I have been searching high, low, instagram, and word of mouth for someone to do my hair. I'm natural and there are a few things that are on my list for a braiding stylist: 1. How will you protect my edges? 2. How will you react when I tell you that they are too tight? 3. Do I have to buy my own hair? 4. Do you offer wash services? First, the way she answered the phone was so bright and cheerful. She answered all of my questions and luckily her afternoon appt canceled so I was in same day at 1 for senegalese twists. As I was walking through the door, her client before me was leaving. Her cheerful dispositipn on the phone is even better in person. Her spirit is just wonderful. She gave me a wash, blow dry (not on high heat!), trim, and after all of that a scalp massage. When I tell you I could have fallen asleep.... Her conversation was on point. Just enough convo but not too much. I let her work on my head and I watched tv. Let me touch on her skills. AMAZING!!! I said before that I like my edges. She expressed that she doesnt braid tight becaise she knows how it feels. All braiding stylists say that but Purity is the truth. She braids tight enough that they are secure but not so tight that there is tension everywhere, your head is inflamed, you need to pop all of the pills when you get home, and youre sleeping on your forehead for 2 weeks until they loosen. There was none of that. If one happened to cross that threshold she immediately took steps to make it better. Additionally, she checked in periodically to make sure I was all right. My braids are gorgeous! I love them so much! They are a little long for me but that's my fault, I didnt express the length I wanted. I was so excited and caught up in the scalp massage and conversation that I forgot to mention. This is definitely not her fault and I dont hold it against her. I need to give my hair a break from all of the manipulation so I am definitely going to visit Purity again and tell everyone I know. PS...she provided that hair. read more

I highly recommend Purity! Not only does she provide excellent service, but she is also so sweet and kind. She is the type of stylist who only books one person at a time and is very good at estimating the time it will take to braid/twist. Purity recently did my hair in Senegalese twists for a wedding. I have not had braids since undergrad (many yrs ago). However, I had a friend whose hair always looked so nice and natural looking...and never knew she had braids until she told me. This friend would sing the praises of her stylist, Purity, all the time and tell me how her natural hair had become so long and healthy since she started going to her yrs ago. She also talked about how nice and professional she was. So, last yr I went to have some tree braids done before heading on vacation because I heard this style was perfect for getting in the water and the maintenance was next to nothing - my kind of hair care. Can I tell you that Purity was ALL that my friend said and more? First of all, she has to be one of the nicest persons I've ever met. Next, her work is professional, fair in price, fast...& she supplies the hair (and it's really great quality). Finally, up until I took the braids out, I was still getting compliments from strangers about how nice my hair looked and giving out Purity's info for referrals. Needless to say, I've been going bk to her ever since and she never disappoints. Aside from tree braids, she can do so many other braiding styles and she keeps up on hair trends. It's all true!! Purity is the best!!! From her gentle technique (I didn't need Motrin when I left because my hair was braided too tight) to hee easy going and friendly demeanor (she offered me snacks and ginger ale several times), I am so glad I gave Purity a chance. Some background: I haven't had braids in years but I wanted kinky twists for an upcoming cruise. I live in Baltimore County near Randallstown and I was determined to find a braider who appreciated 3 main things: 1. My edges: you know what I mean. Once they are gone, you don't get them back. 2. My business: I wanted to feel appreciated and not like just the next girl in the chair 3. My time: I think it is so unprofessional when braiders carry on endless conversations with their others in a language you can't understand or stop to check their phones. After "interviewing" several in my area and being generally unimpressed, I decided to expand my search area. I searched near my job in Laurel and "over east" and lucked up with finding Purity. Using a complex algorithm where I divide the number of positive reviews by the number of reviews total multiplied by a 10 mile search radius...I'm just kidding--I took a chance on the lady, y'all. I'm a social media baby so when I saw Purity didn't have anything on Facebook, Twitter or IG, I almost went to the next braider on the list. I honestly don't know why I gave her a chance but I went to meet with her about 3 weeks prior to when I wanted my hair done and she was so welcoming. She patiently answered all my questions and put me at ease. I saw one of her clients leaving and her goddess braids were LIT!!! Plus she was the only braider so it didn't feel like I would be "warehoused" through. She even talked me through how she sourced her hair (I'm a stickler for details). I booked right then. Day of the appointment, I called to say I was running 10 minutes late but she didn't answer. I felt a tinge of panic like I was being stood up. But I wasn't. I called back and she answered so all good there. As mentioned in previous reviews, parking is best done on a side street but at 11am, I had no problem finding parking and even when I left, there was still ample off street parking. Purity's shop was clean and well kept. She was ready for me right away and showed me the hair she had ordered for me. I wanted a little bit of red hair and she had one that fit the bill. The other was a bit too bold for me but maybe next time. I really appreciated how she told me I would look nicer with a reddish tone hair, rather than blonde. Sometimes getting hair stylists to express an opinion is like pulling teeth. I like a collaborative experience and I received that with Purity. She could tell my hair was clean so she began parting. This is the 5 star part of the review: she did not snatch, pull or tug on my natural hair as she braided!!! Her method is amazing!! She asked me if it hurt and I have a high pain tolerance but I swear, even the most tender of heads would be comfortable in her chair. She made small parts, braided quickly and close to me so my hair never felt yanked away from my scalp. Purity made some small talk but mainly deferred to me. As I had worked overnight before coming to her, I told her I may fall asleep and she just let me. It was quiet other than the tv, which I liked. I talked when I felt like it and she was nice about that. Sometimes people doing your hair can be "too much". So I'm in and out of consciousness for 4 hours. Her phone rang several times but she NEVER once answered it. I had her undivided attention, God, how rare is that?? Around 3pm, her husband brought her kids in. Now, this is why I gave her 4 and not 5 stars. Her daughter was super nice and her young son, was a young boy! Boundless energy and noise. My son was just like him when he was younger but some people may have gotten annoyed. Purity stopped a few times to try to quiet him and her daughter helped, however there was no stopping little man. The little cutie tired himself out after 2.5 hours. Honestly, I was too tired to care. For those that aren't little kid fans, just make your appointment early and you will be done before her kids out of school. I will say her daughter was a well behaved conversationalist. Moving on... So when Purity finished my braids, she meticulously snipped each and every stray hair from my braids. She curled my ends with the rods and hot water and 6 hrs later, I was paying her and saying my goodbyes. I haven't been happy with my hair in some time but I left HAPPY. My husband called me to see if I was ok and was surprised to hear I was already done. Knowing how critical I can be, he asked if I was really satisfied and I unabashedly said yes. read more

Purity called me back promptly and we discussed the styles I wanted she gave me her honest opinion about the types of braids I was considering and the cost associated with each. We scheduled an appointment for the coming Sunday. Purity was already at the shop and ready to get started at the time we scheduled for and I really appreciated that!!!! I decided to get tiny senagalese twists that hang to my mid back. She is so gentle with braiding NO PAIN AT ALL!!! and they are tight and very comfortable. She used the right amount of hair per twists, so I ended up with a full BUT NOT HEAVY head of beautiful long, small twists. Purity is very kind, caring and an overall great person!!!!!! We had great conversation the whole time and I appreciated the fact that she respected me as her client and took the time to get to know me. There was no price gauging, or "trickery" involved (Get you halfway braided than tell you you must pay or try to get you to pay a higher price!) Ms Purity's is the only braiding place I've yet been to where she will undo the previous braids, wash/condition/treat, and then style or rebraid my hair. Purity is a great braider with a beautiful personality to match. However to be completely honest, if you are looking for West African type braiding style (in regards to ghana weaving, parting, etc), I do not recommend her. She does several styles including tree braids and twists. She is slightly expensive, but she provides the hair. If I am to go back, I will go for tree-braiding most likely. I typically do not get my hair done by anyone because it hurts and being a hair stylist myself, I can do my own hair. However, I gave Purity a try mostly because her reputation precedes her. I wanted a sew in with an ombre finish for a wedding. She was professional, very time conscious (she was done in an hour and a half) and the hair looked perfect. The hair extensions looked natural. Her store is clean. I did not have to offer any input as I usually do when I go to other shops. She knew where to source the best hair to get the job done.
