My plane had just landed an hour or so before I found myself at Purple Haze. I was in need of a pack of cigarettes but the guy immediately cut me off to share that they only have American Spirits- fine, no worries , I can think of several other things I actually need besides cigarettes. After aimlessly dragging my suitcase around downtown it was nice to just stop somewhere and catch my breath for a moment, and the store actually had inventory I was familiar with, so I chose three or four items (in under 3 minutes -- which is literally a record for me I'm sure) but the other entire time I'm there the guy helping me has this attitude like he just wants me gone as fast as possible. Maybe the suitcase gave him a bad taste in his mouth. I'm from Austin, TX and I myself have grown to loathe tourists and visitors. But I'm never outright curt with someone simply because they're not a local. Dare I say it, SPECIFICALLY when they're not a local. Even worse that his flippant attitude and subtle condescension meant he never quite looked me in the eye but through me... even after the subpar customer service I received I still happily walked up to the counter with an intention of using Apple Pay. Very quickly he said-- well I need your ID. My car was broken into a my purse stole two days before my flight. He wouldn't accept a photo of my ID, even with the temporary that Texas provided when I filed for the lost license online. Now, it's worth mentioning that I'm not asking anyone to break the law for me, and that's not why I'm upset. I completely understand that if that's the law, then that's the law. After stopping here i went to LoDo wellness center for some wax and saw they were selling the same 14mm banger for $15. Purple Haze charged $32+ after tax. Literally the exact same product. A good smoke shop is hard to find. I moved to Denver in December of 2022 and finding a good one was on a list of priorities. I thought I'd found one, but have changed my mind after todays experience. i purchased a malfunctioning device and took time to return to the store after work. I do not drive, so I ubered over believing that the nice gentlemen I met the other evening would continue to be so. I showed the clerk my device. He brings up a policy concerning 24 hours after a purchase has been made. He didn't point to signage about this policy nor was I aware or informed that it existed during checkout and what's worse? He remembered the day I came in and still would not help me. He remembered me. Gave me a discount that meant nothing.Why am I paying for a device that was shit in the store? why am I paying for not having the proper resources that would have gotten me in there within 24 hours. She hooked me up with one that fit my vape, and then right before i checked out, i asked for a bottle of 420 cleaner and then she pointed me in the direction of a product that i now think works better than my original choice. I give the staff, especially Ariel, 5 stars. I bought a nicotine vape pen that I had to return 2x because of problems I had with it. Ariel was exceptionally understanding and helpful. She recommended a different model that was $10+ more but she waved that because of the difficulties I had with the 1st one. I give the store itself 3 stars. I don't buy much from brick & mortar stores these days so maybe this is common practice everywhere. They don't seem to have demo models of what you want to purchase so the only way to see an item is to actually buy it and then they show you how to operate it etc. If I had been able to check out the 1st vape pen I got I never would've gotten it in the 1st place and they will not give refunds only store credit. I really don't understand this "gotcha" practice but must be store policy or something because, given my experience with the employees especially Ariel, I think if they had the choice they would do things differently. If it weren't for Ariel I would probably never go back but because of how respectfully she treated me I will now be a repeat customer. Thanks Ariel! read more
