Why did I wait so long to write this review! I needed my hair done and called K Stewart Salon to try them out. I was immediately greeted when I came in. The salon is beautiful inside, nicely decorated with high ceilings. Anyway let's get to the stuff that really matters..service and of course hair. My stylist for the day, Char, greeted me with a warm smile. She asked if I had any concerns and what I would be getting. We proceeded to the sink where she washed and conditioned my hair. She the blew me out and straightened my natural hair. It looked great and I was impressed with the level of professionalism. The whole process took under two hours. I noticed each stylist was very dedicated to her/his client. I receieved so many compliments. The woman next to me was getting a sewn in that looked really nice. I found out about this salon because my really good friend's partner used to work here. I also know several people who have actually gotten there hair done at this location and had really great things to say about the owner (who is also a stylist) and the stylist at this location. I was in desperate need of having my hair done on yesterday and this was the only location I could think of. When I called, the owner's assistant Jameya was able to get me an appointment for 11:30 am that morning. I called at around 10 am so that was perfect. When I arrived I was greeted and taken back to the shampoo area. There was already one person being serviced and then I was next. The shampoo was amazing and the products that were used smelled great. The assistant prepped my hair and I waited about 15 mins for the Owner Keiana to come in and start my hair. I explained to her my concerns with my hair and provided me with great options on how to treat and maintain my hair. She was extremely nice and took her time on my hair, but was also quick since I had to get back to work. I am so happy that I made the decision to come to this salon. I have had a hard time trying to find a good stylist that works with my schedule. I would definitely recommend this salon and the owner to anyone looking to have beautiful healthy hair. I love how she trimmed and styled my hair and can't wait to go back. I actually forgot to tip because I got a call about my son at the very moment that I was paying with my card. It was soft, smooth, fresh, and more importantly CLEAN. This is a must TRY service and has now been added into my quarterly skin care routine. I'm surprised more people aren't talking about this place. Went in to K. Stewart earlier today. Made an appointment that morning and they had me come in a couple hours later. The receptionist was helpful, courteous, and warm on the phone and in person. When you walk in the decor is beautiful: it's fresh, modern, and clean. I walked in and was greeted by Char my stylist. I was immediately led to the back and she asked me what I wanted to do with my hair. I expressed to her that I had some significant damage in the back, but didn't want to chop off all my hair. I showed her a picture of how I usually wear my hair and she didn't deviate. Not only is she a great stylist, but she's a very sweet woman. Sometimes when you go into a salon with damaged hair, you get a lot of judgement, I never felt that. The salon uses Moroccan Oil products, which if you haven't tried, you should. So on Wednesday I scheduled an hair appointment with this stylist (IG: hairartist_danni) who works at K. Stewart The Salon (http://www.kstewartthesalon.com/contact.html) for yesterday at 10:00AM So I get there at 9:50 and knock at the door. After knocking and receiving no answer I call her phone only to have it ring twice and go to voicemail. I decide to wait til about 10:10 before I leave (I figure because of the holiday, she may be running behind). After waiting 10 minutes, making 3 addtional phone calls and sending another text, I left. 10 minutes after I leave the stylist Danni calls me and tells me she did not hear her phone and apologizes. Since I am only 10 minutes away and I drove about 45 minutes to get my hair done, I decide to go back. When I get there I'm greeted by a receptionist/assistant who takes me to the back and preps me to wash my hair. I question her assistant about how that will affect my hair color and she tells me that she wont use conditioner, she is just doing a prepoo. She does that and sits me under the dryer. Long story short, at 11, I ask the assistant where is the hair stylist and she tells me she is on her way. So I tell her I'm leaving and by the time I come from grabbing my coat from the back she tells me the stylist is on the phone and wants to speak to me. I'm thinking the stylist Danni is about to tell me how far she is and instead the conversation goes like this: Her: Is there a problem? Me: Ummmm yea my appointment was at 10 and it's 11 and you're still not here Her: Well my assistant is there to prep you Me: My appointment was at 10 and it's 11... Her: Well I had you come in early to prep Me: You should have let me know this when I made the appointment. I handed the phone back to the girl because she had the nerve to have an attitude and I was about to curse her out. What kind of prepping needs to be done for a PERMANENT hair color service? The only prepping needed is to comb my hair out for even color distribution (which I already did before I got there). Very displeased by the lack professionalism and the disrespectfulness I received from the stylist Danni. Would never recommend this place to anyone. read more

I have had nothing but pleasant experiences every time I've visited K Stewart. First of all, I absolutely love the location in Mount Vernon. Second, I love the decor inside of the salon. I have not had my hair done by the owner, but I have had my hair styled by Charda (before she relocated to New York) and Chardonae (a fairly new stylist at this salon). Charda gave me beautiful color and highlights and actually styled my hair in the curls that are in my profile picture! My hair is natural and dry, but she always made my hair look and feel soft and shiny. I used to go to Chardonae regularly a few years back when she worked at the Bubbles in Columbia. I visited her recently at K Stewart and she did an excellent job on my keratin treatment. They used Coppola Keratin Complex, which is my favorite brand. My hair is so thick and full and Chardonae is efficient, but not slow! I will say I notice many of the clients that come here get full weaves sewn in. In all of my visits, I have my real hair styled and it only takes about 2 hours. I am so grateful that I have not had to spend hourrrsssss and entire days in the salon because of schedules being overbooked. Since Charda and Chardonae were both efficient, professional, and quick, I am going to assume that the owner is pretty selective in the stylists she hires at her salon. I would definitely recommend this salon and I don't mind driving all the way to Baltimore from PG County to get my hair styled here. read more

I have been an immensely happy and loyal customer to Keiana Stewart, the owner of K. Stewart the Salon since 2007. In 2007, I got a horrible haircut at About Faces Salon. I walked into the salon that Keiana worked in at that time, and she took me as a walk in (I've been hooked since then). She fixed my cut and made me feel like a million bucks; I recieved so many compliments on that cut. After about a year of getting my own hair styled, I got my first full head weave from Keiana. Keiana's weaves are expertly installed and the cut and style are always fantastic. This is not a joke, but everywhere I go, I'm told what beautiful healthy hair I have. When I tell them it's a weave they are in disbelief (this includes other stylists). Because of her unparalleled abilities, I've followed Keiana to two other salons and now, to her own salon, which is much deserved. It goes without saying that after almost seven years, I now consider Keiana a friend. However, I watch Keiana interact with all her clients, and whether you've been coming to her for seven visits or seven years, everyone gets the same treatment. Keiana is a consummate professional, and has really perfected her craft -- yet, year after year, she still manages to get better. And, because of this, I now travel from DC to Baltimore every other Saturday to get my hair done. I sought Keiana's services for microlink hair extensions. This was my first time getting extensions and I wanted them for a special occasion. I didn't know what to expect as I am Korean with straight hair, but I made an appointment for a quick consultation and had the impression that Keiana knew what she was doing and for a good price. On June 29, I had my appointment, which was definitely an experience. They were very busy as there was a big promotion going on, which factored in a lot of waiting time between getting my hair shampooed and the actual extensions. I was there for about 5 hours, which was kind of unfortunate, but bearable only because the women, stylists and customers alike were so very fun and kind. Over the past two weeks since then, I've gotten many complements from family, friends, and co-workers. Overall, I'm very happy with my hair. One weft needs to be adjusted, as it's slid down quite a bit - probably because the texture of my hair. The receptionist Breonia that I spoke with was so helpful scheduling me in, picking out my services, and giving me a full run down of everything that I need to do and that will be done. Second, the location is PERFECT! Easily accessible and so quick to find. Just be aware of traffic into downtown, I ended up running 10 min late. Once I get there, I'm greeted right at the front by the same receptionist as well as my stylist Jaz, who BTW was blessed with hands of a GODDESS. If you want your hair fired and dyed, this is the best place to go. They will have your hair flowing in the air. If you need weave they have it too. However, if you love you hair or have natural hair DON"T GO HERE. After three appointments my hair began to fall out, due to the stylist not properly prepping my hair to be strengthen. It was my own fault for not noticing there was not enough product being put into my hair. My hair was breaking off to the roots, I basically had a big hair balls. I even gave the stylist tips, because my hair was slayed after and it was a nice atmosphere. So, now my hair is back to being healthy, thanks to a real hair care stylist. For any stylist, who feels is right to tell a customer they know how to take care of natural hair and they don't. Please don't, your only hurting yourself at the end of the day. read more

I had a wonderful experience at K. Stewart Salon. The décor of this place is beautiful. During my visit, the receptionist was very friendly and accommodating. His name has escaped me, but the gentleman that washed my hair was GREAT - he was exceptionally personable and professional. Particularly, I appreciated his mindfulness and level of respect he showed my mom; music came on that he didn't think was appropriate for her listening and changed to something he felt would be more pleasing. I visited this salon for the first time today and I felt like absolute crap when I left. My stylist actively disliked styling my thin hair (thanks genetics!) and I felt so uncomfortable. Now, I admit that my hair is shedding but her tone throughout my service was kind of judgmental and her whole vibe was just unwelcoming for me. It really seemed like she just didn't like me. I usually talk and laugh with my stylists but there was literally no convos and it felt icy. Then there was something weird that really struck me. When I asked her for advice on how to care for my hair, she said something along the lines of "find a regular stylist", implying that she wouldn't be styling me going forward. Umm, okay I was hoping you would be my regular stylist since I just moved to this town.The customer service was also lacking in small ways too. When I was getting shampooed, water kept running into my face and I had to ask for a towel. This is not a big deal, but the stylists that I used to go to would usually immediately get me a towel without me having to ask. When I went under the dryer, the stylist didn't even adjust the height of the hood and literally just plopped it on my head. I'm a tall girl and it should've been a little obvious that this wasn't working. Finally, I think I was overcharged. I was charged $115 and I only got a protein treatment and flexirods. According to their website, I think I should've been charged around $85. I was so over everything that I didn't even bother to question this. This was the worst experience I've ever had at a salon. So bad that I actually contemplated running out of the salon with wet hair. Never again. read more

The salon is breathtaking from its Brazilian cherry hardwood floors to the individual chandeliers over the stylist's stations will have you oohing and ahhing! K. She always has my hair looking like I just stepped onto a red carpet event and she continues to maintain the health of my hair. To see the owner's growth from being a successful stylist to a hair extension company and salon owner is a blessing from God! The staff is extremely pleasant from the receptionist to the shampoo assistant. They recently added an additional team member to their family named Charda. Although she has not done my hair, I saw a hair demonstration she did and she did a really great job! I look forward to having her do my hair one day. I will post my review about her skills when I get in her chair. I personally feel the prices are reasonable compared to other salons of their caliber. The atmosphere of the salon is fun and relaxing and it is conveniently located near some really great eateries in the Mt. Vernon District. They do retail professional products, hair accessories and they also carry their hair extension line and flat irons in the boutique.
