I love getting my hair done there and Oshun is a really nice person. They also let me watch TV.

As soon as I stepped FOOT into this salon I knew my life would change, but I didn't expect for it to change this much. About a year ago, I began my loc journey with Oshun. She was the first person to ask me, "May I touch your hair?" While to many that's minuscule, I soon felt an overflow of comfort that I hadn't before. My consultation was amazing, and filled with information to get me on the right track. For the first few months I went to Oshun and loved every second of it. Soon after, I began to go to Noah, another AMAZING stylist at the salon. She has such a nurturing spirit that flourishes at the opportunity of creativity. I went to see Koko at the The River Oshun salon on Saturday, November 24, 2018. It was my 40th Chanel-themed birthday party that night and I wanted to be sure I looked right. I had wanted a natural updo and I had several pictures of what I might get. I had a discussion with Koko about what style might fit me better and we selected one. To my dismay, Koko ended up doing a different style. I asked her to take it down and redo it but instead she added more hair which is not what I wanted. At this point, Koko started to develop an attitude. When I asked her to redo it once more, she blew up. Koko initially told me that I had to wait for her to finish her other clients first. Then, she started yelling at me and told me that I had to pay her for what she did thus far and got on the phone with the owner, Oshun to discuss further. She even threatened that she would call the police if I did not pay her right away. All the while, Koko was on the phone with Oshun and there were 2 other clients in the shop. She also lied to Oshun and said that I had "threatened" her on Instagram the night before by saying "I will be at your door at 6:55am". I only said that because my appointment was at 7:00am and I had plenty to do in preparation for the party. I was pretty much quiet during Koko's ranting but I told her that she was acting extremely rude and disrespectful and I also told her that I had all intentions of paying her for her services. I basically paid Koko and left without getting my hair redone. I told her that I would pray for her. It is quite obvious that Koko has issues and I would think that Oshun should have calmed her down or at least asked to speak to me during or after this interaction. NEVER AGAIN!!! read more

She has absolutely transformed my anxiety about my natural hair into a special relationship that has caused me to fall in love with the texture and diversity of styling it. The craftsmanship of Oshun's work is absolutely stunning! I am in awe of how beautiful and perfect it looks. The shop is located in Downtown Baltimore so free street parking isn't an option unless you are willing to walk a few blocks (and even then it's limited). I had an appt for 10:30am for a Chunky Halo Braid. Upon arriving I was informed that the stylist was running a bit late-- but I loved that she communicated that to me. She even offered me a complimentary steam for my wait! When I went back to get my hair washed, I received the best scrub of my life-- so soothing and invigorating. Oshun was very nice, professional, and she continuously checked on me to make sure the style was pain free. Though the appointment ended up lasting about 3 hours (when I booked, it said 1.5 hours), I left feeling like a queen with a beautiful crown! I will DEFINITELY return. The best salon experience I've ever had and I've had a lot. Everyone was so down to earth and friendly. Appropriate and inclusive conversation throughout the salon. That's before we even before we get to the care taken with my hair and how bomb my chunky flat twist were. I can't remember the assistants name. But when I tell you she washed my hair... she WASHED my hair. She even asked for any places that I felt needed extra attention. I had none because she cared for my entire mane and scalp. My chunky twist halo was so bomb that everyone at work was asking why I took it out. I received COMPLIMENTS on top of COMPLIMENTS. Listen, I never really feel comfortable going to new stylists even if they were recommended but this was definitely a great move. My intent was to get loc maintenance and flexi rod curls but I ended up short on time. Oshun was extremely understanding and accommodating. She ended up suggesting I just get two strand twists and I have never had anyone do my hair so quickly AND it was so neat. My hair was washed, palm rolled and two strand twisted in an hour max. Besides the excellent service, the atmosphere is great, she plays music as she works, my type of music not "radio hits," I can't wait to go back! read more

I love Oshun! I have been going to her for a year now and I have found my home hairstylist finally! She is great with natural hair and i mean 4 type hair! She is gentle and very patient with my questions and concerns. My hair as transformed, its become thicker and healthier. She really knows her stuff! Unprofessional owner/stylist and business practices. Prior to booking I read the website and stylist's policies throughly. During the appointment my hair was washed and as soon as I got into the chair the stylist refused to do the style booked since my hair didn't meet her standards which was not conveyed prior to booking. I left very disappointed with blow dried hair and no style. After leaving I had a conversation with the stylist and she was unwilling to compromise after explaining the issue or refund my deposit. In addition the stylist then updated her website to reflect the information that the website lacked prior to appointment. How coincidental! read more

This was my first visit and I was very pleased with hairstyle! In fact, my hair was a show stopper! Oshun was knowledgeable and even gave me hair care and maintenance instructions. The River Oshun Again, my apologies that you didn't have a great experience with my services. I understand how frustrating it can be getting a hairstyle and not being 100% in love with it. I pride myself in my customer service and you were happy with everything before you left. I asked you multiple times if you were fine and you responded yes each time. I also told you that you could come in for me to rectify the problem AS SOON as you informed me that you were unhappy. Negating the fact that you said you would go home and "fix" what was wrong, I was ready to still help. Your MAIN CONCERN was that the synthetic hair you purchased looked like a rug. I showed you with 2 mirrors that if I "thinned" out the back to look more natural your braided hair would show. You agreed. We moved on to the next issue of it being too thick and that's when I stopped adding hair, then that evening you complained about me missing ONE spot that measured less than an inch. It seems like you weren't happy with the hair and not my services because you raved and raved about the salon and my work (which ABSOLUTELY shows crochet styles). I am not the stylist who did the hair in the picture you brought me, so there is no way your hair would be identical to that. I tried to manage your expectations by explaining that several times during your appointment and I provided a service that produced a style very similar to the picture you had. The style that I had provided gave instructions on how much hair was used for that style, however, you used more than required which added to the thickness/rug look of the hair. Also, when I asked you do you want to look at the picture again so you can analyze the shape, you believed you did not need to. I was not looking for 100% accuracy. As a hair tech, when a customer says she will go home and fix it. You should have had a problem with that and ensured that customer would have walked out at least 90% pleased. I was at 85%. UNTIL, I looked through my hair and seen hair was missing from the front hair line. Hair 101, the front hairline is the primary aesthetic of the style, and even though it was less than an inch, would adding two more strands would have made the hair that much thicker. REALLY. NOW HERE IS MY PROBLEM. The base/ foundation that holds the crochet hair in place started unraveling in sections. How does that happen?!!! After evaluating, the perimeter of my hair is not as strong as the rest. That part of the hair should have had thicker braids or hair added to give a stronger foundation. ALSO, because you did not knot the added hair, you did some kind of weaving made it easier for the hair to slide out. Let's be clear about what I raved about: The fact that you cared about hair health and growth. Anyone going home to fix their hair is not raving about your work. This hairstyle is 6 days old, and I direct message you at least 3 or more times about the issues I was having. Not one time did you say, I will give you another hairstyle or a refund.
