the setup, service, and breakdown on wedding day, were mostly without incident; and Purslane's sales rep at the start of our relationship was friendly, responsive, and helpful. But these positives were far outweighed by the negatives. Save yourself the stress and the worry and don't hire Purslane for your event. read more

Working with Purslane, and especially with Michaela and Justin, was a highlight of our wedding planning, and we feel incredibly lucky to have had such excellent partners in producing our event. The staff, especially Michaela and Justin, are responsive, friendly, accommodating, and professional; the space is gorgeous and beautifully maintained and operated; the food and drink were bountiful and delicious, and the service rivaled any of New York's fine restaurants. Best of all, the process of collaborating to make our wedding happen was easy and fun, and Michaela and Justin made us, the nervous engaged couple with a million things to manage, very confident that our day would not just go as planned, but would be a beautiful success. And indeed it was! Of all the people we worked with. Michaela and Justin deserve special mention. They are excellent communicators, responsive to the million questions and people that wedding planning entails. They are proactive collaborators, laying out a clear process and schedule not just for the day, but for the process of working to plan it. They provided useful, detailed documentation at every step of the way, including a very helpful list of recommended vendors. Every meeting with them was fun and friendly, but also productive, punctual and a good use of time. And of course, the food and wine tastings were delicious. Michaela and Justin were so helpful in giving us a sense of how the venue would perform in a situation we wouldn't get to experience until the day itself. They guided us expertly, making shrewd suggestions we might not have considered ("Since you have an open bar, we recommend choosing a heavier vegetarian entree.") My wife and I had a unique vision for our event, and these two not only assured us that it was possible, they worked with the park to accommodate myriad details, even down to the selection of lightbulbs. It's no exaggeration to say that without their help, the event would not have had the specific atmosphere we imagined, nor would it have been the roaring success that it was. All the confidence they inspired along the way paid off on the day, when Michaela, Justin, and their staff were a machine. The service was prompt, helpful, and invisible; the food was great, not losing too much in the translation from tasting to event; the wedding ran perfectly smoothly, with Purslane on top of the schedule, keeping the momentum of the night alive as they moved tables, served each course, operated the bars, and so on with perfect cadence. We are so, so grateful to Purslane for making our wedding a true dream come to life. Our only regret is not responding sooner to their lovely post-wedding thank you note, and for taking so long to write this review! Our wedding day at the Prospect Park Boathouse, catered by Purslane, was truly a magical event (cheesy as that might sound) -- it was everything we could have imagined, and more. Yes, as others have written, things were a little bumpy in the early months post-contract signing, as the coordination staff turned over a few times -- but who wasn't changing jobs during COVID? For us, that was a reflection of the time we're living in, not the Purslane team. Ultimately, Kelsey took the event manager reins and was an absolute GEM. In the months leading up to our wedding, Kelsey was very responsive and kind, provided countless menu permutations in response to our (many!) questions, and partnered incredibly well with our external day-of coordinator to facilitate some out-of-the-box logistics. On the day of the event, everything was a delight! From the check-in staff, to our wayfinders, to the kitchen team, and all the servers, everyone was lovely. They even made a plate for us after we returned from photos at the beginning of cocktail hour to ensure that we ate, and served all of our courses early so we had time to eat before circulating among our guests. Who leaves their own wedding full?! For a guest count of roughly 110 people, we had five passed appetizers and two floating stations during cocktail hour, followed by a seated dinner -- it was the perfect amount of food. Our guests raved about it, with extra accolades for the Asian station during cocktail hour and the filet mignon during dinner. Thank you for making our day so very special! read more

Do you think that you have to settle for less with wedding food? This was what we were told as we began planning our wedding, and it seemed to be a truism. It simply seemed unrealistic to expect wedding food to be of the same quality as something you would choose to eat in a quality restaurant. And this truism seemed to hold up as we tried several very well reviewed and respected caterers...until Purslane. From the minute we sat down to do the tasting with them, we could tell this food was different. It was delicious! I would have happily gone to any restaurant that served the meal we had at our tasting. We decided to go with Purslane for our wedding and were completely happy with the result. Chef Arden and Isabel were warm and professional throughout the whole process, they were helpful and flexible as we planned our final menu, they were even able to accommodate an additional cocktail tasting and complicated deliveries to our venue in the Catskills, and the food at the wedding was absolutely delicious and so fresh and beautifully presented. It truly was of the quality one would expect from a top notch restaurant, and it was just as good when they made it for 130 people as when we had it at the tasting. Several guests independently said to us that in the many weddings they had been to, this was absolutely the best food they had ever had. CANCELLED MORNING OF OUR WEDDING. Purslane is the single most irresponsible vendor that I have ever worked with. My wife and I spent a year planning and replanning our wedding due to COVID-19. We agreed not to see or speak to each other on the morning of the big day. My wife called me at 9am crying that Purslane cancelled on us. They then proceeded to ignore our calls and emails for the next several hours as we scrambled to get more detail on what happened, when we should have spent the time getting ready with our friends and family for the ceremony. The incompetent company forgot to request a license and ruined the morning of our big day. Because our wedding was on a weekend, it was impossible to find a new vendor who could get a license specifically for our reception venue. While our wedding will forever be a wonderful memory, Purslane's complete lack of professionalism cast a permanent shadow on a once in a lifetime event. read more

I have to confess, first off, that I'm not one to write online reviews - and I suppose that's a common opening catch-phrase. However, my wife Stephanie and I's recent experience with Purslane for our June 30th wedding at Fitzcarraldo compels me here. We can't thank Nicolette, Chef Arden, and the entire Purslane staff enough as they were unparalleled, not only in their kindness, generosity, and skill, but the food and service at our wedding was like having family run the show - that is if you're from a family who puts a lot of love and thought into their food, drinks, and good times. Flat out, Purslane nailed it from every angle for us: space, planning, food, drink, dancing, and memories. For our "leaner" wedding of thirty-five people, Stephanie and I had dreamt of a wedding that was centered around our own family, friends, plentiful drinks, unique food, and dancing through the night. Purslane exceeded all of our hopes and the space of Fitzcarraldo not only brought home the atmosphere of a classic Brooklyn night, but the outdoor patio and distinctive interior allowed for the intimacy, mingling, and dancing that we wanted for all of our family and friends. However, before we even got to the big night, I have to recognize the hard work and effort, especially of Chef Arden and the organization, support, and joy of Nicolette, in helping us to put it altogether. Although we had no official wedding planner, Nicolette immediately dove in to help us, listened to us, let us know all of our options, made wonderful recommendations, and - most importantly - communicated with us promptly, warmly, and consistently through the whole process. It sounds "hoaky," I'm sure (pretty hard to avoid in these things), but both Stephanie and I became "fast-friends" with Nicolette due to her caring, attention, and the fact that she works at the local restaurant of Franklin and Kent. Further, to put it bluntly, one of the nicest dinners my then-fiance and I had - prior to our dinner, of course - was the "tasting" dinner that both Nicolette and Arden provided for us. We felt downright spoiled by the variety and diversity of flavors and the sincerity of Nicolette and Arden in helping us to make what we wanted happen for our wedding night. Both my wife and I are food-lovers and Chef Arden's "crew" hit it out of the park. I think the best I can do is let the food speak for itself. A first course of heirloom tomatoes with peaches, feta, and honey in a vinaigrette; a second course of strozzapreti in roasted tomato sauce with taggiasca olives, mozzarella, and basil; three different entrees, one of grilled seas bass in banana leaf with kung pao sauce, achiote, citrus, herb salad, and cashews, a second entree of "lomo al trapo," a Colombian-style beef tenderloin that is wrapped in a towel and cooked directly in the coals (absolutely wonderful) served with salsa criolla, and a third entree of ratatouille a la plancha that consisted of beautifully grilled vegetables. We also had a number of passed appetizers including root-beer braised pork tacos, black seed crusted tuna, and vegetable spring rolls with rice vermicelli, cucumber, avocado, herbs, and nam prik. As many have already said, and I couldn't agree more, this wasn't your standard "get-by" wedding dinner - rather, this was a meal I continue to have conversations about with friends and family that were there. Truly one of the worst dinners served at a wedding ever. The salad course must have been plated hours before serving it - the dressing seemed to be solidified under the greens with some unidentifiable contents in the greens. Looked like small chunks of quiche. For the buffet - sliced sweet potatoes - not properly cooked - like eating a raw carrot. The beef filet was sliced so thin - one looked like you were going to make a sandwich with it. All around a disappointment with no relation whatsoever to the tasting. Lovely staff however - but that is just not enough for the pricey menu. read more

Purslane catered our wedding at 501 Union in Brooklyn. We too were excited that Rucola had a catering business. But Purslane won our business on its own merits. It was the easiest decision among the thousands in our wedding. Their food was leaps and bounds better than any other we tasted, and for similar prices. We did heavy passed hors d'oeuvres and stations and other passed foods -- not a traditional sit down. They helped us through that decision and made us comfortable that everyone would have plenty to eat and leave full, which they did. Chef Arden was extremely thoughtful with the menu. He had suggestions on what would be in season and fresh for our wedding. He had great suggestions on the few substitutions we wanted to do. Amanda was a pleasure to work with. She knew all the details of the wedding, not just the food. She came to all our walk through and rental meetings. Amanda and entire team also worked extremely well with all the other vendors involved. The entire time it was clear that everyone was working as a team to make our wedding happen just as we wanted. The wedding itself went fantastic. "The food was fantastic" was the first thing every guest said to us after the wedding. We have loved Rucola for years and were excited when we realized they had started catering and basically didn't look at any other caterers once we reviewed the menu options and pricing almost a year before our wedding. Amanda was fabulous is guiding us through our rentals, since we had to bring absolutely everything into the space, including all elements to build out a kitchen. She was responsive, thoughtful and very very helpful through things that both affected her side of things, but also things that really weren't her problem that we just needed advice on. We didn't have a planner or day-of coordinator, preferring to be super involved with every element, and Amanda was a great resource on how things "normally" get done. We've gotten a lot of great unsolicited feedback on the food from friends and family and the staff was pleasant, effective and they just simply got the job done in a very raw space full of rambunctious wedding guests. My wife and I used Purslane for our wedding at the Green Building in Brooklyn. We were thrilled that our favorite restaurant (Rucola) had a catering business and quickly signed up after trying the food. Our two contacts, Amanda and Julian were great to work with and really helped us create the wedding we wanted, while cutting costs where we could. On the day of the wedding, the service was great and the team was very flexible and helpful as the night went on. Our guests consistently said that it was the best wedding food they've ever had. Despite the mass quantities, the quality was just as good as the tasting we had initially. The chicken was a little dry, but everything else was perfect. Purslane exceeded expectations in every way. From our initial interactions with Amanda, through our more rigorous coordination with Air, we were so impressed. Purslane was incredibly easy to work with, flexible, and understood our vision. Working with a caterer who could entirely conform their services to your event particulars and aesthetic was invaluable and added to the personal touches we wanted to bring to our wedding. Ari was amazing. Aside from being a lovely person, she was so organized and always calm. She was an asset during the venue walkthrough, with helpful suggestions and meticulous note taking. We loved chatting with her during our (super fun) tasting at their Greenpoint restaurant and couldn't get over the tight ship she ran on our wedding day. She was also an amazing help at the decor rental meeting -- she patiently advised and set up samples of table settings so I could picture how things would look. Arden, the chef, is such a talent -- creative and charming, his work is like art on a plate. We felt so lucky to have been able to discuss our hopes for the menu on the phone and then meet him at the tasting. He explained each dish and was very collaborative (though we mostly marveled at the meal and asked fan-girl (/guy) questions about his career). The day of our wedding, the Purslane team was exceptional. They had a very tight window to work within, in terms of getting everything in and out of our venue, and did it will seeming ease. The waitstaff were so kind, gracious, polished, and professional -- without being pretentious. They made sure we ate and everyone felt so well attended to. The place settings were absolutely beautiful, minimalist and elegant. To us, food was such an important component of our celebration and we wanted something special and unique. Purslane transcended anything we could have imagined with the quality of their food and exceptional service. I used Purslane to cater my wedding over the summer. My wife and I had a specific idea - rustic food served family style - and I felt that they would be a good fit (they own Rucola which serves similar food). We did not want to have normal wedding food (ie: choice of salad or soup followed by choice of chicken, salmon and beef). Instead, we wanted each course to feel like a great dinner party thrown in an intimate setting. This was a big event: 150 people for a cocktail reception followed by a sit down dinner. The space was totally raw with no kitchen equipment. The space had a large freight elevator, and we wanted to have a bar set up in the elevator as guests rode up. They pulled the elevator bar off perfectly. They were organized throughout the process, and helped keep our wedding within budget. The actual reception and dinner went off really smoothly: Each course came out together, everything looked and tasted great, and the service was friendly and very efficient. More than anything else, they really listened to what we wanted - beyond just being good food, the dinner felt like the intimate party we were hoping for. I still receive letters and emails from guests saying how much they specifically enjoyed the food and service, including several friends who are chefs in New York. read more

Purslane catered my wedding at the Green Building. Before I came across them at the Wedding Crashers event only 5 months before my wedding, I was actually planning on having drop-off buffet styled catering. I definitely did a 180 when I found Purslane. I simply did not want to worry about the food, whether it would be hot enough, fresh enough, etc. Purslane not only worked within my budget but offered solid advice. At the time when I found Purslane, I had already hired an outside waitressing/bartending company and Purslane was so accommodating to work with them, which I was grateful for. We chose 6 different passed canapes (and on my wedding day- I was almost able to try them all! smoked salmon on a potato latke was perhaps my favorite)but everything was delicious. We also had a cheese/antipasta display and Purslane set it up beautifully. For dinner we chose a chicken, steak and fish option with a first course of salad market greens. I only wish I ordered the steak too (although it probably wouldn't be very ladylike for a bride to eat 2 entrees) my husband ordered the chicken which he said was very juicy and I ordered the fish which was moist and tasty, but I heard the steak was incredible. On your wedding day you're being pulled in every direction and you definitely don't get to eat much but I made it a point to eat the appetizers and a little bit of my dinner. Only regret was I didn't try the steak. Overall, people raved about the food. Amanda was wonderful, we tweaked the canapes a few times and she was so sweet about everything. She made sure we rented or supplied serving pieces, her staff cut the cake and plated it. We had several phone conferences and she personally attended our nearly 2 hour final walk-through with our DOC and coordinator from TGB going over all the details, timeline, etc. I had my tasting at Rucola and loved everything. If in the future I were to cater another event, I would definitely reach out to Purslane- in the meantime I'll be frequenting their restaurant and hopefully get to try that steak at some point. :) Overall a fantastic experience! read more
